  1. Have you considered a pet sitter? A pet sitter would mean your cats could stay in their own familiar environment. I do pet sitting with Pet Sitters Australia.
  2. The canine reproduction course sounds interesting Steve.Might have to look into that more. Also, thanks for the recommendations on the books Bailey's Mum. I will definitely check them out. Iam hoping that work will want to pay for any training as it can only benefit the business, now to just convince them:) Thanks everyone for the advice, didnt expect any arguments to arise.
  3. Pet Sitters Australia have carers that can stay overnight in your home to care for your pets. They all have police clearances and full insurance. Kerry, the owner is great and very knowledgeable. You can check out the website at www.petsitaus.com.au
  4. Thanks. Are there any other courses out there? Might have to investigate this one further:)
  5. Are there any dog breeding courses that would suit those working in the vet industry? i don't want to breed myself but working in a vet clinic I am often asked questions by breeders and I cannot answer their questions. We deal with alot of breeders and i would love to be able to understand what theyre talking about and give them the correct information. i have done previous courses but none of them go into depth.
  6. I was very nervous flying my timid GSD over from Adelaide to Melbourne. I think she did okay but I didn't. I fretted about her the whole time. I was so relieved to see her the other end. She did end up losing weight for the time that we were away (10 days) and was a little clingy but was fine when we got back home. I probably wouldnt do it again though unless necessary, for my nerves
  7. I find euthanasia in cases of seriously ill animals easier to deal with. In these cases euthasasia can be seen as a gift to end their pain and suffering. It's those that are unecessary, such as greyhound euths the hardest to accept, especially when done on a daily basis. I don't cry at work but have cried later that night at home. It helps to release the emotions every once in a while. It is an emotional job and will get you down sometimes but when you get to see a seriously-ill pet that wasnt thought to have made it, go home it makes it worthwhile.
  8. Are there any pet sitting companies in your area that offer overnight care in the carers home??
  9. Hi Dolers, I have purchased some dog and cat cans, dog collars, pet treats, and a couple of toys to donate and looking for someone to collect these items and take to a donation point. I am in Paralowie, SA but can meet somewhere locally. the local petstock didnt have a donation bin.
  10. I believe Petstock are also accepting donations, as well as GRSA (Greyhound Racind of South Australia) (drop off monday to friday) and The Gift Specialist at Gawler (drop off Monday to Saturday). It's so great to see everyone getting involved and helping out all the victims of the floods - furry or otherwise
  11. I have a ceramic dish outside. It gets green but it's eaily wiped off in less than a minute.
  12. Don't forget the support staff who work behind the scenes.
  13. I have a GSD that I love to death but having worked with greyhounds, I have totally fallen in love with the breed. They are docile, sweet dogs and don't need alot of exercise. I hope to adopt one, one day soon.
  14. if the nails are white you can see the blood vessel in the nail. cut below this otherwise the nail will bleed. if you do accidentally cut the quick then use a bar of soap and scratch the nail into the bar. do try to avoid this though as it is quite painful. if the nails are black just trim a little bit at a time. if you arent confident doing this or your dog is uncooperative you could always ask your local vet clinic or groomer to do it. a clinic i worked at offered this service for $10. good luck.
