  1. I've owned Boxers for coming up to 20 years and don't agree at all that they would not cope with your exercise demands PROVIDING the dog comes from a registered breeder producing structurally sound dogs from heart tested lines. Your average fit and healthy Boxer, really.

Yes, they are braccy, but no where near to the extent of a French Bulldog or Pug, for example. Obviously you wouldn't be fair to expect him/her to run 15km in 30c heat, but for an active and fit Boxer your projected exercise regime in dog friendly temperates would be fine.

My current Boxer would LOVE to live with you lol

Ps: He got his ET at the above mentioned endurance trial last year.

  2. Shame to hear about ET's being cancelled. This is most likely caused by people not entering these events. If we want to see these events Continue it is very important that they are well supported.

Please give some thought to entering these events and encouraging others to do so. This way the endurance test will be around for many many more years.

We did the ET offered by the Vizsla Club last weekend & enjoyed a very well run event. I would recommend the ET to everyone.

We took advantage of training partners beforehand (thanks Starkhehre & Prodigybxr), & will continue to ride with others on occasion, for fun as well as helping others to prepare.

It was such a well run trial. Highly recommend! Fabulous judge, too.

  3. I am not doing an ET until next year, but if anyone wants a training partner, I am still doing a lot of bike work and would love to have someone else to ride with, swap spots etc.

I love to train at Springers (much prefer it to KCC) but can be flexible with ground.

My hrs are also flexible, so if anyone here wants to yell out for a session or a few, just let me know :) I know how boring (and lonely) it can get on your own sometimes

I have a GPS that I use so we would know what speed we are travelling at.

Thanks Starkehre, your offer is greatly appreciated!

Have not been to Springers yet, most of our training has been around Yarra Flats, but planned to investigate Springers tomorrow afternoon. Would that, or another afternoon be a suitable time to meet you there?

I'd also be keen for a training ride, we have entered the Vizsla ET on the 31st. Would be great to have a ride with some other dogs at Springers before then :)

  4. My bike came in today (awesome turnaround!) but now I have to pay it off...hubby won't let me use his credit card to cheat and get it quicker lol.

I'm like you Elise, I loved the prep last year...the few times I did it before my bike just failed.

I am so in love with my bike :) lol.

Would you mind sharing (a link?) as to what bike the shop recommended as suitable for an ET? :)

Sure, http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-au/bikes/model/rove.3/14944/66432/ this is my bike, the guy asked what I was planning on doing and recommended it based on that. I just said I was doing on and off road, like on grass (not mountain biking!). I am really happy with the choice, the guys at the bike store actually let me take it home before paying it off :) (well they know where I work and we've worked next door for 3 years so he knows me I suppose!) it's been raining though, so haven't had a proper ride yet!

    Thank you :)

  6. Uh, they are not built for the job, physically or temprament wise!

As HW said, even a we'll bred pug would struggle in the breathing department during an agility run.

Plus have you ever tried to get a pug to go in a tunnel or over a jump when it didn't want to? They are the most stubborn creatures, and for no reason will often decide to forget what that piece of equipment is for.

Trust me, pugs are not built for agilty!

Sorry, however, this is a bit of a generalisation.

Mine's nothing super-human in the Pug department, but can do all of the above plus Obedience, Rally and gain an 20km Endurance Title..

It's just that they're generally not owned by dog sport folk  :)

  7. Hi all. Thinking about purchasing a Boxer but dont know much about them. Have had many dogs before but never bought a dog myself. I have found one which i plan to go see on saturday but would like some advice as to what to look for. The puppy still has blue eyes? Is this a bad thing? I love the look of them but am afriad it may mean something likes its deaf/blind? Also it is apparently mischievous more so then its siblings. Does anyone have any personal expirence with this? Any help regarding the above and any more information anyone can give me would be awesome. I have researched for hours upon end about the breed and it seems like the perfect dog for me and my partner, im just in the dark a little about selecting the right one. Thank you.

Have you a pic of the pup?
