  1. Oh, wow. You have 2 dogs and you're renting? I've been looking for a place to rent, need to take 1 of the dogs with me. But i am having an impossible time finding a suitable house, that allows pets. I have and am renting with 5 dogs. It's a regular suburban block. Our landlords and neighbours have always been fine with it (I hate barking dogs and will not tolerate it from my own). As for how many dogs is too many, I would say I'm well over my limit and will be keeping it down to 2 when my current dogs pass on. I have very strong bonds with 2 of my dogs and feel guilty that I don't get to give as much attention to the other 3 because my 2 entire boys demand so much of my attention. Snow Wolf we're currently renting with 16 sibes!!!!!!! I think one of the biggest things with multiple dogs is having adequate fencing, yards etc where you can separate them if you need to. We have 6 smaller yards, where they are in groups of 3, sometimes this changes, as well as a large exercise yard where most of them send time together when we are home. Our numbers will be going down a little in the next few months but not by much :-)
  2. Hey Nikkis Mum Glad to see some more further mushers in NSW Where do you live? We usually train down and Belanglo or Wingello State Forests when the weather gets cooler. We are down that way most weekends and camp over night with the dogs. The NSW Husky Club hold various races throughout the year starting off with an introductory weekend around April. Unfortunately we can't run the dogs on the snow in NSW Nic pic Bartok
  3. What do you classify as a prey item? To compare a JRT and human, that is just laughable
  4. We have those kids shell pools in all of our dogs yards during summer. Some will lay in it by most dip their feet in there and thats about it. I wouldn't be too worried about the effect on their coats we have never had any dramas
  5. Has anyone looked at imported 2 dogs at once, from the same kennel? Just wondering if flight costs etc are doubled or not
  6. So sorry Helen I had no idea. My thoughts are with You and Russ RIP Suki, :D
  7. No they don't pop up often although I know the breeder that we got Onyx from has just done a mating of the same lines. There are sure to be lots of Agouti pups if i had space and the time i'd consider it. when they skin kids move out of home i would love a long haired dog but right now i will stick to the rotts but i am definately in love You can find out more here http://www.huskycolors.com/colors.html

  9. Yes it is but I dare say you would get laughed out of the ring here in Aus. In Europe it would be a different story
  10. That's my baby girl. She is a wooly or Long Coat as well. So she is very rare indeed. I've not found another Long Coated Agouti anywhere. she is stunning is she still a pup or do you have updated pics?? He was 12mths old last week. This is the only one I have here at work. This is her grandmother Smudge

  12. This just adds credence to the fact that it is the owners to blame and not the dogs. Sonia Exactly. If it had been happening for period of months it should have been brought to the attention of the owners sooner. Huskies are certainly not the dog for everyone. I have had people want to adopt rescues of me that say they have read up on the breed yet in the next sentence say they are looking forward to taking the dog to the beach so it can run around in the surf
  13. IMO (as the owner of a Husky) this sort of attack wouldn't have happened if the owners of the dogs were responsible owners who knew what sort of care a Husky requires. While our Husky is prey driven and will catch birds if you let her, if the fence fell down on our side and she was able to get into my neighbour's yard (who has a Maltese) she would NEVER hurt Casey at all. Yes, Huskies are prey driven, but no, not all Huskies are like this. In fact, I would say that the owner is probably the sort of person who tells his dogs to "git 'em!" every time they're faced with another dog, and if that's the case, who can blame them for turning out like this. Yes,ferel owners ferel dogs, same goes with the human race. And that could just be an enormous assumption... Huskies can be gorgeous, sweet-natured, good-with-kids family companions - and hop over a fence at night to go killing anything they can get at. I know this, because I witnessed two huskies under a half-full moon jump *in almost complete silence* from the ground in my yard, up to the roof of the neighbour's shed in one bound. They were incredibly agile, incredibly silent, and incredibly efficient hunters. They broke into three different chook cages I had my guineapigs, rabbits, chooks, and ducks in and slaughtered them all over about three months. After I saw them under moonlight, I gave up keeping small pets in the yard. They were shot about a month after I saw them; they attacked the calves at the Lowline stud up the road and the farmer shot one and winged the other one. The farmer rang the owners of the Huskies; who were absolutely gob-smacked that their beloved pets had been out of the yard, had no idea whatsoever that they were stock-killers - and who were by no means bogans... just average folks who loved Huskies. They had six-foot fences, and thought their dogs were safely asleep in the yard all night. I find it very hard to believe that any husky would escape from a secure yard, kill everything they can get at, then silently return home without the owner knowing. If they have the desire to run and escape they won't come back home.
  14. It was a great weekend and bloody cold!!!!!! Good work CSDC. Donovan said it's his favourite trail so far. The boys loved it! And Onyx & Rune did well dragging my sad sick self around on the Sunday.
  15. Sorry K9 been at work all morning and buying my weekly dog food. Let me know if they contact you and what vets she is at. My mobile is with me now. Glad Luki is doing better. Fingers Crossed it continues.
  16. Rach can you PM me the DOB of all three of these guys. In particular Bailey if you can get it.
  17. If a dog eats the head of a brown snake is it still as toxic as if it was bitten?? I had 7 huskies out in the yard this afternoon and heard them all start barking and carrying on. My 2 girls were fighting and when I went in, it was over a brown snake. One of the dogs had killed it and it's head had been bitten off. This happened at about 4.30pm and I had the 2 girls in at the vets and they seem OK although they had some slow blood clotting which has improved. The snake was about a 1mtr long but it's width was only that of your thumb. It was definately a brown.
  18. You wouldn't be when your doing the daily poo pick up I spoke to someone at the Colac-Otway shire and you don't need a permit if in a rural area. As we are looking at a minimum of 10acres hopefully we should be alright.
  19. I am looking to move to VIC possibly in the next 12mths and this is a major concern as I have 9 dogs. I have heard that some shires are stricter than others.
  20. Rang the council. I was told their is no restrictions on domestic dog numbers but all must be registered ( obviously) and unless their are nuisance complaints we should have no issues. We are looking for acreage around 15mins out from Colac so not residential.
  21. We are looking to possibly move down that way from NSW in the next year so am wondering how the council is with dog regulations etc? In NSW their is no real restrictions on dog numbers but I believe it is different in Victoria.
