  1. yep recognise that :) Our longhaired GSD is now 10 and since we got him as a pup it has been like that. We now have a pup as well but the longhair still wins. Pup is cute but the longhaired is beautiful and soft and gorgeous etc etc. I always say "thanks" and actually dont mind it. He is very friendly to all people and animals and he loves all attention.
  2. Our female GSD has the same thing. We got her as a rescue when she was 4 years old and half her tail was bold, she actually pulled out all the hairs. The tip was often bleading. We think she had a lack of attention and being in some sort of washhouse for most of the time before we got her. We have always told her "no" but its very hard. She has been on some sort of drops from the naturopath for a while which made her a lot calmer. She still does it sometimes when we get visitors or if something unexptecing happens (doorbell, phone rings etc) but she doesnt just take every spare minute anymore to chase the tale. I wouldnt recommend putting anything on the tail while you then put the attention on it even more. What we have done in the beginning is wel is put a postit note on her front paw when she would start spinning to try and put her attention to that. She is 11.5 now and still neurotic at some times but at least shes got hair on the tail and is a lot calmer. Good luck with your boy, its very sad to see.

  4. Thats very very sad All the best Jules with this big loss.
  5. Why not go for a walk before you go to bed yourself and let her do her business if you know she has trouble holding up because of the wet weather? Then in the morning, first thing you take her out and go for a walk again. No messing with newspapers, moving bowls etc. just a bit of effort from yourself included
  6. Our longhair is almost 8 and he still follows me everywhere. He is alright when we go to work but when im home "I'm his" my husband can go everywhere and he doesnt care but when I go out of the room he is there with me. Santha stays where she is but Jack doesnt like that idea. it has never worried me I quite like the fact that he is so attached to me...cos I am to him as well
  7. This brings a smile to my face... we often had funny looks when we just moved to Australia because ours are indoors. One time we had an old friend from my husband over for dinner with his wife and 2 kids and when we started eating the dogs were just lying quiet under the table. No begging no nothing. Then 1 of the sons (about 8) said "dont you think we should bring the dogs outside when we are eating"......uhhhhhhhh NO, this is the dogs house as well and this is what they are used to. People are allowed to smoke inside here as well which often has the same effect
  8. Have a look in the rescue section of this forum and see how many dogs get pts everyday and are looking for a home! There are more then enough dogs in this country. Dont breed if you dont do it to make the breed better!
  9. we laughed as well its so funny how they have set this up
  10. Our dog had her ears flushed about 3 weeks ago and that cost 433 dollar. Most expensive part was to send it of to the lab to see what bacteria was growing in there.
  11. How long do you take her for walks? Doesnt she do anything then either? Just start as if she is an 8 week old pup again. Put her outside after naps, a play or whatever and as Luke and Beck said, praise her. Dont just open the door, push her out and let her sort it while she probably doesnt get the point.
  12. Very cute! Funny the 1 ear "up" so she can still follow whats going on :D
  13. For me a purebreed is a dog with proper papers and I cant see just by looking if they got that or not. Im always happy to see dogs going for walks while I think there are to many spending their lives in the backyard. Every dog out there on a walk makes me smile
  14. Exactly and especially when they are a couple of months old. There might be nothing wrong with the pup. If you see the person on a regular basis you could ask in a few months time about the dog (if it still walks funny) but until then dont.
