  1. She was desexed about 2 months ago (actually that's when she first went to the bathroom inside again, but we were back to being better) so it shouldn't be that! We will try to make sure she is outside at the relavent times tonight and see if that makes it better. I am hoping to do something to the courtyard soon to make it more appealing for her to as I think the weeds being higher than her in the garden part is a little off-putting! I guess I will just have to watch her extra closely at mum's (everywhere else we go is very dog friendly and would put any accidents down to ... that happens ...) Is there anything I can do in the short term to cool her down in her crate? We try to let the fan blow in a little, but I don't think we can get a new one this close to Christmas!
  2. After just reading the advice for a while I have a couple about my 7 month old Powder Puff ... any advice would be great (sorry if it is long) Toileting! We walk her in the morning when we get up (about 6:30am) and she usually goes to the bathroom on the walk. She holds it while we are at work (or goes outside) and gets another walk at about 5:30pm when she goes to the bathroom again. If we aren't too tired she gets a walk before bed. The last few nights at around 9pm, while we are playing she will pee on the living room carpet. She gets a very stern no, some time out (while we try and clean it up) then we take her into our courtyard for a while (where she usually doesn't go) and often another walk (where she does go). There are no signs that she needs to go as it seems to be mid way through returning the ball you threw or on a tug break. Is there something I am missing or is she just being an obnoxious 7 month old who will stop when she keeps getting in trouble? I am really worried about taking her to other peoples houses now when she used to be good and take herself to the door to go out. Bed! We have a soft crate that she gets zipped into at night. She has some water in there and is in our room at the moment. The crate has 2 full sides, and mesh on 2 sides. We have been putting a blanket over 1 other side and letting air in the 4th side. (I hope that makes sense) After a few nights of her not liking getting zipped in she usally settles in a couple of minutes now. However she is waking and whining a couple of times every night (sometimes it might be to scratch) and it is driving us nuts. I understand the light might get her up at 5:30am ... but before that it shouldn't. Would she be too hot in her crate? We are thinking now of moving her crate after the holidays (and time spent in other houses when she won't sleep in our room anyway) and putting her downstairs. Can I still zip her in down there? Will this cause heaps more problems?
  3. My 4 month old pup used to cry lots and hate being put in the car. We tried to lots of short trips to places that were fun ... friends, park, puppy school ... it took a while and her worrying the whole time then all of a sudden she stopped fighting to go in and now tries to get in herself. She still cries a bit at times and doesn't like the harness but is getting better. We just tried to associate the car with fun and it seems to have worked.
  4. Our 16 week old Powderpuff was going really well with toilet training up until a week ago. Hardly any mistakes and if she was caught and taken outside she would know what to do. We were happy and the carpets were cleaned (not only from that though ) Then it rained and was really windy for a week ... now she is all messed up. I think she was scared of the courtyard during that time and was realy hard to get out and we had lots of mistakes in the house. We would go outside for ages (half hour plus) when she showed signs, and she would shiver against the door then bolt inside and the minute your eyes were off her run and pee in the house. We tried making some cover for her out there but it didn't help. So now we are trying to train her to go outside again and have some fake grass from bunnings to try and make it more like the grass outside she went on in the rain. As we have a 2 story house we also have a little bit upstairs in a bathroom so she doesn't have to go downstairs if we are upstairs. (We don't mind having her partly inside/fake grass trained.) I was going to buy special treats just for toileting and see if that helps. I am also going to try associating it with a word so she knows what to do if it is wet again. So, my questions are.. Will it confuse her having 2 places in the house? Can I give her the same treats in both places? Should I treat and praise her as much when we aren't at home (walking, visiting friends, park) or will she get confused at home? Thanks ... I really want to get this under control again ASAP!!
  5. We have a 3 month old Chinese Crested Pup that has been allowed on the couch and bed (not that I really like this) with us for the last month. At first it didn't seem to be an issue because she couldn't get up herself but now she is turning into a projectile puppy and will launch herself up and often towards our heads. I know that we were bad to allow this and would now like to correct this behavour before it gets worse. What ways can I use train her to sit on the ground? I have tried putting her down, telling her "NO" and she sits and looks at me a minute, growls and does it again so I think it is a game. We tried a time out method for a while but she doesn't seem to understand that. I am new to this puppy thing and really have no idea.
