  1. yes you do. I totally agree with that statement. My gsd cannot eat raw and he cannot eat beef at all. So what would one suggest then - that I turn him into a vegan? He is on a mix or royal Canin, cooked human grade poultry and lamb plus Natues Gift and he is looking great.
  2. must say that I did like those snoozas but our mal used to tip her food out on it and along came baby Kayne - he could smell food so he chewed the futon. Now we have Yuki and anything not nailed done gets dumped in the pool.
  3. I feel your anger. Our place appears to be the public loo. Dogs crap in the yard and cats pissing on our verandah - spraying on my plants, shoes, etc.
  4. Jed, why not list your sizing. I for one, have heaps of things that I don't wear and will NEVER wear.
  5. Hi Jed. I do pop in regularly but haven't posted before this. A friend of mine was severely burnt in a house fire also so I can sort of understand the mental and physical pain. It is a difficult and long healing process - mental as well as stressful on the body. Those pressure garments are a bastard to remove and put on and it's bloody painful. I helped my friend out a few times as she has a couple of accidents whilst going to the loo. Her burns were down her legs, her bum, a bit on her chest and her arms, her hands and fingers.. We had some funny moments though and we certainly had to get over the embarrassing part of me seeing her butt. Like you, some grafts didn't take the first time so she went in again. She recovered. In time, so will you. Be strong, accept help when others offer and let time heal you. Use this time to indulge in all those little pleasures that you normally wouldn't allow yourself. Sending tonnes of healing vibes.
  6. If I had to read everything and take everything into consideration,my dogs would not eat - meats are contaminated with hormones, test vaccines, etc and vegies are covered in pesticides. Geez. we have to be realistic at some point. Same as with human consumption. Some families cannot afford to put meat on the table everyday for themselves, let alone their pets. IMO, a couple of tins a week is not going to kill them.
  7. I have never fed Kayne the beef variety but I do give him the chicken and he has had no side affects at all. I spoke to their ppl at the pet expo 2 years ago. With a dog like him that has had so many reactions to meat, I'm happy with this line. He needs a bit of variety and there's not much that I can feed him. There's no way in hell that I'd try any other tin food. The kangaroo does not go down too well though. (neither does it in the raw form) It's good to "wet" his kibble as he hates it dry
  8. 3rd from bottom - he looks like a little fox in that pic. 4th from top.. " what you aiming to do with that tongue of yours kiddo?" You have a beautiful fur family there
  9. I'd be upset also but sometimes, we have to take things with a grain of salt. The world is full of idiots with no tact, whether it be in the dog world or not. I was also a very proud owner of a "mongrel" (I hate that term. ) as are many other people on this forum. Someone has to adopt these animals. I think also ppl put way too much focus on "the breed" rather than the individuals temperament and what they bring to your family.
  10. the funny thing is that soft toys that are indoor toys only, seem to last for ever. Kayne will try to sneak off outside with one occasionally though and if it gets past me, it's destroyed in seconds. Apart from that, anything with legs is fare game here. They all grab a limb and pull. LOL
  11. I think I've gotten them one of those tuffies. It was a large purple octopus and it is stuffed with that white wadding. I know because my kids played tug-o-war with it. not that tough when big dogs play with them.LOL I got it on special for $25.00 but the ret on that thing was $87.00
  12. I have the large cuz for my 2 gsd. they've lasted over 7 months. That's pretty impressive with my 2. lol. they no longer float in the pool as well as they used to due to teeth holes but they are still in one piece. an eg of the ones i buy toy1 this one is brilliant. toy2
  13. my daughter's malamute does. She even howls in her sleep if there's an ambulance in the area. We don't mind during the day but at night, it sounds VERY loud
  14. I just think that kids should sleep in their own beds and same as with the dogs. Dogs are not little humans. I spend a shite load on my bed linen. Truth be told, I don't even like my OH in the bed. He leaves his hairs everywhere, he farts in bed, etc. LOL

  16. This is what my gut is telling me also. I may consider raw for the future (Thanks for all the info and advice Tomas!). Osca had his first good poo today on the chicken and rice. Hooray! So I'm pretty happy things are settling down but will keep him on it until I talk to the vet and do a bit more research. I think the probiotics have really helped. They werent cheap at $50 but it was cheaper than a vet's visit Thanks for all the advice everyone. Ive got a few brands of dry I can research now and will investigate feeding raw also. Ive learnt now that I should stick to one or the other and I won't give into them by giving them treats until we have had good progress on a food for a substantaial length of time. :p P.S Kayne's mum, I love the name Patou I'm sure things will settle down in time. I was SO happy when Kayne finally did a normal poo, that I took a photo of it. Believe me, I've been (or should that be Kayne's has) thru the ringer and I know what you're going thru. thank you. Patou is short for patrick in french. named after the dog OH's had aboard a navy ship.
  17. Well they have been on the cooked chicken and rice for the past few days on advice from the vet. So if I was going to switch to raw would I need to do it gradually? Also what about salmonella? Are dogs guts strong enough to cope with it? Personally, I wouldn't feed raw chicken at this stage. Best way to go - ask your vet. Go over some of the tips mentioned here and discuss it with him. Everyone can give you advice going by their past experiences but it all boils down to how your dog copes. It's trial and error.
  18. Thanks Kayne's Mum. They are just getting the chicken and rice and the probiotics for the moment. I'll do a bit a research on the hypo-allergenic formulas and see what I come up with. I have looked at the hills science in the past but looking at the ingredients I havent been too impressed, same with Royal Canin. It just seemed like a lot of fillers. Ill give the royal canin and hs another look. This is my feeling about Osca, He loves them but doesnt seem to do well on them. Where do you get the roo tail from? Maybe something I could give him once all this is sorted out. Thanks for the reccomendations It's not easy, that's for sure. What might suit one dog may not be good for another. I agree with you re Science Diet ID range.. Kayne did very poorly on it AND, it cannot be fed long term. RE roo meat. Kayne was ok for a little while then it all went haywire. So no more roo for him. But then even Patou, who has an iron gutt, cannot tolerate roo meat. weird!
  19. I would take them off the beef/ beef byproducts for starters and see what happens. A lot of dogs cannot digest beef and it also causes many allergic reactions. Cannot comment on your kibble as i've never tried it on Kayne (gsd)or Patou (toy poodle) Kayne was very sick as a pup and the only food he could keep down was Royal Canin Hypo allergenic. No meat at all. Dairy is not suitable for a lot of dogs so remove that from their diet also. Colic is a sign that 1. you are swapping/mixing their diet around too much or 2/ s/thing in their diet is having bad side affects on them. It took me many months to get Kayne on the right diet. Try going back to basics with no dairy, no beef, try steamed or boiled chicken. I wouldn't feed it raw at this stage. Science Diet have their ID range for problem dogs if you'd rather try that instead of Royal Canin. Start reading the ingredients on packaging to be sure you know what you're feeding your dog. Additives, preservatives, etc, can also upset their tummies. It's a lengthy process but one well worth doing for the dogs sake. good luck.
  20. I'm not a breeder nor expert so I can only go by my experience with our dog. Very head strong and has quite a jealous personality. I certainly would not recommend a mal for a first doggie owner (could put the owner off every owning another dog.lol) simply due to their stubborn streak and their "I'll do it when i feel like it" attitude. Grooming - it is a must.and a lot of it and owners should be prepared for a LOT of hair, everywhere, all the time. The mal is not a barking dog but will pick it up if it lives with another breed that does bark. Although a large dog, they do not deter strangers. They'll invite them in for a cuppa and cuddles. I would also strongly recommend no small animals around a mal. This is one breed that you really need to be loving but very firm with. Don't let the dog do certain things when it's young then make changes when the dog is older. It just won't work.
  21. it's bad isn't it LOL can we teach dogs to use our toilet?
  22. Hate it. no mater how often you wash the grass, it stinks. if it's a No2, it sticks to the grass. I don't have the $300, but the similar one that cost $200.
  23. My boy is the allergy king. LOL Cannot eat meat. Nor fish I had him on Royal Canin Hypoalergenic as it is fine to feed for long term whereas other elimination type foods shouldn't be fed long term. but READ the packets before feeding anything to your dog. you'd be amazed at the stuff they put in there. I have been told that dogs shouldn't eat potato (not sure if sweet potato is any different) because it is as harmful as onions, etc. BTW, nothing is cheap when dogs have allergies. I was buying organic chickens at one time @ nearly $25.00. IMO, those elimination diets are not always that effective. Say you trial beef.. all is good then you trial carrots... no reation. but then you put the 2 together and the dog reacts. And it CAN happen because foods on their own are fine but a combination of the 2 changes the constituents and affects the dog. So it all gets quite confusing. I found that doing my own research was helpful. And were you told that before you start the trials, the dogs has to be feeling better?? Kayne was on doses of antibacs, meds for the colitis, meds for the tummy cramping (he'd cry and moan due to the pain), Look into EPI. though I don't think it will be case for your staf Allergies will vary from one animal to the next and what was great for one dog could kill another sp be very careful about other peoples advice. Go to the vet without your dog. if he's a good vet, he should be prepared to help you and the visit won't cost you.
  24. our mal is cross-eyed. only problem been is that people laugh as not many have seen cross eyed dogs.
