  1. I've had Pointers for over 30 years........no 2 dogs the same........I have generally found males up to about 2 years can be finicky eaters, but saying that 2 of the 3 boys I currently have are total pigs.......you could always try the old school method of rewarding......a loving tone to your voice and a pat or scratch behind the ear, and when they have done something really good a big cuddle and happy voice saying how good they are.........Pointers like this, dogs in general want to work for you and would rather have your personal contact and acknowledgement
  2. Bahaha. No blade of grass is disturbed when a Pointer is in the ring eh? Hi, But what is even funnier.....is if the person who sprouts this dribble ever took their dogs out to work Quail.....the first thing you notice is the dogs run full tilt gallop, so lots of grass being disturbed.......and the only thing that frightens the Quail is when you almost step on them....LOL
  3. That Pointers should be high stepping.......so they dont disturb the grass and frighten the Quail.........mind you the Standard says....definately not hackneyed gaited
  4. Hi, One of the Dressage Clubs we compete at....gives a voucher for a free test at their next competition for a first place.........love these
  5. Hi, Agree with what has been said...for me the most importantly a Steward needs to be organised and pleasant ie if they can have the next class ready when the previous class is being judged, this makes things run quicker.....and be PATIENT, there is always confusion with change of handlers and dogs. And be especially PATIENT with new exhibitors........recently had to tell a Steward to be nice, this is a new exhibitor 2nd show......his crime was to leave the ring after CC was awarded, there was only 2 dogs in the line up......she started carrying on about where's the exhibit gone, why are you people so disorganised, the drama queen routine was totally uncalled for....this is when I said he's a new exhibitor her reply was 'well these new exhibitors need to be better organised' well karma got the Steward she then called the wrong numbers back for Res CC.......actually the treatment of new exhibitors is a whole different discussion and one of the reasons everyone should try to be pleasant....you just dont know who you are talking to
  6. Hi, Got a dumb question about this event.........how do you qualify and when you do, do you enter your dog or are you invited. Thanks PS Just seen the link to more info, that explains how you qualify.....but are you invited or do you just enter
  7. I use white vinegar, I also use this on my tile floors
  8. The initial bleeding split occured after she hit her tail on walls and doorways in my house with her enthusiastic wagging of a tail with a thin whippy end. Generally hitting it on things in her environment caused the hair to break/wear off first, and then without protection the split. She has since injured it up while training (retrieving), again in the house (mine and firends) and in a friends backyard. With Vizslas, the ideal length to prevent further tail injury generally is the previously docked length. I would certainly ask for a 1/4 off amputation if it came to it. I do know of at least one Vizsla who had to undergo two amputation surgeries because the vet was too conservative initially I doubt my vet would do an amputation on a dobermann to their traditional length for the same tail tip injury, but I'm sure some showies and breeders have found ones that do. and this isn't just a problem with Vizslas....can also happen to GSP, Weis, etc even Pointers who have always had a full length tail.......I have had a bitch that broke her tail (last 3 joints) very badly, doing the same thing
  9. No......because there is some leaway with the rules for tail accidents, and if the correct paperwork has been done......also there for a while it was legal to dock dogs in WA......but this has been changed now.
  10. Hi, Go to the DogsNSW website ........Members section, Regulations (you dont have to log in to see this) Part 1 Section 22 and Show Section 14.4, and there is probably another section covering application for registering a docked dog in the Registration Section as there is paperwork available in the forms section to do this.
  11. As I said earlier, The accusation has been made. Put up or shut up. Someone needs to be held accountable. For the action or for the accusation. The fact is there isn't any proof that people have been illegally docking, there haven't been a great number of charges laid and quite frankly I can't remember any ANKC exhibitor being charged, after the very first example hung out to dry years ago. So it looks to be nothing more than someone carting out their bucket of sour grapes and chucking it in the direction of the ANKC. Hi, There has been a couple of de-registered litters in the Gundog group within the last 2 years ......plus I regularly see Gundogs that have had their tails tipped and currently being shown, even in my breed........I quess unless ppl make an official complaint nothing will happen.......yes there are pups being legally docked in Gundogs, often the reason given is a tail accident.......must be a fair few clumsy dogs around. So why have these litters been "de-registered" ???? Because the docking didn't conform to the DogNSW Rules.

Also should have added, that in the UK, docked dogs are still allowed to compete in Field Trials, Obedience, Agility, etc and they are also still allowed to be shown providing the Club holding the show doesn't charge an admission fee to the general public
  13. I wonder if it's like when I lift the rubbish bin lid to drop a poo bag in there but forget to hold my breath. If I happen to be breathing in at the time I taste all the disgusting stuff that's already in the bin. Hi, Learn something new everyday.....this is interesting......having Pointers who are a scent breed, I often watch them hunting and sniffing, they will sniff the ground but the bred evolved to be air scenters when on the move......but what has always given me a good giggle, is there are some that say, the reason that a Pointer has a dish face is this is to hold the scent......I find this very strange as this would put the scent ontop of the muzzle and in front of the eyes.......I have run this by a few tracking friends who basically ROFL, and I was told that scent has to be in the nose, hence why Pointers have large, open noses....LOL....it's so funny how ppl get so set in their opinion
  14. I have a scanned copy of all this stuff on an external hard drive, another one with all the photos and videos on it.. Leave the computers and just take these. Hi, We have done that too....but also have hard copies, incase we cant get access to a computer......plus all our music is on another hard drive
  15. Hi, When doing your evacuation kit......have a folder with a copy (and they dont have to be current) of all your accounts eg electricity, rates, phone, water, bank, insurances, car rego, dog rego etc etc.....if you end up losing everything, you will have a ccopy of all your account numbers
  16. Hi, All you can do is check the RFS website or even give them a call, watch the weather and the wind.....if it's looking dicey and your not comfortable staying, leave with the kids and dogs....atleast your aware there are fires there.....half the people in my area didn't have a clue there was a fire.... even though it had beed reported on the radio and TV news
  17. Cant speak about floods......but do know about bush fires as I live in the Blue Mountains, and have lived here for nearly 30 years and have been through 3 fires now......if you choose to live in this area and dont make yourself familiar with where the fires track your asking for trouble, so many people live up here and move into this area and just have no clue, the info is available and you do have to be responsible for yourself, as there isn't going to be any warning.....reason being by the time the fire is definately coming your way it's too late. We know if fires start in the Grose Valley and if the weather is hot and the wind is in a certain direction.....we start to get our place ready....we have fire fighting pumps, tank water supply a roof sprinkler which runs around the entire perimeter of the house.....if the fires end up coming down as far as Faulconbride, thats the time I have in the past got my daughter and the dogs out but have come back to help the OH with defending the house. I also have horses, and I'm so grateful for the lousy ground and it's inability to grow decent pasture, as dirt doesn't burn and the paddocks are big enough that the horses wont be affected by radiated heat. What scares the horses the most is the water bombing helicopter. We have been caught once, with an unexpexted wind change, which meant I couldn't get the dogs out......so I crated the dogs in my lounge room.......yes I was scared but I'm calm in the face real trouble and I dont panic. Guess that comes from experience though. What absolutely staggered me was with the last fires that came through here in 2001.....so many people panicked at the last minute, and left their homes when the fire was only a km away, we only have one road in and out, this put them driving towards the fire and also into the path of the firefighters. There was a community meeting after this, what became apparent alot of these last minute panickers all said they didn't know there was a fire until they saw the smoke and why didn't the RFS ring them (WTF)......for me this was a classic example of head up your arse....as this fire had been raging for 2 days in the Grose Valley and with the prevailling weather was coming our way. I would do everything in my power to keep my dogs and family safe
  18. DONE !!!! I live in a bush fire area....this is very important to me
  19. Showpony, is this what you're alking about with the sleeping area? Wanderer Gazebo Hub Dome Tent - 3 person Looks great! Yep....thats it !!!!!
  20. Hi, I have 2 oztrail compacts ...one which is 4 years old and the other I won in a raffle last year.......there is not much difference between these 2 models, these are great light, small, easy to put up and if dropped down over night and pegged in very strong against wind........something I was shown lately which I thought was great if you camp, but need a 3m gazebo.....BCF do an enclosed lean two/sleeping area for their own brand gazebos but can be easlity attached to any other gazebo......they are fully enclosed with solid back, sides and floor with a fly screen zippered front....really easy to put up,
  21. He will be prone to sun burn and possibly skin cancer from repeated burning. You can manage that with screens or U.V fly masks, which would also protect his eyes. The eyes too are prone to damage from the sun from their extreme lack of pigment. Hi, Grey and White horses, can also end up with Melanoma in later life, from repeated sunburn/exposure to extreme UV
  22. Self Coloured Pointers.......require 1 self coloured parent........and any parti coloured Pointers who have a self coloured parent will never produce self colour (unless put to another self colour)
  23. We put a a soft check collar and lead on our dog and held this lead, as well as the collar that attaches to the Sprenger. We did this for the first few times we used it......keep the dog straight and didn't pull sideways.
  24. Hi, Go to the American Kennel Club website.....there is an explanation of their system......plus they also give you examples to then work out the points etc.....like a little test...LOL....but helps to understand how it works
