  1. Hi PRS - My Pug WolfyMaynard has just started doing this. He doesn't have any medical issues except excessive greed. Lately he has been gulping his food so quickly that he starts choking. Once he fell down on his side and passed out for a few seconds - he then jumped up and starting eating, still choking on the last piece of food. We have tried putting a plastic ball the size of a tennis ball in his bowl so he has to eat around it. That worked quite well until he started pushing the bowl around and smacking it into the Frenchies bowls. But that won't be an issue for you so I'd give it a try. Also the bowls mentioned above may work. Hope you find something as it is very distressing worrying about your die dying whilst they eat. Here are some links for bowls that may help: http://www.petsplus.com.au/pet-shop.asp?id=1437 http://www.dogpause.com.au/
  2. Thanks poodlefan! I hesitated to post because I have little experience with puppies. My advice would be better for when the pup is older. eta - spelling
  3. I also feed dry and raw in the same meal and have had no problems. I don't feed bones. My dogs are feed once a day and they get kibble topped up with kangaroo, vegetables and fruit most days. To mix things up I also give cooked chicken, raw beef, raw lamb, sardines, yoghurt, eggs etc. Our homeopathic vet has said that if you feed half or more of their daily requirement of kibble you should be fine and not need to worry about supplements. If you feed less then half kibble then you have to add supplements like calcium etc. While she would prefer we fed raw, she believes that if you are going to feed dry you should supplement with fresh meat, vege, fruit etc. She also has no problem doing this in the same meal. Ultimately it is the condition of our dogs that tells us we are on the right track. They visit their breeder regularly and she is very happy with how they look, their weight and their coats. Good on you for caring for your friend's pup. Hope they work out their feeding routine. ETA - I'm not sure if the half kibble ratio would work for a pup. I would veer towards feeding the prescribed amount of kibble and using raw as a top up. Just watch for weight gain.
  4. Two of my dogs have arthritic issues and they are on Joint Guard - although we are trying another product called Seaflex. They also have monthly Cartrophen injections which have helped enormously. One of them also gets Bowen Therapy and Acupuncture and these have been outstanding.

I have always felt that it is more do to with the Pug not reading the other dogs as well. I find that Pugs are very open to being attacked or told off by other dogs because they do not acknowledge the body language and behaviour of other dogs. Thank you so much for that insight PRS. I always thought it was because I have a rescue Pug that he was having so much trouble reading the behaviour of my Frenchies. I now realise it's because of the breed. This is something for others to be aware of when they are thinking of having Pugs with other breeds.
  6. Do you just feed kibble and nothing else? I used to mainly do that but after consulting with a naturopathic vet I now add a selection of raw or cooked meat, fish, fruit and veg etc to their kibble. My Frenchies still drink the same amount of water but my Pug has dramatically decreased the amount of water he drinks. I think it's because he is getting water via the fruit and veg. The Frenchies are just water hogs.
  7. Maybe post in the French Bulldog thread as there are breeders in there who may be able to help. Certainly get tests done but in the meantime, try a teaspoon of Slippery Elm powder in their food once a day - it may help keep something down. But a trip to the vet is the way to go.
  8. I have a male dog who is partially incontinent and lives mainly indoors. We tried everything to protect our furniture and his bedding but the house started to smell like a urinal. We've had great success with material we bought from Clark Rubber - the foam and pool supplies shop. It is water proof and water resistant and comes in black - our favourite colour. The best thing is it really only needs a wipe and it is clean and smell free. We have wrapped his mattress in the material and then placed it in a soft cover for comfort. When he has an accident we take the cover off, wipe down the material and put a new cover on. The mattress beneath is perfectly dry and odour free. Our couch is now draped in this material as are all of their beds that lie around the house. We just put blankets and mats over the material for their comfort and when accidents happen we simply change the covers. It's made a huge difference here.
  9. I don't know if this will work for you but when I had trouble getting a urine sample from one of my dogs I bought myself a cheap frying pan and used that. Felt like an idiot running around the yard with it but I got a sample. Use a funnel to get it into the sample container. And before anyone asks, frying pan and funnel have been put away with the dogs things in case I need to do it again. They are not used in the kitchen.
  10. Let me know if children works - I also have a dog with allergies.
  11. yeah- but she fattened them up, and fed them sugary things  her dogs may have got pancreatic problems !! She couldn't have been into BARF as she was going to cook them in her oven. Must have been one those dog owners who likes to cook their own meals for their dogs.
  12. Can please elaborate on this if you mean payments as in profits on food sold, yes this happens at Vets and any where else any product is sold. The only kick backs I have ever seen are the odd promo item, so I would love to hear more about this. Yes, I'd like to know more about this too.
  13. Liver is OK if eaten with fava beans and a nice drop of chianti thsthsthsths That's just disgusting. Who serves Chianti with liver? I always serve with a dry white.
