  1. Yes, later he then showed more signs of the pancreatitis, he used to chase his feet, Sorry this is so hard for me and should not have come on this site, he live to 17 and half despite all he went through and we lost him this year. His toe nails starting splitting 4 years ago so please dont worry, I just wanted to say to get a culture test done as it will let you know what is going on. The diet will take time to tell and maybe you need a different solution before then. I wish you all the best.
  2. Hi just letting you know our experience, our little one started with this and developed into more of them splitting and getting worse we ended up going to a specialist who took a culture from under his nails and discovered this was from pancreatitas (hope spelling is right) a low fat diet was then put in place, plus other things. Please understand that this did not cure the nails that were already damaged but stopped the others from going that way. Maybe this is something for you to look at, but from experience no matter how much you trust and love your vet get a second, third opinion and all good vets will recommend you to do this and not recomend someone, its up to you. It costs money but they are worth it.
  3. Our hearts are with you 17 years for us is a life but them being gone after such a short time is unjust the key board will never express the feelings and hugs I would like to pass on to you. Thoughts are with you.
  4. Thank you all its nice to know that he has some more friends
  5. We are posting here today to say farewell to our baby Jake, he was 17 and half years young and his little heart was as strong as Farlaps but his poor little body couldnt keep up, he has struggled the last couple of months and still kept us bemused at the way he was able to escape in the places that we tried to keep him safe some thing he has done ever since he was a puppy ala his nick name houndini! We miss him so much but knowing that he is now in no pain has all his teeth again and with his brother Troy who we lost last april. We are lost and broken but we know he is stealing all the toys and spoilng everyones fun until he has had enough rest. Rest now Jake we love you. Mum and Dad
  6. Thank you but I feel sometimes I just want to go and join him now. Its been 6 weeks this Friday and it doesnt feel like it gets any easier
  7. Just wondering Ricey as when I was trained to bath my dogs I was shown how to do the anal glands as gross as it is I thought this being normal bath time. I have only ever done my own dogs but thought this subject would of brought out all the dog owners I know its bad but I have seen worse things on this forum.
  8. My thoughts are going out to you and big hugs Still over our loss I wish it would get easier but after reading all these threads it seems it doesnt and accepting and allowing the emotions to flow are the only way to go.
  9. Our thoughts are with you in these hard times. Their eyes are the hardest and I really dont know what else to write only that I wish we were all closer so we could be around one another. You are with us in thoughts and sending you lots of very warm cuddles.
  10. Thank you all but it doesnt stop the tears or the empty lost feeling. We still have his brother who is the same age but we are all just wondering around not knowing what to do. I know only time will heal but its so hard
  11. Just wanted to say thank you to the people that helped with advice for our little Troy with the prednil. Sadly Troy was PTS today after lots of problems with his liver and then ulcers in his mouth. RIP Troy
  12. My heart, thoughts and love go out to you, big hugs going your way
  13. Thank you every one, we were back at the vets again this morning and have now put him on antibiotics as it seems he has tummy problems again. We are not giving him any more prednil so its back on the rymadol. We have now just applied for more leave so that we can stay home with him. Just hoping to see some sort of improvement.
  14. sorry to bring this topic to the top again but after talks with the vet and bringing the medication down and then not giving him one for a day he is miserable. He really is in a bad way. Is this normal? It is so frustrating as I know this medication is not good for him but to see him like this.... its not good! The plan was to leave it for a day and then give him half on the next a days break and then half again but the poor little guy cant go through this every second day. We will be going to the vets on Tuesday unless things dont look up but ahhhhhhh! I so wish they could talk.
