  1. Thanks all! Love the sardine idea.. smelly but would be really good for them!
  2. Hi all Does anyone have any recommendations for good dry food for staffys, especially ones with skin problems? I have 2 staffy's who have both recently gone off their dry food (they currently eat Advance). I thought it might be worthwhile trying a different brand to see if that sparks their interest a bit! Many thanks :)
  3. I'm concerned because I will be changing what she's used to. She has been crate trained since she was 9 weeks and I don't want to drastically change things if it will confuse her. I'm just trying to make it an easy transition for her.
  4. Hi all Just wondering how you go about introducing a new puppy to a grown adult dog? We currently have a 3 and half year old male staffy. Tomorrow we will be adopting a 5 month old female staffy. They have both met before and unfortunately we didn't introduce them on neutral territory (they both met inside the house) so it took a few days for the 3 year old dog to get used to her. He looked miserable and I've learnt my lesson about never doing this in HIS territory again. Now she is coming to live with us permanently and we're not sure how to approach the first meeting. Should we introduce them together again but out the front of the house this time (so it's neutral territory)? I'm also concerned as the new puppy has previously been crate trained and we're not planning on doing that. At what age can we leave both dogs out in the backyard together? Should we keep them separated (one inside in a pen, one outside in the yard) until they're both used to each other? Sorry about all the questions. Any advice would be appreciated, I just want to do the right thing by both dogs! Mooks
  5. Hi all I want to get my 1 year old staffy a "hanging" toy that he can use when we're not at home and these 2 products both sound great. But I'm not sure which one to get? The Hanging Ball is good because you can put food in it, but you can't with the Bungie Chook. But apparently the chook is quite popular with the dog community out there! Has anyone used either of those, or both even? I'm really stuck for which one to buy. And each one costs about $100 so I don't want to get the wrong one!! Thanks!! mooks
  6. haha sorry everyone, but i think i'm going to have to go with SecretKei on this one... after reading this last night i noticed that it IS his whiskers that are prickling me!! haha i can't believe it, it's so funny. i dont think im allergic to his saliva as i only seem to break out around my neck. ill keep an eye on it though. and thanks for the info clyde, i will try the leave in coniditioner either way im not going to say no to my dog licking me, i love it too much! thanks everyone!
  7. Hi all My staffy pup loves giving me kisses on my neck and my face, but sometimes I notice I'm a bit itchy around that area afterwards and I often have a red rash there. It doesn't last long, probably only about 15 minutes or so, but it just seems a bit odd. It only happens on my neck / chest. Does this happen to anyone else? Or am I just sensitive?! Thanks
  8. Hi all My dog is 8 months old so not sure if I should be posting this in the Training section instead (sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place). My staffy is driving me nuts.. as soon as he sees me or my partner bring out the leash to go for a walk he starts barking at us, biting at the leash, jumping up on us and basically getting extremely excited. And as soon as we get the leash on he's running for the door and dragging me behind him. What can we do to stop this? It's not as bad when there's 2 of us there because one of us can distract him with food while the other puts the leash on. But when I'm by myself, I can't control it. He bites the lead, tries to run off with it, jumps up all over me and barks his little head off. It's driving me nuts!! (For the record, I've tried walking away for 10 seconds each time he barks which quietens the bark a little bit but doesn't stop the biting of the leash and jumping up. I could say "no walk" but then he'll trash the backyard because he hasn't had any exercise!) Can anyone help? Here is a photo of the little monster:
  9. hi inbox i gave my staffy pup chicken necks when he was 5 months old and would not do it again. he stopped eating for a few days and it was so scary. i took him to the vet and they felt some hard blockage around his abdomen most likely cause by the chicken necks. i felt like SUCH a bad mum (btw they said the hot weather didn't help and might've helped them calcify in his stomach.) they gave him a needle and then i had to give him laxatives for the next couple of days beucase he was constipated - the poor thing! over the next week his eating picked up but i wanted to be 100% sure there were no bones inside him so i went back and got an xray. luckily there wasn't. but after lots of worrying and a bit of $$ i learnt my lesson - no more chicken necks!! if you're not sure don't risk it good luck!
  10. Hi all I'm in Perth and am thinking about going to Northern Suburbs Dog Obedience. My puppy is only 9 weeks old though and isn't due for his second vaccination until he's 12 weeks old. Is it okay to take him to puppy preschool now? Or should I wait? I know it's probably best to wait until after his 2nd vacc but socialisation is so important... help!! Thanks
