  1. I had my female GS desexed at 6 months. She is now 8.5 months. Was at home for a week with her, just kep her qiuet for 2 days, and no play fighting with her brother. She was fine, didn't even pick at her stitches and no weight issues.

    Gsd Limping

I took my 7 mo to the vet, and he did a thorough check and said it could be just a soft tissue injury, and wasn't concerned with anything major at this point. She is on anti-inflammatoys for 7 days, rest and no play (easier said than done). We will take her back to the vet on Wednesday and see what he says then.

    Gsd Limping

On the day she is limping, yes she limps more after she has been sleeping and then gets up. But on the days that she is ok, getting up after a sleep is ok too. it looks like it is her front left leg. Racing around seems to bring it back on.

    Gsd Limping

Hi I have a 7 month old female GSD, who is limping on and off over the last week or so. Not sure how it happened but we think she jumped a baby gate to get upstairs, she was limping after this. The next day she was fine. A couple of days later she was limping again, but then next day OK. We went to the beach yesterday and spent about 20 minutes running along the beach with her brother and she was OK, and then when walking back to the car she started to limp again. And today she is OK again. Could this be just a muscle strain? I know I should take her to the vet put I do not want to pay loads of $$$$$$$$$ for him to say make rest! I am very cynical about vets!!! Any advice I could do at home before taking to the vet would be appreicated. Thanks
  5. Hi I have a two 4.5 month old German Shepherds, Max & Molly. Molly has got this litlle graze on the side of her eye, its not bleeding but looks like she has either grazed it against something or her and Max's play fights got abit to much. What can you do about these, do they heal them selves or would I need to take her to the vet (again)!!! Its only a tiny little scratch but I wouldn't want it to get infected. Any advice appreciated. Cheryl

    Peptosyl

Hi Does anyone know where I can get hold of Peptosyl apart the Vets? ( In Adelaide) The local pet shop doesn't sell it and suggested the vet. Our pups have diarrhoea and we know what it is, yesterday we gave them lamb flaps and increased the size of their meals (as our breeder suggested due to being on the thin side). The pups had diarrhoea awhile ago and we took them to the vet and he checked them both over and gave them Peptosyl and charged $100 ! So just wondering if I can get Peptosyl somewhere other than the Vet? Thanks Cheryl
  7. Hi I have two 13 week old GSD's. Max and Molly. The breeder advised that the male could have potential to show, so when they sold him to me it was on the understanding that he could be shown if he was of standard. The breeder has advised that they want to show him on 1st Sept, but didn't know what the costs were. I am happy for him to be shown and to take part myself if I can, but I was just wondering, how much do shows cost and would it be down to me as the owner to pay for the shows or the breeder. If he wins shows do I as the owner get any recognition, whats sort of prizes do they get, and who keep the prizes the owner or the breeder. What happens if the breeder wants him to enter a show but it isn't convenient for us or we have other plans. I get on well with the breeder but just want others view on how this relationship between owner and breeder should be. Thanks

Hi When can I start giving my 12 week GSD's raw bones? What is the best type of bone? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Cpudds
  10. quote name='Heidley' date='2nd Aug 2007 - 09:02 AM' post='1930346'] How's the pup going cpudds? Hi Heidley The pup is fine, ears still slightly smelly but not as bad. Cleaned with a cotton bud to get into the creases but not into the cavity. So will just keep cleaning and will mention to the vet at puppy school on Monday.
  11. He had his 12 week injection over the weekend, the vet checked him over and said "got some of the garden in ears" and advised to clean them. Thats all. When we tried to clean them, thats when we noticed the smell, there doesn't seem to be anything in the ears just black muck, and last night he was rubbing his ears a few times. His ears haven't yet "stood up" maybe thats the reason. Thanks
  12. Hi I have 2 GS's. One male one female, 12 weeks old. We have noticed that the males (Max) ears are a bit smelly, smells like cheesey socks!!! And they seemed abit mucky, so we have cleaned the dirt out but are still abit smelly. The females (Molly) ears are OK. The have both been together since we first got them at 8 weeks old, so not sure why one can have dirty/smelly ears and not the other. Any ideas? Any suggestions for cleaning? Thanks
  13. Hi all I have been reading all the Puppy posts with great interested. I have a small query with mine. I have two 9.5 week old German Shepherd puppies, one female (Molly) one male (Max) Toilet & crate training training is going well, they have a part of the garden just for them to do their business, and they do go there, but just occoasionaly they don't seem to want to go near their patch, they pull on the lead, and I have to pick them up and place them on there, and they then fight to get off their patch. But other times they run out the laundry door and go straight there and do their business. Their patch is a couple of metres squared, and a mixture of very fine gravel and sand, the occasions they seem "spooked" it has been raining and their patch is wet, so I can understand they don't like getting their feet wet!! But also thinking there may be something in the night that wanders onto their patch and they can smell it, would this spook them? I have also found a few tiny snails in this area too which I have got rid of staright away. I haven't seen any cats around, but we do have a blue tongue lizard that wanders between the gardens, could it be that? Just wondering if anyone has any ideas why they are happy to go on their patch one day and then spooked about it the next ????? Thanks
  14. Thanks everyone. I am in Adelaide. At the moment its about 14 degrees at night, but in the middle of winter it can drop to about 2. The puppies will have one half of the garden for them, this is fenced off from the rest of the garden which will be our nice area, they will only be allowed in this part supervised. The dogs will have access to the laundry room all the time, which leads outside to their part of the garden, half of their area is under a pergola, which has plastic rolled down sides to it, and this is where their crate will be, so they will be sheltered from the elements. I only mentioned "waterproof" as thats the description of the cover. Cheryl
  15. Hi I am new to this site and was wodering if anyone can advise on sleeping arrangements for a new Lab & German Shepherd puppy. I will be picking them up at the begining of June and want them to sleep outside, they will have access to the laundry room and outside when we are not home and will come in the rest of the house when we are home. I intend to get 2 crates, with waterproof covers and bedding. But not sure if it is safe to have the puppies sleep outside on their first night in our house. Is it too cold for them at 8/9 weeks of age? As they crates are large for these 2 breeds I don't have enough room for the crates in the house but they will have a huge yard/garden outside. Also will they need a crate of their own straight away or can they share one until they get a bit bigger? Obviously we want to do the right thing but want to set the grounds rules from the off. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Cheryl
