  1. Hi guys, my poor boy has developed this nasty thing on his nose, after some research I have come to the conclusion that it might be Lupus. Vet did a scrapping and is now treating it as a bacterial infection but I'm not quite so sure; we will see how he goes with his antibiotics over the next 2 weeks and If no improvement he will take a biopsy to check for Lupus.

    Anyone got any ideas?

  2. we have also had an unlucky June with our babies due to be born about 2-3 July but instead we had an emergency c section at 57 days in whelp due to bleeding; we opened her up to find a twisted uterus and 7 dead babies. We are lucky we still have her and her 4 surviving babies who were struggling the first few days but are all doing well now. breeding sucks sometimes. :(

  3. Hi guys, I have just moved to the gold coast and am getting all my 'dog stuff' organised. I have found out that you need a breeder permit up here to have a litter/entire bitch. I have only 1 entire bitch whom I don't plan on breeding for at least 2 years and I just don't think its worth getting it for just 1 bitch. Can anyone tell me what would happen if I don't get this permit and I have a litter in the future? Can they do anything about it? Does DOGS QLD require me to have this permit if I hold a prefix?

  4. I have a 5 week old litter of German Shepherd puppies who have decided to become fussy with there food. They have been weaning off mum more and more every day and the first night mum wasn't with them was when they started going fussy so much they started loosing abit of condition. I have been feeding puppy milk, soaked dry supercoat, mince and abit of sardines all blended together, making sure its nice and warm but they just arn't eating much of it. I tried tempting them today with supercoat canned food but they didn't want it...I'm kinda stuck on what do to to make them love to eat as I am not used to fussy eaters. Anything anyone can recommend?

  5. i agree with the above suggestions! I would be getting this young dog hip x-rayed by someone who actually knows what they are doing (someone the GSDC recommends)!...I have heard of vets diagnosing GSD puppies incorrectly. Did your brother get hip and elbow certificates for the parents?

  6. Our bitch is on day 60 of her pregnancy and I have been taking her temperature for the last couple of days but its doing my head in! Our vet recommended we take her temperature and as soon as we see that drop to about 36.5 we know we have 6-24 hrs etc although I have been told by a few experience breeders that the temperature drop isn't accurate and its hard to measure.

    We had on Saturday

    1:30pm - 37.6

    4:00pm - 37.9

    10.45pm - 37.2

    11:00pm - 37.5

    On Sunday

    10:00am - 37.6

    2:00pm - 37.5

    5.45pm - 38.4

    10:30 - 37.4

    On Monday

    8:30am - 37.0

    12:30pm - 37.6

    7:51pm - 37.4

    10:45pm - 37.1

    On Tuesday

    8:30am - 38.1

    12:30pm - 37.7

    5:45pm - 37.5

There was a drop to 37.0 Monday morning and then Monday night it was 37.1 but now it back to around 37.5...im guessing this means nothing?

  7. for my last litter I just used newspaper but I only had 2 pups. This time we are expecting a bigger litter and was wondering what i could use. How can you use fake grass or marine carpet? does this mean everytime a puppy wees or poos you change it?...wouldnt this be happening like 50 times a day?...or do you just change it daily and if so doesn't it stink out the house?

  8. in my last litter i used to have one puppy that used to cry alot, after a few days he felt a little swollen around his tummy so decided to see if he needed to go to the toilet, well he did the biggest poo and my partner looked at me like i was a sicko but after that he fell sound asleep. Found out after a few days he had a bit of constipation and mums licks just weren't enough so I had to toilet him everyday, if I didn't he would end up crying alot. The other pups in the litter were fine, he just needed some help for the first couple of weeks.

  9. our X-ray was about $120 I think at Monash Vet so not really that cheap but I like to know what i'm in for especially with being inexperienced when it comes to whelping. They do the x-rays awake...my girl just laid down on her side; its quick and easy!
