  1. Hello I am appealing on behalf of not for profit animal rescue organisation Animal Rescue Kensai ARK. Elizabeth Oliver founder of ARK has worked tirelessly to rescue and rehome animals in Japan for over 20 years. ARK has rescue shelters in Tokyo and Osaka. Elizabeth and her volunteers are unselfishly entering the disaster affected regions of the Sendai region to rescue pets left behind by owners who are either missing, dead or in evacuation centres. http://www.arkbark.net/?q=en/node/2901 ARK urgently requires donations of animal supplies, or donations via paypal. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1391988/The-British-woman-braving-Fukushima-radiation-zone-save-abandoned-quake-dogs.html As an Aussie residing in Kobe, near Osaka, I am also calling on donations of wool to be knitted or crocheted into blankets to prepare for the return of colder weather here in Japan. My mailing address in Kobe for direction donation of wool will be made available upon private message. We thank you very much for all assistance, support and help received, it is very much appreciated. Eileen
  2. Thank you Fifi, for your encouragement to potential breeders. We need all the advice and encouragement that is on offer. My babies are now about to turn 3 and I still do not feel at all ready to attempt my first litter. Perhaps in another 12 months I will feel that I am armed with enough knowledge and confidence to consider allowing a mating between my two wolfies. Even though I have had people remark to me (not wolfie people, thank goodness) that as they were both imported from UK and Ireland, with the associated expenses, we should at least make money out of them as soon as possible. Good luck to you becky ..your boxers are gorgeous.
  3. Hi, Any Wolfie results available ?? thank you
  4. totally agree with the straw idea, have used it for 12 months with no problems, as they have no interest in chewing through the cover to get to the straw. Just put it into a soft pillow case, for small doggies, or single doona bed cover for large dogs. there may be some spillage on the end of the linen case, but sew a zip into the end or use velco to seal the ends. the doggies snuggle into the straw bed and it will mould into a cosy bed with no problems, and it is easy to fluff again with a good shake, you can clean the cover and replace the straw as it will break down eventually. we also use the straw as mulch. We also tried the super expensive Xl snooza dog beds, my hounds destroyed them in one week.
  5. I totally agree with these comments. My breed club is exactly the same. I joined as a lover of the breed, eager to learn and was encouraged to join the club in a newsletter to join committee as 'the club may die out' if it doesn't have new blood. Well, of course I put my self out there to be a club committee member, tried to contribute, but apart from 3 or 4 people in the club and committee, everyone else either ignored me or put me down in emails when I tried to introduce new activities or events to help keep 'pet' only members of the club engaged and happy to rejoin the club. My advise to pet only people, don't bother joining breed clubs or trying to make a difference to help clubs to attract new members, as it won't get you anywhere.
  6. In my chosen breed, I would not even contemplate breeding until I have a full list of at least 10 buyers all well vetted and pre approved. It is rare to even see a litter advertised anywhere, even the Trading Post. How do breeders who have to advertise to sell puppies have adequate time to do all the necessary buyer checks ? It may be best to simply not breed unless you have adquate number of buyers ready to go, rather than advertise and create impulse puppy buying by the general public.
  7. after losing countless dog beds I have filled a single quilt cover with straw. sew the end up with twine to make sure it is secure. And as a bonus, you can put the broken down straw on the garden as mulch when it is flat and refill with fresh straw again
  8. Hi, I lived in a multi unit stata title Unit in St Kilda Rd with a small dog for 5 years. I also ensured that the Body Corp allowed pets before purchasing the unit and moving in. Each year prior to the AGM there was always one resident who wanted to move a motion that pets are no longer allowed in the building, and the response from the BC Committee was always to say that the motion, even if passed, would never hold up in court. :D Incidentally there were several very well known and respected legal eagles on our BC Committee who offered up their learned opinion. I do know that there are several buildings in the Melbourne CBD that will allow pets, however all will have some type of restriction on size, weight, access, allowed areas etc. Don't allow yourself to be bullied into submission or bluffed into backing down. Good luck
  9. I love my pet insurance! Took out a policy on my 5 month old giant breed puppy 2 months ago. Just had ortho surgery, due to accident, had a staple inserted in his ulna growth plate. total cost $2000. will receive 80% back after only paying 2 instalments. You never know what will happen in the future. Better to spend $40 a month on insurance than try to find thousands of dollars when your pet needs it most.
