This is always a great show and I will be popping in to see the hound ring and all my mates to say g'day. Hope the rain is intermittant and holds off for show times. hey guys if you are in Australia check out the repeat of top gear tomorrow night (tues) at 7.30pm and you will see a pack in action and all their beautiful colours!! Not just tri colour! :D

We will be there and very excited that there is another or more foxhound attending. the only thing i am not looking forward to is the uncertain weather - please be sunny, the carting of dog gear, kiddie gear and not being about to store the dogs in the trailer as the ring setup is a bit tight. But it will be great to be at a speciality! Last time I entered I was waddling round 6-7months preggas!!!

train him with one of the things that they love besides running after a scent - FOOD!!!! You have to be quite firm but not over aggressive, and it is repetition, repetition repetition. And as Snowysal said if there is a scent - dont bother. As a house dog they can either be great or a pain - my boys are happy to come in and sit on the couch for hours but my girl will counter surf and get into bins non stop. they will definately take a spot in the family ranks and will think that they are entitled to come in when ever! Sydney hunt club is still going and I if I had the room I would of loved to take him in but I am currently trying to place two hounds at the mo. Please keep us all updated on how Rupert is going!

I own a few foxhounds and have been getting to a few hunts and I can say that there is still same sex aggression within this hunting line. Even with other friends with the breed, there is sometimes dogs or bitches that just dont get along together. You are still going back to the basic drives of hierarchy of the pack with the dogs being full. Bitches in season will cause issues and there will be the fight for alpha positioning. It might not be as bad as some other breeds, but they can still show a lot of aggression. I am lucky at the moment as my full males do get on extremely well considering I have an entire bitch. We sin bin the dog who causes any issue and the more you work them the less issues - too buggered to worry about issues. :D

Have brought the fox and hound DVD for the little man and I will keep a look out for the Bellstone Fox now too thanks Dust Angel. Monah, I have kept a eye on the royal results and there is 2 foxhounds that were shown from a breeder in Vic. I am actually on the border of Vic and NSW. I have thought about going to both SA and QLD royals this year - it is dependent on work though. I am really keen to get up to QLD to meet Narelle and also meet the Mingus Hounds in person as Jan was a lovely support for me. I am going to be at the melbourne royal this year - missed last year because of bub and I am not going to miss it this year! I is funny that you use to show wolfies as that is the other breed that I am eyeing off at the mo! But I think that it might look a bit funny as I am not the tallest of people and if I showed a large male I dont think you will see me! :D And then there is the trouble of showing in group with 2 rare breeds! I am going to Cowra next weekend to show my guys and meet up with another breeder so I will try to take some photos of the lot and I will remember to take some photos of the hunt pack in action next time too!

lovely photo of everyone meeting the hounds - I am sure that it was enjoyed by both parties! They are meant to be friendly as it is stated in the breed standard that temperament is friendly and not aggressive, which does help to live in a pack environment. There is a book that I have been eyeing off on ebay about a young foxhound pup that makes friends with a young fox, been waiting till the little man to be a little older for him.

Hi Guys, I have only just stumbled on this thread after both Rebanne and Trisven told me about it as I have been slack with stalking DOL. I have three show Foxhounds and now have been getting involved with hunt foxhounds as well. I am only new to the breed (coming up to four years) but if anyone has any questions about this beautiful breed I will chat for hours about them and if there is anything I dont know I will endever to find out from my various sources both in Aust. and UK. My guys are from both hunt and show lines and I can say that this breed is absolutely fantastic and we are all one happy little pack! Foxhounds can be a little work and are probably suited for a more experienced hound person, and if you accept some of the limitations with them (they are not the best recall dog and can be a little large and stubborn for some) they will reward you with a lots of love. I love talking about these guys and please dont hesitate to say hello at shows if you see me or to drop a line. And those velvet ears - my OH always said that too he loves the feel. There are several chat groups on facebook for the foxhound - love our foxhounds and enthusists of the english foxhound. Definately come have a look!

A sad time for all involved with foxhounds with the loss of this great lady. I was fortunate to have met this great mentor and friend who I could discuss the ins and outs of this beautiful breed and also providing lots of encouragement. Cold weather seems to have hit everyone at the moment. From my understanding there is meant to be a course structure with Cartrophen to gain the maximum effect and with his adversion to needles this maybe a problem. The next injection may work or it may not - your Diesel maybe the 20% of dogs to which doesn't respond to cartrophen. All I say is give it a go with the course and see how you go. He maybe fully healed from his operation, but arthritis can flare up at anytime and I would also be considering someone (maybe a muscleman or dog physio) to assess his gait to make sure that his biomechanics of movement is not causing extra stress on his joints. My big boy is supplemented with a joint formula every winter (advised by the muscle man) after his elbow injury and it seems to make a huge difference. Also I would recommend Eagle Pack dry food if you give a kibble. The eagle pack has glucosamine in it which helps with the arthritis especially in synovial joints like the knee and hip and I would be making sure that he is getting some omega 3 and 6 (which are natural anti-inflammatories). hope it helps.

When introducing dogs, I take them onto neutral territory, on lead, let them sniff etc, and when they seem fine with each other, take them into the yard/house ?? and let them off. With pups you could probably do this in your yard or house with no problems. They should be fine Yes, the 11month old will be stronger, so just monitor their playing etc, the other one will soon catch up and hold it's own :rolleyes: Thanks for your advice. We have organised a different kennel for the little one to stay in and get it's rest/sleep for growing during the day. Will not let them play together unless we are monitoring them. Hopefully the older one wont teach the little one its one bad habit - grabbing the washing off the line.
