  1. I am sure she will be ok, I certainly have had some incidents with bones here too I try to give knuckle bones when i can get them but I do also give marrows. Only thing I was wondering is why she cannot be in the house with you which would be safer all around I love Aussies and am part of Aussie Rescue. anneh
  2. I am sorry to hear that your little boy has had to go through all this, cannot help re the elastoplast but would wearing a TheraPaw bootie help? Also could you please tell me symptoms. My adopted 8yo dog dx with a horrible auto immune disease has something wrong with one of her paws, the toe joint is swollen and strange looking and sometimes she limps. They took a cytology sample which showed no infection but they thought possible joint inflammation related to her auto immune disease. My holistic vet took another sample yesterday for a culture to be done just to rule out any possible infection which I assume would have been caused by something getting up in the paw. She does have a strange miniscule circular area on that paw pad but it shows no sign of any recent invasion into the pad. Just wondering how you found out about the spear grass seed? Thanks anneh
  3. Hi, I saw this thread and perhaps you could advise me. My dog was dx with an auto immune disease (IMPA) early April and put on high prednisone and now they are weaning it down. They added cyclosporine to help but it didn't do any good and the other drug they use sometimes (Imuran) they are hesitant to use unless she relapses because her liver values are slipping . I wanted to start adding supplements that will kick in and take over BUT I understand its dangerous to add anything that stimulates the immune system with an immune compromised dog. Would the Transfer Factor be safe for her and also a product called Moducare looks good. I have her on Milk Thistle and Denosyl plus I make her food so concentrating on liver friendly diet. Thanks for any help anneh name='AngelSoul' date='9th Jul 2008 - 09:16 AM' post='2821580'] Have seen something very similiar. It will take months to gradually wean him off the macrolene, so that he doesn't relapse or develop symptoms until his system is able to 'kick' in and handle the problem, or heal itself, so to speak. I would ask your vet about putting him on an immune building supplement that won't affect his medication, like Bovine Colostrum, such as Transfer Factor. It might support his immune system during this time of stress. Good Luck.
  4. I can help on this topic. My adopted dog got sarcoptic mange last year from running in my fields where I know we have fox. I also got it on my abdomen because he sleeps in my bed but the dog scabies ARE different to human and they do NOT live long on humans, I did use a lotion on that area to eradicate them on me quickly. In the meantime my holistic vet gave him oral ivermectin weekly (ts not necessary to inject them) and in the meantime I also found out that topical use of Revolution (selamectin is I believe the other name for it) that is used here in the USA for fleas/ticks etc by some peoplel is great for eliminating the sm mites, lots of greyhound people prefer it to ivermectin or if you have a herding dog and ivermectin CANNOT be used in them. If he ever got it again thats what I would use. I also used bathed him in a neem shampoo with a neem rinse and put a lavender/neem mix on itchy areas. He is fine now, I did give him Milk Thistle herb for a month along with his raw diet to help his body recuperate from the meds. I did not want to use any chemical dips and they are unnecessary with either of the above treatments. Some people btw mentioned that they put the topical Revolution (it goes in one spot near the shoulder blades) on all their dogs to prevent it spreading, at that point I only had him to worry about. anneh
  5. Danois thank you so much for responding, glad to hear your Angus is still doing well. I will know next Tuesday if specialist wants to switch to Imuran, if you have had no big issue with it perhaps I will give it a try and will let you know how its going. Garloch, we also have tried other means of dealing with this horrible disease. We use a holistic vet and all other ideas were tried prior to starting the steroids. I titer instead of vaccinating (btw no more vaccines ever for this little girl, we are in the USA so we got a rabies vaccine waiver as she was due this year) and make my own dog food. We still go and get acupuncture and chinese herbals to support her system. The choice was either pts to go down this path. I know its hard for people to understand, I have never used drugs like these on any of my dogs, I always have used alternative methods and successfully I might add so I think this is why my heart is so heavy with fear and grief over this situation anneh.
  6. Hi, I just joined the forum and saw your posts re IMPA (I do hope Angus is ok). I am in a quandary because I adopted an 8yo little dog last summer and she started having high fever bouts (and had all sorts of tests done for infectious diseases which were negative) and finally culminating to having bouts with obvious body pain also. We went to specialists for spinal/joint taps and dx is IMPA. They put her on steroids early April and when that alone didn't do the job they added cyclosporine. We go back next week and if there isn't more improvement when they examine her they want to switch her to Imuran instead of the cyclo, the goal being to start being able to lower the prednisone. In the meantime I am worried to death about giving these horrible drugs to her, I already see they are taking a toll on her little body. I am wondering if I should have let her go peacefully instead of going down this path :p . I do make her food myself and giving her supplements to help her. I joined an auto immune forum and seemed like all the dogs either died of the IMPA or something associated with the medications Thanks for any input, I love her so much and after having a horrible, hard life she is finally in a loving furever home and now this has to happen to her anneh
