XXX the call centre operator you spoke to is actually a volunteer. We are forced to rely heavily on volunteers and some of them simply don’t have the training of our paid staff.
Having said that, what he said is basically correct. We have one ambulance that has to cover an area from Caboolture to Beenleigh. As you can imagine this makes dealing with emergencies in different parts of Brisbane at the same time basically impossible. We have a 1300 ANIMAL emergency number that was set up so we put the caller in touch with the nearest wildlife carer. With domestic animals and livestock we try to enlist the help of the Police, the DPI or the Council. We simply don’t have the resources to attend to every animal in the greater Brisbane area. Sometimes those other agencies go out of their way to be helpful. At other times they don’t and this is particularly true of the BCC.
No doubt XXXX could have explained the situation much better but to be honest, unless the ambulance was close by (and it wasn’t) there was nothing we could have done.
We firmly believe that it’s the people who need licensing, not the animals.

Good on you for doing everything you could. I often wonder what the hell I'm supposed to do with a found animal after hours, it's not a simple matter of me just taking the animal home, i have 1 fearful dog and 1 fear agressive dog. The response above gives no indication of what the OP could/should have done different... Sad sad situation.

god i was crying reading that but laughing at the same time, although now firmly a 'dog' person, i first had cats... your tribute has made me realise why i loved them so much and how much i miss my 2 that have been at the bridge now for a long time... hope your heart is healing xoxo
-
however my boy doesn't do it very badly, just his front paws and for maybe 5? mins a day, always at night, when we're watching tv and the cats have a routine of cleaning themselves at the same time, each other too and sometimes the younger cat licks the dog on the head and neck. and he pulls out any dried grass or whatnot in coat if i haven't got to it yet that night. so with my boy i think it is a beahvioural thing. i think he saw, growing up, that the cats did it and it relaxed them, and so copied them-he has copied other behaviours from them, he swats at things like flies and moves around to follow the skylights (like sleeping/resting, not chasing) and he also, no matter where he is, comes and stands around when i do the washing, as do the cats-they love the AM radio and i think the hold out hope for the drier to be turned on as their beds are in the laundry and the drier warms up the room a bit!
i'd try washing them with an anti-fungal like quit itch first, or try calendula tea to soothe any irritated skin. if he is prone to ear infections then he might be prone to fungal infection in the moist area of the paw as well. make sure you dry his paws after walks if it has been at all damp and you might need to keep them cut pretty short.
re: the first paragraph, my boy does this too, always at night when we are chillaxing... and OT but the washing thing is hilarious... he waits in the laundry, then walks to the clothes line with me every time...
ive tried using malaseb but saw no difference in the licking... i always make sure his paws are dry and the never look inflamed or anything like that... but he is prone to ear infections but they always clear up quickly with tablets and drops...
I still think for corey though, it more a behaiviour thing...

I love them all too... what a cute little kitty I love love the 5th pic - the black and white shot of the paws... so cute
-
Bahahhaa, these photo's are fantastic, my dogs are too lazy to do zoomies :p
CrazyCresties - I love the 7th pic in your 1st post!!!
-
omg *squish* i love the 1st photo 2nd post and 2nd photo 5th post... to die for
-
Hi Danois, I agree with you completely. And can I just add that I think the attitude of some other people who think because Corey is only a little dog (6.5kgs) that he wont bite/lunge/possibly hurt their 'big dog' pisses me off too... Luckily my dog is under my control when we are out and about...
-
oh wow, they are gorgeous!!!
-
You do realise how tiny a properly bred pomeranian is? They aren't really a breed you can go cycling with.
Of course you can! ;)
PF, I beg to DIFFER. A pom bred by a registered breeder is TINY. Too TINY to be expected to gallop alongside someone on a bicycle.
;)
you are not being serious right???

Nic.B. That is a beautiful story and so wonderful Ray got to spend his last days with you. I can't imagine how hard it has been for you and I hope you and your family will soon heal your hearts, but never forget.
I saw this quote about dogs the other week "When I die, let it be as a pet, so someone will remember me" I find this quite sad, but happy at the same time, as we will never forget the fluffies we have lost.
I guess this story hits home with me as I got my 2 dogs kinda as oldies. Chloe was 7 and Corey was 9 and I have had them nearly 3 years now, hopefully with many more years to come yet.
Take care and sorry for the long post
xoxo

hi tlc, i sometimes give chloe just her kibble (artemis weight management) and the joint guard. I found she was leaving some in the bowl though and then wouldnt go back to lick it up - other nights are fine as she has breast chicken and sardines. I havent tried the liver treats but they sound good too...
here is where i get my joint guard from best price with postage i have found

I have never heard of giving goat's milk to a dog... might sound silly, but why goat's milk and not normal milk? (i have never given chloe milk before???)
Thanks so much for the link I will check it out. The vet said the tub I got was $90 he thought but I never seen the bill as I put it on my account so not quite sure of the price but will definatley look into getting it cheaper if I can.
I don't think putting it in with his dry will work as occasionally he leaves some and he is a slow eater and picks over every little bit.
No worries... it's definately cheaper than $90 even with postage Even my fatty Chloe wouldnt go back and she will eat almost ANYTHING, so I guess if your dog is a fussy eater you will need to 'diguise' it somehow... better he gets it into his system anyway you can... than not at all

Mine gets her Sasha'a Blend sprinkeld on her toast and vegemite.
;)
:D that's ok assuming her vegemite toast is a normal thing
Well it is now!
Have to admit I've done the toast thing too, but with peanut butter, and only when I really need to cos my Chloe is a bit of a fatty...

The short answer for me is that my dogs like both but tolerate goats milk better. Here's some stuff on the differences.
Getting RIGHT off topic, I'm a huge fan of goats milk soap too! ;)
Thanks so much PF - as usual your answer is so informative and helpful
I always see goats milk soap at the chemist really cheap... maybe ill give it a go now :D

:'( poor doggies

mine never have collars on at home, not worth the risk, i did leave the break away collars on them for a while but they just dont need them - there is no way they would ever get out of the yard (or want to... spoilt doggies).
here is a link for the break away collars:
http://www.twosmallpuppies.com.au/
they are good because you can still attach a lead through the 2 D links - but once the lead is off the clips 'pop off' without much force if they ever need it too

Awwww, what a little sweetie :p . I love the bum fluff shot of him running away, and the hi5 in the garden, and yawning (barking?) on the couch
Hope the little fella is OK

So glad the little boy is safe. I am disgusted by that comment about her dogs. I can't imagine the fear she was going through with her child being missing but that comment was so uncalled for. Makes me very sad...
