  1. I use a food processer

2 kg chicken/ lamb blend put in bucket/ bowl

    1kg veg

    2-4 eggs with shells

1 cup brown rice well cooked

1 cup oats cooked ( sometimes)

    100 mils flax seed oil

a little salt or a tablespoon of vegimite

    blend till some what smooth

mix all together and freeze or if only making a little put in fridge I add a muti vitamin suppliment

I have been replacing half meat with chicken frame ( my dog cant have whole bone's its a long story )but cut them up small blend till smooth and pulse a little at a time or your processer will blow up and if using frames only make a little at a time as it goes off

  2. My dog has what has been descried as "POSSESSIVE AGGRESSION" (the breeder called it 'Guard Instinct' ) apparently it is quite common in her breed CKC with 50% showing signs of this behaviour by 7 months

A few things could have caused this problem in the first place. Firstly, maybe the temperaments of the dogs being used by your breeder are not sound. Secondly if your breeder fed all the puppy's from the same bowl then it looks like your pup may not have been one of the stronger ones, and would have been running around the bowl to try and get in to feed, this can sometimes put an early association into a pup of resource guarding once it goes to a new home. Also what you have done since getting the pup home is important.

Can we have more info on what you have done on a day to day basis with your pup on how you feed and use toys with your pup. Also how your children have interacted with the pup.

In Her it manifest with bones and raw hide but can sometime be with other food she finds (example last night it was a piece of cheese another time it was a piece of bread) and can also be toys but this is not as common

This does look like a classic case of fear of loss in resources in your pups mind from this quote.

We are having a Dog Behaviourist come but we could not get an appointment for a week

I am glad you are doing this, however if you get some information that goes like this: "No toys till your pup has learned to behave". "Make it wait for its meal and if not eaten within 15 mins take it away". Or "Do not pat your puppy" and worst of all throw something or use a water spray when the pup displays bad behaviour. Can I suggest you stay well away from doing any of the above. Come back to the forum and there is a excellent exercise called FLOODING I can give you, which will help you a lot. But we need more info on your day to day life with your pup. This is needed so the best possible advice can be given.

Just would like some idea's on what I can do to manage this problem while I’m waiting for her to been seen by an expert

I wholeheartedly agree that your children's safety comes first and the best idea would be for them not to interact with your pup until you get professional advice.

Keep us posted on how your lesson goes

    wishing you every success.

thanks for the advice we have removed any bones and raw hide from the house ( we orinanally tryed giving her lots of bones but this caused a major melt down she stood over them growlling and barking then wimpering and shaking even when no one was in the house "we had a web cam set up " it was like she was forced to protect it but it was all to much as she could not eat it all ) since removing these items we have had no problems and so far she has not shown any signs of protctiveness and we are working on making her calm and trusting

the kids have been fine with her and are not allowed to play with her alone and if they want a toy she has they comand "sit" and replace it with a toy that is hers with supervision of course we will see what the expert says when she comes

sorry about the lack of info have to run will post tomorow

  3. yes we are seeing a qualified behavioralist

I am just trying to remove everything in the house that has caused it so far and making sure there are no toys she can get and take to bed with her

trying to make her feel safe

and when she in doing her growling nasty thing making sure none of the kids or anyone else goes near her

not that she coulds really hurt as she is quite small but it really stresses her out

In the event that she find somthing that she is getting possesive over should I try and distract her( for example call her away outside for a game of fetch or somthing) and remove the item that is causing her distress ?

  5. thats so great to hear I thought it was the other way around my puppy licks my face and my daughters face whenever she is allowed

I though she was trying to dominat us hahah so nice to hear its the other way around ( I have alot to learn)

  6. I walked him for 20 minutes on leash around the backyard saying 'go wees' (what I have been saying from day one) exitedly before I sat and tied him.

Hi deltron - I just picked this up.....I don't want to be pedantic BUT....dogs have an association time frame of a half to three seconds so if you are walking around the yard saying 'go wees' then puppy has not learned what 'go wees' actually means! I would suggest that your puppy thinks that 'go wees' means 'walk around the yard for a bit'....I think you should only use your command when your puppy starts to squat, then follow with lots of praise/treat/both. It does take them a while to specifically relate the command to the action but if you are consistent, puppy will get there. I still give a 'quick, quick' command when Zig actually toilets, just to reinforce and practice the command. Then when we are out and I specifically want him to toilet then all the practice pays off.

Summer pups are soooooo much easier!!! Keep persisting!!!

this is so right just like Rhi said it really hard in winter and frustrating the same as toilet training a child some get it right away some are more work

I tryed everything you have and went through what Rhi has but we have finally clicked it was changing saying "go toliet" when she went out side to saying when she acually squwated that did the trick we are by no means all the way there yet but we are getting there now I say "go toliet " open the door and most off the time its works right away

hang in there yes its cold and wet and boy do I wish I had waited and gotten her in summer ha ha ha :p

  7. EP really good but I cant get Puppy food right now some problems with shiping anyone know shops close to ringwood MEL that not out of stock ( so sorry for hijacking the thread )

Have you tried the Produce store in North Croydon?

    Petstock Lilydale.

Petstock Mitcham. they will probably be out.

I couldn't get LB puppy either. This is why I contacted EP and found out that the adult foods are ok for puppies. Their formulations are different to other companies.

I'm not too sure what's going on with EP as I contacted USA about a few things and they said there shouldn't be any problems with getting the products here. The person I dealt with was going to contact the International Distribution Manager and try to work it out.

Pet Stock Mitcham is out of almost all EP

    will try the others

heard back from the a supplier of Nutro in melbourne they read my whine they are a DOL horray

  8. while we are on kibble can you only buy Nutro online ?I tryed the web site got an answer back but the lady was in QLD so she was going to forward my request to some one in Mel but no answer yet

  9. thats good to know shes 4 months and acting like my kids fine then cranky sleeping more and chewing with great rigor she has lost 2 teeth that I can feel

  10. as others have said be careful

have know 1 dog to die after getting one stuck and the vet said she has had to operate on quite a few dogs who have not chewed them up right and swallowed sharp bits

I stick with chicken wings , cut up chicken frames and shanks, lamb ribs yes all raw

  11. I feed as raw concoction takes time and money though as I buy chicken breast, lamb mince, as the meat in it

I feed Eagle Pack Holistic chicken meal for kibble

As well as a can fish meal and a bone meal (lamb, chicken wings, chicken frames)

I tried The Eagle Pack puppy food in a can but at $ 4.95 is very expensive

The cat gets cheap stuff Dine or fancy feast cans

    And Optimum kibble

She will not eat quality except her caned fish meal and chicken wing meal she gets

    Ha-ha

As long as I can afford it I will feed them the best I can but if things change I guess we will have to down grade

    Shock horror

    I’m sure they will live

  12. Ok I know we have hashed out the dry food seen and it really been done to death

But I have one last question Regarding EPH chicken meal for small & medium breed puppies & adults

I have been giving this to Lucy who is 15 1/2 weeks she’s not big on it and really does not like it much

She has prob 70% of her food is home made

But I want a dry food to give her as well I noticed that EPH is quite low in protein only 24% while most puppy foods are 34-36%

My question is EPH high enough in protein for such a small puppy or should I get the normal EP puppy food while she is young

  13. I cant help with the cat thing but interested in what other say as my cat hate's Lucy and spends all day up as high as she can get if Lucy gets too close she gets hissed at and swiped

as for the lead training Lucy pulled or sulked when we first took her out it took a while for her to get used to the lead she wanted run we started making sure we held the lead close and walked really fast but not quite as fast as she wanted to go then slowly stared walking slower till she is now used to walking next to us at our speed there was alot of "good girl" and so on when she walked nicely we also used a harness as she did not like the feel of having something puling on her neck
