  1. Thanks folks, managed to find it on ebay.
  2. Folks, i'm trying to find a bob a lot toy in Melbourne - tried a few shops in south east melbourne without any success. Has anyone bought one recently? Thanks David
  3. Folks, our 6 month y/o staffy has recently developed some kind of behavioral problem. He normally sits on his chair when we watch tv during the evening and would quite comfortably do this. However, on 2 - 3 occasions now he runs behind the sofa or into the spare room and under the bed (tight spaces) and would bark aggressively at us. We have told him off "bad boy" and tried to pull him out but he would attack us and bitten us on two occasions. Instantly we have taken him to the back part of the house were he stays (unattended) and either lock him up in the crate or just leave him alone. What should we do? Is locking him in the crate (20 minutes) or so the right thing to do? Or anything we are missing that he is signaling to us?
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSUscXIflD0 If anyone has a chance - can you please view the video footage and please comment on his walk. *extremely worried* David
  5. Guys, took my 12 week old staffy to the park for a walk today - and had 2 - 3 people comment about the legs on my dog if he was ok? He doesn't struggle when walking and is able to run, but his rear legs look weaker then the front and not as developed. When we bought him from the breeder 3 weeks ago, we thought the same and she assured us that he would grow out of it and it was because he was still a puppy. We didn't think about it again, until we took him to the park today. Its hard to explain, the rear legs are a bit wide spread and the walk is a little clumsy. Any thoughts, or recommendations on Vets in Melbourne that can accurately diagnose what it could be. David
  6. Hi guys, thanks for your responses. I didn't intend to start a flame war and perhaps should of left names out of the topic. Anyway, i'm just wary of those *upmarket* clubs/classes targetted purely for profit basis. I hear what you guys are saying you get what you pay for, but i guess i'm one of those that once bitten twice shy type.
  7. Folks, was after opinions for starting a 10 week staffy for training, i've basically narrowed it down to two particular ones of interest to me. Eastern Suburbs Obedience Dog Club Underdog training I'm in Caulfield, my heart says underdog since its in Ormond and 5 minutes away - but my wallet says ESODC since its only $50 for yearly training compared to potentionally $400+ with Underdog training (its 20 minutes away though). Does anyone have any recommendations on what other schools are available, and experiences with them. I wish my decisions didn't have to be based on my wallet, but I don't want to neglect my dog either with abusive training.
  8. excuse my stupidity but what are the problems associated with it leaving the litter/mother at this age?
  9. I have enquired about a nice looking staffy, however am concerned about the age the seller is passing it onto me at 6 weeks old. Should i be alarmed, he said the VCA recommends 8 weeks, but 6 weeks will be ok. Thoughts? I'm due to have a look tomorrow morning.
  10. Just out of curisity, how much do basic obedience classes start from?
  11. Thanks for the help guys, i have decided to give this one a miss... the painful wait of finding the right pup is killing me (been looking for over a month) I asked her about the eye testing last night, and she told me essentially that 'we don't do eye testing', it wasn't the fact that she didn't. But the tone of her voice... i'm glad i held back. Obviously if i'm paying good money ($800~) for a pup, i would like to be assured that the dog comes from a healthy background. However, can someone comment on what i should be expecting as a bare minimium (or rank level of important of the below) L2-Hga HC Hip Dysplasia I'm assuming that the other defects such as Persistent Hyperplastic Primary Vitreous (PHPV), Ectropion can not be really tested. But just a case of good genetics? Sorry about the endless questions, but i feel the need to ask.
  12. I think i'm being taken for a ride, but the other night i was speaking to a breeder and i asked her why she was selling the females more then the males ($750) as opposed to $650. She was a bit cocky about the whole thing, and stated that females were more 'worthy' and capable of breeding. ie they hold the babies - so they are more assorted. I'm not into the whole breeding thing.. but made me think twice about buying from her. Is there any truth behind this statement? David
  13. Hey guys, yeh your answers are on par with what i was thinking.... far too cruel to be living in there for such a long time. I have a component to the side of the house which i will be fencing off (away from the wind and insulated) for the pup when i'm at work. But will sleep inside (crate) when i'm sleeping and will roam free when i'm at home within reason. Thanks in advance for the replies.
  14. I wouldn't leave him crated for that long either. If I am out for more than an hour or two I generally leave my puppy in his room, which is the room we nomally crate him in at night. He has toys in there and his crate is left open for him to come and go. If you don't have a puppy safe room to use, you can use a puppy pen, make sure you put it on an easy to clean floor. So can anyone answer my question, if i dont'setup a pen inside or outside when i'm at work and i just leave him inside the crate for 10 hours a day. Would he not go insane or batty??? I know for sure I would...
  15. Correct me if i'm wrong, so you guys are saying you crate the pup when you are out during the day? As im' at work from 7-5, and it seems a little cruel leave him in there for so long..... and not to mention sleeping in there.
