  1. I had my last litter done via this option and results were great! Now at nearly 1 yr of age, all bar two of the males have now been fully desexed and everyone is happy :)
  2. Yes thankyou for your input Liz, I was and am still annoyed... A friend has suggested rather than asking if there is a problem maybe I can email every so often a "helpful hints" sheet that is related to a particular common puppy problem ie. barking or chewing etc. Just so I am not pestering. But to be blamed for lack of support, no I don't think so, and for another breeder to condone her behaviour, that does not sit well with me. Shouldn't all breeders be pushing for resposible dog ownersip? Why tell her its ok to slack of and expect the dog to be a perfect citizen? It is the owners responsibiliy to put in the time and effort to train the dog right. I am here if neded. Now my ex-puppy owner is looking for another dog.....*sigh*....I guess some people cannot be helped. Grrrrrr!
  3. Hi all, I have been a breeder for many years now and am not new to assisting puppy peple with their training/feeding/grooming requests on pups they have purchased from me. Recently though I had my first "bounce-back" puppy who is now nearly 12mths old. The owner declared he had separation anxiety amongst other things, barking and destroying her house. I was not in the position to take the dog back but assisted her to rehome. During this time it was clearly established she had failed this dog - lack of training, socialisation and family inclusion and I told her so in no uncertain terms that it was not the dogs fault (like she claimed) but hers and I would assist her to try and solve them. Then this lady goes behind my back to another breeder asking if she will help to rehome him! This other breeder pats her on the back an tells her she did all she could and its best to find him a home than work the issus out - oh and that I failed her as a breeder by not providing support! Ummm I have an folder with emails every second week to this woman frequently asking if there was anything I could help with. She failed to ask for help, I am not to blame surely? So my question was, how much time to you spend making sure your puppy people are coping? Many don't have regular contact after a pup is purchased and I don't push the issue, I try to be a friend and there for them but I cannot force that relationship to occur. What does everyone else do?
  4. Oh Wow! That is a long way off Here's to finding a breeder who is happy with 30 days...
  5. Has there been any further word on importing regulations changing to 10 days? would love to know so I can get planning ;)
  6. I agree with Christina, I routinely do tubal ligations and vasectomies on my puppies before they leave and then new owners are to fully desex once pups are grown up. Remember there are two options - Complete desexing OR tubals and vasec.
  7. Liz there was seven boys and one girl, totally enough for me and especially for a first time mummy! :) We hope to keep the girl, but time will tell.
  8. The only girl in the litter. Eyes have cleared now and are blue/brown, will be totally brown by a few months.
  9. Our very first litter of Portuguese Water Dogs! Not our first litter as breeders but very very exciting :D I am able to spend lots of time with them as I work from home so its great to see their little temperaments forming and them learning to play etc. I can't get enough
  10. My beautifuls arrived on the 20th May so are now nearly four weeks of age! Time flies :D
  11. We are hopefully here for a litter of Portuguese Water dogs around the 23rd of May, very excited! :D
  12. Hi Kaffy, I am inbetween Mackay and Townsville. I have a quote from townsville from ANOTHER vet who will only do full speys for $220 - $260 (dogs and bitches respectively). But nothing yet on TL and V's...
  13. Thanks for the support guys! I am soooo just over the state of veterinary care up here, I am expected to pay $650 for a medium breed hip/elbow x-ray for scoring but the same in Brisbane is around $350?? Are you kidding me , I will travel to brisbane just to prove a point! C'mon! I'll have a holiday at the same time lol! ;)
  14. Missymoo, I have just finished a heated discussion with vet nurse up here who told me I was doing the wrong thing by the pups and the new owners. I have my reason with a rare breed - would you rather my breed contributes to the overpopulation and BYB? Apparently I am being irresponsible - *Sigh*.....end of conversation with her! Off to call some more vets in towns further away tomorrow...
  15. Ok so I have a litter planned and have decided that I would like have the puppies desexed before they leave me. After carefull research I am going for tubal ligations and vasectomies, however I cannot seem to find a vet in North Queensland who is prepared to help. Can anyone provide contact details for vets who are prepared to do juvenile desexing? I am prepared to travel. :)
  16. I previously bred cattle dogs and would agree with Pat Hastings quote. One of the biggest bitches in one litter sent to a pet home turned into a lithe athletic medium sized girl at 12mths Litter sister that I kept was medium sized as a pup - by 12mths she was top of the standard in height and weight for bitches and beautifully balanced. Have seen the same happen with dogs PLUS the complete opposite! Big pups ending us and coarse adults.....Cross your fingers and hope you make the right decision! Sorry if I was not any help
  17. Another Closasol user, no probs and I am in Nth QLD
  18. Classic - and yes have done that before too!!!
  19. Sounds like you are ready by looking for a puppy, your beloved will never be far from your heart. Even after four years I still get teary eyed for one of ours that passed early......you will always remember.
  20. Sorry to hear of your recent loss, hugs to you. I hope that day is far into the future for me and my family. Take care and best wishes....
  21. Get rid of the puppy pads Clean floors thoroughly Get a crate Take puppy out on lead and treat for elimination If she does not - crate and try again in 15 - 30mins time -- if she goes then she gets free range of the house for a while. Go out every hour or so inbetween - when inside WATCH her for behaviour that may indicate wanting to go. Ignore accidents in the house, clean up immediately and thoroughly, It just sound like some bad habits have been formed and not enough regularity.
  22. I agree it will be interesting to compare methods. I like the fact Pennhip can be used at a younger age, it is quite upsetting to go two years or so to discover a potential problem.
