  1. Ditto. After losing Ricky to this just 12 months ago and knowing seveal people with young dogs going through treatment for it at the moment, I would not sit and wait a week. I would rather race in and be told it was nothing than wait a week and find that it had spread. Same here. I lost my girl, Miranda, to lymphoma three years ago. Luckily, I took her to the vet straight away, and we had 10 months with her instead of a few weeks. I am just so paranoid about lumps now.
  2. Ben had mucky eyes a few weeks ago. I got some Murine Sore Eyes from the chemist and they cleared up in a couple of days.
  3. I don't give chicken livers to the dogs, but we eat them - fried up with thyme and almond flakes, or as a pasta sauce with tomatoes, red wine, chilli and garlic. Yummo!
  4. Matilda has this problem too. She was also speyed at 8 weeks, as she was a pound rescue. She developed an incontinence problem when she was about 10 months old. My vet couldn't find anything physically wrong with her, but suggested it might be psychological, so she put her on a course of Pulsitilla drops. I also gave her Bladder biochemics (Schuessler Tissue Salts), and her problem improved dramatically. She still has the odd bout of bed wetting, for which we now give her 'anxiety' drops for a few days, until her problem is under control again. Since we can never be sure when her incontinence will recur, we now have her sleep in specially made diapers every night. Makes life much easier to deal with, for when those little accidents do happen. The Bladder biochemics are no longer in tablet form, but here is some info on the same product in a spray. Martin and Pleasance - Bladder 25ml Spray This homoeopathic medicine has been prepared by traditional methods for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with: * Incontinence * Urinary tract infection * Prostate disorders * Bed wetting Martin & Pleasance oral sprays are a lactose free homoeopathic formulation, prepared by traditional methods and created with the inclusion of Schuessler Tissue Salts. Homoeopathic formulations stimulate the body's own ability to assist in restoring natural equilibrium and health. This is the link for purchasing made to order diapers, if you're interested. http://www.lovemyfurbabies.com.au/Diapers.htm
  5. I buy from Cliff too. He doesn't come to Oberon, so I meet him in Bathurst. To make it worthwile, I get 120kg of chicken necks at a time - then spend a couple of hours in the garage dividing them up into two meal packs, before freezing. :D Last time I also got a couple of dozen big marrow bones - fantastic value, and some kangaroo mince and chicken mince. The roo mince was good, but I wouldn't get the chicken mince again.
  6. OMG! Belinda has just started raiding the litter tray. I can't believe so many others here have that problem too - I thought she was just wierd (not to mention gross).
  7. Hard to imagine that they would. We live about 10km from town and I've never heard of an animal getting baited there. Unfortunately, we have baits on the property straight across the road from us.
  8. We have it in our area as well. :D That is one reason why it is SO important to keep dogs contained within their own property in a rural area. Even so, there is the risk of foxes or birds carrying on to your property. My friend lost three of her dogs to 1080 only recently. It really is a horrible poison. If, dog forbid, you ever notice any of your dogs suffering from any of the above symptoms, rush them to vet ASAP.
  9. Hi Nell, I lost my beautiful border collie from lymphoma two and a half years ago. When she was diagnosed, our vet gave her no more than eight weeks (and that was optimistic). About a month after her diagnosis, in desperation I gave her a dose of Macrolone (a medication she had been on for a previous illness). The results were amazing - her lymph nodes disappeared totally within 48 hours. Combined alternately with various herbs, the Macrolone kept her lymphoma in check for many months. Eventually her body built up an immunity to the drug and it lost its effectiveness. Ten months after diagnoses she suffered a stroke and we had to put her to sleep. In those ten months she was still an active, happy dog with a healthy appetite. She wasn't in pain, she just aged very quickly. According to our vet, she was the only cancer dog she has ever known to put weight on! I kept a daily record of her treatment - let me know if you would like me to pm it to you.
  10. It sure looks like Shiva loves her Home Alone toy. :D Yeah, she really gets into it in that clip. It's hanging from our pear tree so for the last few months it's been out-of-action as I'm sure her vigorous tugging would have sent the pears tumbling down. Would have been quite funny to watch, but I'm sure getting clunked on the head with a couple of ripe pears would turn her off the toy pretty quickly. :D That's funny! When I watched the clip I didn't realize it was a pear tree, but I thought it would be a great way of picking the high fruit from an apple tree. ;)

  12. Glorybea, this is a good site to have a look at. http://www.pet-grub.com/appendixA/scene9.pets Pumpkin seed, when fed in larger doses is also known as a natural dewormer. Also, majority of dogs and cats really enjoy the nutty taste of the seeds.
  13. Glad to hear that. I can't stress more to people how important a raw meat diet is to their dog's well-being. Yep - just goes to show how much goodness they get from a natural diet. I'm sure your little fellow will be feeling much better soon.
  14. I had a BC who lost nearly all the pigment in her nose. It started out as a pink patch, then started to scab and spread. She had a biopsy done and was diagnosed with degenerative immune disorder. My vet put her on Macrolone tablets, plus Illium Neocort cream to rub on her nose. It took about two years - and got worse before it got better - but eventually she regained all the black pigmentation. BTW, another symptom of degenerative immune disorder is cracked pads, which can become quite painful.
