  1. I won't be able to check until I'm back at work Monday morning, but I'll let you know :)
  2. Do you still need more? I'll see if I'm able to get hold of any through work.
  3. I wondered the same thing, and for this reason I no longer take time off work when I bring a new puppy home. They are expected to settle into the usual routine from day one; and they do so surprisingly well.
  4. In 4/5 year old, otherwise healthy dogs; personally I wouldn't bother.
  5. by doing that any habitat for insects/frogs/birds is gone forever.. Got photos? Thought of planting that area with an indigenous grass or something? Maybe put gravel down ..rake it, and weeds are dislodged . Really, just by laying weed matting below the rocks? This is the best pic I could find to show the type of rocks, although it covers a much larger area than what you can see in this shot. Oh and this photo was taken before the weeds took up residence - they are growing everywhere in this area now.
  6. Bugger... it's quite a large area (the entire fenced pool area, plus a wide strip along the front of the patio and a 3m x 3m area to the side). We have been weeding by hand, but it's very difficult to keep on top of. We live in a semi-rural area though and we love the wildlife and the frogs. OH is thinking of removing all the rocks, then laying weed matting and re-laying them. It's going to be a BIG project lol.
  7. We have weeds growing up through the decorative rocks surrounding our swimming pool, and OH is reluctant to use a weed killer for fear of harming the frogs that like to hang around in that area. Would RoundUp be safe to use?
  8. Just on the topic of hip scoring in JS, it's something that is done routinely in some of the Nordic countries and I'm not really sure why it's so uncommon in Australia. I have had two JS hip scored so far and my bitch will also be having hers done before I mate her next year.
  9. Aww this is one of my favourite threads, I love watching everyone's new show kids grow up throughout the year and enjoy reading about their many successes! Very cute, all the best with her My 2011 hopeful has absolutely exceeded all of my expectations, and will be having a very well deserved break in 2012. All going well I should have a new bundle of fluff ready to debut at the NYE shows
  10. My bitch has had 30 x class in group wins this year, and not one single certificate - I didn't even know they existed! As far as the new rules go - doesn't really bother me either way. It's impossible to please everyone.
  11. That is a very interesting statement to me. Have you (Or others in the vet industry, open question) seen many already vaccinated adult dogs come in with parvo? I have, in my time as a vet nurse, seen quite a lot of Parvo. And I can honestly say I've never, not once, ever seen an adult dog with Parvo. They have all been puppies and the vast majority of them un-vaccinated.
  12. The procedure is exactly the same, it just depends on the recovery and the individual dog as to what sort of result is achieved. I had my boy done, and stayed with him throughout the entire procedure - it's very simple. Two small pieces of tissue are removed and it is far less invasive than a spay or even a castrate. I kept my boy isolated and sedated during the 10-day recovery period and the result was excellent - no voice whatsoever. Dogs who are allowed to bark throughout recovery will often be left with a raspy, husky sounding bark.
  13. Give them a break, I really feel sorry for the general puppy-buying public sometimes with all these "unwritten rules" about purchasing a pedigree dog. The email was polite and concise...
  14. Six weeks hey, sounds dodgy to me. In a breed where hip scoring is the norm, I wouldn't breed a bitch who hadn't had hers done. What happens if the scores come back and they're crap... there's no point shutting the stable door once the horse has bolted.
  15. If you're using a top spot such as Frontline, it's best to avoid insecticidal shampoos. It might be worth switching to Comfortis and see how that goes, I've used it on my own dogs with great success after battling a really bad flea problem. As a vet nurse I'm yet to meet one single client who has switched to Comfortis and not been happy.
  16. If your vet uses the Nobivac C5, his 12-week shot will be his final puppy vaccination anyway
  17. Results from Beaudesert Kennel Club Champ Show tonight, Non-Sporting Group: BIG - Shih Tzu (Dallinger/Moore) RUBIG - Dally (Grant) Baby - Toy Poodle Minor - Shar Pei Puppy - Shih Tzu (Hawke) Junior - per RUIG Intermediate - per BIG Aust Bred - Jap Spitz (Houldsworth) Open - Jap Spitz (Watherston) Not sure on the other names sorry.
  18. This is standard practice, actually. Nothing unusual about it at all. Do you honestly believe that the vet actually wants you to take your dog home, wait for it to show 'severe' symptoms and then return for treatment in order for them to make more money out of you? Some people have a very strange grasp of reality... Old wives tale.
  19. That was the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo.
  20. +1 If the vet says they can't fit you in, so be it - if it were a genuine emergency I'm sure they'd make time.
  21. Yes sorry its still under going work. lm not a good at spelling but lm a tryer. Will get the spelling fix ASAP No probs, I just think that will help it to come across a bit more professional (not sure if that's the exact right word really but hopefully you get what I mean)
  22. Well you did ask for suggestions. Shade-mesh was suggested as a safer, effective alternative; and the illegality, cruelty and posed danger (to your dogs) of bird netting was highlighted. +1
  23. You can split a larger dose if you like, but the manufacturer does not recommend it. Technically it's off-label use, so any guarantee they make about their product would be voided if you chose to do so. Same goes for under-dosing them (eg giving the 11-22kg chew to a 25kg dog). Personally I'd just buy the 22-45kg size for both dogs.
  24. I don't mean to be rude, but it's quite poorly worded and there are lots of spelling mistakes.
