  1. We have a newly-adopted puppy (5 months old, Border Collie X Kelpie; lovely, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, in great healthy condition etc.) & I bought a Seresto Tick and Flea Collar (for ~$50 from memory, from local pet store @ their recommendation).Whilst our property has no fleas, the adjacent bushland etc. certainly has ticks – so far puppy seems fine, no evidence of any fleas nor ticks during regular checks; though she does occasionally scratch herself a little around the neck.On our previous dog I used to use frontline (monthly I think?), then later changed to Preventic collars (then similar Killtix collars), as well as some periods of Nexguard monthly chews, from memory...Which basically worked OK.1st time using Seresto collar – do they seem quite good, to all who use them?
  2. It sounds like you include Spud in a very high amount of activities and exercise/attend to him more than the average owner(s) which is just fantastic. Whilst I try similarly, I simply cannot achieve as regular high levels of attention and activity for our dog as I'd like - though she is well loved, well cared for and quite lucky partaking on many varied adventures quite often. When we first got her as a 10-week-old pup, however, in hindsight I really wish I had also gotten 1 of her brothers or sisters at the same time, and brought both of them up, trained both of them etc. together, primarily for companionship & exercise whilst no people are home (full time work, away without dog etc.) If you have the resources, the dogs are young and get on well, I suggest seriously considering adding the 2nd dog to the family.
  3. On real hot days I'll ensure there are at least 3 water bowls in a couple of shady areas in the yard, and a low-profile fishtub type tub (kinda like that picture of the blue tub a few posts above but shallower & without handles) about 1/3 full, all with cool fresh water for the dog. She'll sometimes like to splash her paws in the tub as well as drink from it. I'll also put a few ice cube trays full of ice cubes into a couple of the drinking bowls just prior to going out. I'll also ensure the birdbath is freshly-filled, and place a few small plastic takeaway-type containers around the garden freshly filled for birds and lizards.

  5. Yea, Bronte gets tinned sardines and tuna (usually the cheapest brand) several times most months, and she loves them. Also occasionally tinned mackerel and fresh/cooked fish giblets/pickings when we cook fish meals for ourselves. I have also heard that raw whole fish/fish heads can be quite good for dogs every now and then, but I fear the finer/tiny/bones or sharp/shattering bone structures in some of them would pose too great a risk and/or challenge for me to pick through and filter out etc. so this is very rare for our dog.
  6. There is some argument for shopping at your local Vet where possible, i.e. if they constantly treat /take care of you well, do the right thing by you and your pets etc. then supporting thier business with some of your shopping can be satisfying. That said, "money talks" of course, and it's the bottom line for most of us. I certainly shop online for quite a lot of things, at least to compare and research before choosing ultimately where to buy.
