  1. my dogs used to be on dry food but I have swapped to the commercial BARF for about 2 weeks. I dont have time to make the BARF parties at home so I buy them ^^ The way I am feeding my dogs is 1/2 party a day for dinner, chicken wings for breakfast for 4 days a week, the other 2 days I feed 1/2 party for breakfast and 1/2 for dinner. Besides the BARF and chicken wings, they get sardines 3 times and a raw egg a week. As I do that, I would spend around $5 a week on BARF, 50 cents on a can of home brand sardines in oil (1.68 for pack of 3 from safeway), $1 on 4 chickens wings which I normally buy from safeway or coles, whatever it costs for an egg so that adds up to $6.50 - $7 a week / dog. It works out the same price if I feed my dogs on royal cannin as I did ($36/bag of 3 kg).
  2. I am not sure if it depends on different dogs. My Lucky ate poo once or twice when she was less than 4 months old. Back then she had upset tummy so I had to feed her on rice, chicken and vegies sometimes. As I did some research on DOL, i think Nekhbet's explanation is spot on. But since I put my Lucky back to dry food (RC) and now she is on BARF commercial diet, she has never looked back and sniffed her poo ever again, it's the same to my other dog which is on RC diet.
  3. My Jack russell x pup is about 4 months old and he is 5kg already. Do you guys think he is a bit over weight? I dont want him ends up being a fat and unhealthy dog. I am feeding him royal Cannin. I am thinking of feeding him something else beside dry food for breakfast. Should I feed him one or 2 small (or medium?) size chicken wings for break fast and dry food for other meals? If chicken wings doesnt work out for daily break fast, what else should I give him for breakfast so he has some choices in his breaky menu? could this kind of diet get him to put on more weight? and would it be alright with his digest system? Hope to hear from all of u guys ^^
  4. i know for sure the pet wonderland shops stock Nutrience (dry and canned)
  5. Yay!!!! I went to the pet shop on saturday and got a bag of RC. My Pups get all excited again. I think I might need to go back there to grab couple of bag more. Talking about poo. My pups were on eukanuba just for few meals but it produced poo stinky as heck. I have never had to cover my nose to clean up the mess when they eat RC.
  6. I have the same situation as you daxhound. My pup is on royal Canin too. On tuesday I ran out of food for my pups. i when to a pet supply in richmond (i am in melbourne) they did not have any royal canin in stock so I had to buy eukanuba instead. One of my pup dislikes it. He does eat but does not enjoy it as royal canin. It takes him more than 15 mins to finish his meal instead of 2 mins with royal canin. I will take eukanuba back to the store on monday to get refund and buy the royal canin. Beside, I realized there is corn as one of the ingredients in eukanuba which will go straight out in the other end. I think Royal canin is the best dry food I have ever tried.
  7. I have tired Hills, Nutrience (Not sure of spelling), Innova, and RC. My dogs just love RC, they are doing really great on it with 2 chicken wings a week. I hope you will find the best diet for your dog ^^
  8. hi guys, Just some update about the pups diet as promised. Royal canin is the best. Ben never leave his food behind, I feed him 3 times a day and he enjoy his meal every single time. With Lucky, she was still fussy until I got her desexed. The vet advice to feed her soft food only for the first few days and only by a little. I thing becaused of that, Lucky was left hungry so i fed her dry food only the first time in 5 days after she got desexed. She digged in and finish the dry food in no time. Since then, she's been eating dry food only twice a day hehehe... Btw, I gave my pups their first chicken wing in their lives this afternoon. I chopped it in a half and hammered it a bit. They absolutely loved it. But i am still a bit concern about the bones. I know that with chicken bone after they chew it could be broken in small pieces and they could be very sharp. Would it be dangerous for the pups? the neck and the wing, which one is better? Hope to hear the valuable advice from u guys soonest
  9. hi guys, thank you all for the answers. I am just worried about this matter because it has never happened to my other female jack russell x . I am relieved now to know it's normal. @Alanglen: I will post up some photo of them as soon as i can. I have the little avatar of the pups 4 legs up, they are just adorable . @Poodle wrangler: Tks for the advice. I do try to ignore him when i just get home and only pay attention to him when he is calm but puppy sure learn that really slow but he is my good boy ^^
  10. Hi guys, It's me again. This time is about Ben, my male jackie.... I dont know why but after I get home from work , he always gets so excited and jumping up on me. Then I normally find drops of his piss on the floor where he just jumped. It's like his wee wee leaks when he get excited or something. It happens when my sister comes in to feed him or say hello as well. Also occasionally, I find drops of piss on the floor too. Is it something I should be worried about? It has never happened to my female jackie. PLS HELP ME !!!!!!
  11. hehe... has never happened again since. I think they tired of "checking" each other out. Lucky got spayed on Monday. She looked so tired and sleepy. The second I saw her, my girl friend cried. It did look really hurt T_T
  12. OMG, I checked out the website. Their price is really cheap. Could they be trusted with payment and also product's quality?
  13. Okie, I see. So they were only playing game, checking each other out. Well.. ^^ that's a phew... I thought it could b some kindda weird behavior. Tks a lot u guys!!!!
  14. Hi, I am not sure if any of you guys have seen this or happened to your pups before. Here is the story. I have 2 pups, Ben is a 8 week old male jack russell x and Lucky about 6 month old female jack russell x This morning when I woke up, I saw something really strange to me as I have never owned a pup and couple of male and female pups before. I saw Lucky and Ben were licking each other's private parts, Lucky is on top so... well it's like the 69 position >_< And then Ben seemed to get excited i think. I am not really sure because I did not check his private part. But from what i saw, I think he kindda jumped up on Lucky and push push on Lucky's heard and her butt... you know, it's like dogs are doing it. Then they stopped. I did not catch that act again through out today except for about 3 hours I was out of the house to get some food and other stuff for them. OMG, Ben is only 8 weeks old and Lucky is about six months old, she is not in season yet, i think and I am going to get she desexed next monday. How could this happen? I am so DUMP..... T_T Please help ^^
  15. Hahhaa... Yeah as i mentioned it Jeane, I am imaging how my pups chew up a big meaty bone. But I will sure try out the chicken wings, It does seem to be a safe option since my pups are still little. Lucky likes eating apple, carrot and even capsicum as well so hope Ben will be the same so their diet could be balanced ;) btw, the dinner turned out pretty good for Ben. He finished his meal of royal cannin dry food only in no time and I did not add any wet food at all. This made me really happy and there is a bright future that Ben will not be like Lucky, being a fussy eater. But Lucky did not finish her food T_T and I will not give her any wet food tonight even she did not finish her meal. Hopefully tomorrow she will be too hungry to be fussy :D Tks for the advice and I will keep you guys update about the pups' diet ^^
  16. I've been on priceless website but I could not find the spectrum for pup up to 4kg. Could some one advice where to get it cheap?
  17. Hi guys, Just a side question, why do u dont like buying things from a pet shop? I use Innova when I got my first dog but she didnt like it so much so I changed to a different brand.
  18. Hi guys!!!! Yeah!!! i've got Royal Cannin this afternoon for my dearest pups. The second I got home, I tried the food right away. I think it's fantastic. Ben the 8 week old boy seems to like it so much. He finished the meal even without wet food. with Lucky my 6 month old girl, i think it's even better. She ate the whole thing without wet food as well. I will give them another meal tonight but I think I am the happiest owner in the world. ROYAL CANNIN ROCKS!!! @Monosylabik: I was thinking of giving my pups some raw meaty bone, too. But I was advised that not to give the pups anymore raw meat while feeding them Royal Cannin. I think raw meat is a great idea but still, Could you guys please advice me what's best for the pups? I would really appreciate ^^ Hope to hear from you real soon ^^,)
  19. Hi guys, Thank you so much for all the great advises from all of you!!!!!!!!! Since I have given Ben the worming pill, I will take him to the VET next monday for a general check, getting microchipped. Also I found out that a heart worm shot would last a year costs only $81 and according to the VET, it's better than the monthly dose so I am thinking of going to get both of my pup this shot too. But I still would like some advice from you guys if I should do that or not. Hope to hear you guys' valuable advice
  20. At the moment, I am using the Topitran worming pill for my pups. It controls Round worm, whip worm, hook worm and tape worm. A pack contains 4 tablets. Every time I give 1/2 of a tablet per pup (2.6kg - 5kg). For Lucky, she has been taking 1/2 of a tablet a month for 3 months. After that, she will be taking 1/2 of a tablet every 3 months. That's what the person at pet paradise advised me when I got Lucky. Do u guys think it's the best? Is there any other better alternative? I realized after buying Lucky that they aint the best but I did not know where to ask until now. Please give me some advices!!!! @Poodle wrangler: I am not sure if there is any fleas in my area. I live in abbotsford in Melbourne btw. How do u do if there is any? I will buy some flea collars for my pups. Tks for your warning ^^ Tks a lot for your responds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^^
  21. I actually did not get Ben's vaccination done. I got Ben from a couple in Yarra Ville. They are not breeder. They just have a litter and advertise selling them on gumtree website. They gave me Ben's vaccination record. He had his C3, distempered, Hepatitis and parovirus done. My other dog is Lucky, she is about 3.6 kg which is slightly heavier than Ben. She is talking 1/4 of the tablet so I think it should be alright to give Ben the same amount, rite? Besides, do u think I should worm Lucky right away as well just in case or she will be alright until her next worming due which is in the 22nd of this month? ah, there is one more thing. I was in a pet shop near Queen vic market in the other day to look for avocate (heart worming medicine). My pup is under 4kg but one of the seller told me that I could use the one which is for dogs from 4 - 10kg. "It's better to overdose" It's what she said. Is this right? And I have heard of the heart worming which would last for 3 months, do u guys know where to get it? @StaceyB: Tks for your help. I stored this emergency number in my phone ^^
  22. Hi guys, Tks for the quick responds. My pup has been vaccinated so should I use the worming tablet that I normally use for my other pup? Or I will have to take Ben to the VET? @Persephone: Jezz... that virus looks scary. I mean.. I keep my pup safe inside all the time except for going for a walk or playtime in the garden which is clean, small. So u think would it be okie? @StaceyB: Yeh, when I found the worm in Ben's poo, I though it was a rubber band that Ben accidentally ate but then I knew it was a worm. It scared me a bit. Could u give me the 24h VET? I live in melbourne. I think that would come handy someday. Tks ^^
  23. Hi again, thank you again for all the great advices from you guys. Ben, my other puppy IS HOME. Iam so happy. I think I will give royal cannin a try. My vet gave me a sample in the other day, it seems great. @Nekhbet: Milk is the drink they give the pups, they feed them the wet food chicken and rice for pup from coles. His stool stinks so bad and it's kindda yellow and wet. I am changing it to the hill that i am feeding my other pup at the moment. His stool getting better. But again, I will change to royal cannin and hope it will be my last stop. @jeanne: Thanks for the advice. I am trying to follow to what u say. My pups are doing really well. It's funny. Yesterday I fed both of them. Ben finished his food first, Lucky has been spoiled for so long so she is a bit fussy. But the second Ben started tasting Lucky's food which I wasnt quick enough to stop him but it turned out to be a good thing. Lucky came up and finished her food really fast. I think she afraid of Ben would eat her food, too lolz... Anyway, THANK HEAPSSSSSSSS for all the helps. I am really happy that i found this website. Hopefully you guys wouldnt mind for all the silly question from a newbie like me ^^
  24. Hi Guys, This morning I saw there is a long, kindda white colour worm in one of my dog's stool. I have two so I just cant tell which one is it. But I think it's Ben because he is nearly 8 weeks old and I got him on Sunday. My other dog is nearly six months old, I have never seen worm in her stool. Should I deworm both of the dogs? What kind of deworm should I use? How do I deworm them to make sure they will get rid of the worms (YEWWWW!!!!) ? When I got Ben the younger one, he has been to the VET for his first vaccination. I also saw 3 ticks for the distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus (what is this btw?) He has not been heartwormed yet but I will do it very soon. I would really appreciate any help from you guys. Thank you for reading.
  25. Hi Guys, Tks so much for all the advices above. I took my pup to the VET on the other day cause she was having a kind of allergy, weather or environment allergy. The vet gave me some Royal Canin and my pup seems to like it. I just wonder how do you get the dog to eat dry food only? How do you actually do that without the pup being left empty stomach? I just could not stand the thinking of my dog does not eat anything for the whole day. I know what u might thinking of me but... Pls help!!!!!!! LOVELY NEWSSS!!!! I am getting a jack russell x maltese this sun day. He is only about 8 weeks old and the owner is still feeding her some kind of canned milk. they are not registed breeders but they seem nice and care for their pups. They had him vaccinated last week. I just wonder what should I feed the pup? canned milk? and Wat kind would be good for him? Or should I feed him dry food for pups and wet food? I am so excited and so looking forward to sunday. My lucky will have a friend to play with. And he is half jack russell, too. So hope they will get along fine. PLS HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Regards to everyone ^^
