  1. oh I saw that post by freyssmum and didn't even think to ask her where she got it, will go do that, thanks Norskgra, I usually just sit down to do the toy poodle to. I have whiplash in my back muscles and can't bend down for long so figured a grooming table will be alot easier Interesting what you say about the elkhounds coats after being dryed though.
  2. lol I think I'm definatly going to get a dryer now. Plus I love the look they get after they are bathed and fluff dried hehe They look all "plushy" hehe AFter looking around there are some slightly cheaper dryers around. I had a look at the oldfields that kaywoman mentioned and thought they were very reasonably priced, not as expensive as I had thought. A grooming table is on the list of things to get to Thankyou all for advice, it is much appreciated!
  3. Silverblue I'm jealous! Wish I had a brother to buy me wonderful pressies like that Have fun with it!!!
  4. thanks sammy_ballerina! I'm going to be getting one of those towels you mentioned! We have a similar type of towel for the toy poodle and it dries her so fast!
  5. Thankyou! Thanks for the comments on the furmanator to Vehs, after reading about it on a grooming forum there were quite a few people who didn't like it. will stick with grooming supplies that I know work
  6. hmm will have to go have a look at the vacuum cleaner ok so look for an airforce one, no problem, will have a search and see what I can find Thanks for your help guys! This will be my first large breed and one that I have been wanting for 6 years so I want to do EVERYTHING right
  7. Thanks guy! As aways have given me some stuff to think about
  8. Thanks Nadia, you're right, a grooming table will really save ya back. That's a definate I think When it comes to dryers is there certain brands that wouldn't be powerful enough for a large dog? I've noticed there's some smaller ones on ebay which are about $100 (I really don't have the money for a $500 one) but I dont want to buy something that is not going to do the job.
  9. Thanks for the tip Kaywoman, will go and have a look and will make sure to keep my eye on it
  10. Hello all I'm going to be getting my first large double coated breed (white shepherd) soon and am currently going through all the grooming equipment I will need. Besides the usual slicker brush, coat rake, shedding blade, comb, nail clippers and the like I was wondering if any other owners owned a grooming table and/or a dogs hair dryer? I can see the benefit of a grooming table and really think I will buy one but I'm not sure if it is worth my while to buy a dryer or not? Everywhere I read says they don't need to be bathed very often but then I think well when I do bath her how am I going to thoroughly dry her. I can just imagine it would take me forever to use a conventional hairdryer like I do with the toy poodle So what do others do with their double coated breeds? Thanks in advance ETA: Has anyone used or own a FURminator? Are they really as good as the website suggests? http://www.elegantdogshop.com.au/furminator.html
  11. Can a pup still catch parvo if it doesn't touch the ground? Say if it was carried or if it was just looking out of the window in the car (stopped of course I would never let a dog hang it's head out of a moving car window). I don't want my pup to fall into the minority
  12. I want to say thankyou for your words of wisdom to I have saved all your articles and will be putting them all into practice when our new puppy arrives. Not to mention it makes very interesting reading and definatly gives you stuff to think about.
  13. Very worried after reading this thread. My two went in for their check up and C5 vacc this morning. No reaction but it has certainly given me alot to think about.
