  1. Hi there the trainer at our puppy preschool reccomended putting some pillows on either side of the puppy so that as you go around corners he can lean on them and use them as a buffer. she also said to turn the radio up nice and loud to drown out outside noises. she said it would take them some getting used to but trying to make it a fun experience i.e giving him a piece of cabanossi as he sits quitely in the car just before you drive down the driveway ( only small though cause you dont want to make him sick.) i havent tried any of these as charlie is happy lying in his crate in the car but another puppy at preschool tried it and after a week it worked. good luck
  2. thanks both of you for your help he is going to the vet next monday for his 12week vaccinations so i will discuss this again with the vet. we would normally have elected for a pure breed chihuahua and had been loking for one for a long time but we met charlie at an rspca shelter and couldnt leave him behind. thank you for your input though because we are new to all breeds of dogs and i wasnt aware cross breeds had more health problems but we will definetly keep a closer eye on him from now on. thanks again
  3. hi everyone i have been looking at some of the breeders websites for chihuahuas (we are looking for a friend for charlie) and they all say that the puppies will be avaliable at 8 weeks however most say that the puppies come desexed. the vet said she cant desex charlie auntil his testicles drop which will be around 6 months of age. how do the breeders desex earlier? i am asking because we would prefer to get charlie desexed earlier than 6months as that would be the 17th december and we are going away on a long holiday just after xmas so we want to know he is all better before he stays with his grandparents. one last question how long does it take them to recover? by the way charlie is a maltese x chihuahua (not sure if that makes any difference) thanks for any help or advice
  4. hi everyone we are so new to puppys that we have another question about our charlie. i was told by a friend that a raw carrot would be good for him to chew on? we are having some problems getting him to eat at the moment. how much food should a chihuahua x be eating everyday? he has puppy milk 150mls 3 times a day because he just isnt eating anything we put 1/3 cup of pedigree puppy food in the milk as well which he eventually eats. is this enough food for him? we think he is only eating small amounts but he is a very small dog. we have tried meat rice and vegies and he only had the meat and we tried hills food and he refused please help us thanks
  5. hi all i was wondering if anyone knows of a puppy daycare in the shellharbour NSW area? or if anyone has puppies in this area they would like to socialise with my gorgeous chihuahua x charlie as he loves other dogs thanks
  6. hi thanks all for your help he is a chihuahua x maltese and most of the toys we bought him are too big except he has his 2 favourite bears that he likes to boss around and snuggle with any ideas on what to feed him? he is currently eating pedigree puppy dried food 3 times a day because the vet wants him to gain weight and he is having treat biscuits and liver treats which he loves whenever he does anything right. we tried him on the moist food but he turned his nose up at it and didnt like the hills food either even when we softened it like the vet said too. i think i might try the puppy milk and porridge are they ok to use? thanks again
  7. hi there i am new to the forum we picked up our gorgeous malchi charlie last sunday and he is eight weeks old. he has almost stopped crying at night now and has trined himself to go to the toilet on the puppy training pads (for which we are very proud). my question is how do i keep him entertained during the day when my partner and i go to work. he stays inside in a large playpen which has his kennel, food bowls, hundreds of toys and training pad? i know he cries when we leave and he gets so excited when we return is there anything that can keep him entertained during the day apart from his current fascination; toilet paper. any help is appreciated thanks as this is our first puppy.
  8. Hi there we are new to the forum on sunday we picked up our gorgeous malchi charlie. he is 8 weeks old but when we took him to the vet she said she thinks he may have been born premature. i have two questions what should i feed him to gain weight as he weighs a tiny 1kilo and the vet wants him to gain weight and how do i stop him from crying when i leave his sight my partner and i both are out of the house during the day and i know he cries when we leave . he has improved over night as we have been ignoring him and he only cried out once. he lives inside in a kennel in a playpen and has toilet trained himself on the puppy training mats for which we are both very proud and grateful any advice on my two questions would be great. thanks
