  1. Thx everyone. Monash were$125. I think I will just go to my local vet who was $65 to confirm pregnancy and do the X-ray for numbers just before she's about to drop at Monash. This is her 2nd litter but I couldnt remember at what dayI had Monash do the U/S last time Reason I was getting prices was because when I vaccinated and chipped the last litter I had prices from $750 - $1007 and thx to the help from the wise dolers here I was directed to Chirnside Park and had all 10 pups c3 and chipped for $453
  2. Jett had a surgical AI on the 27th January so is due 31st March approx. have to wait til next week to confirm pregnancy......I soooooo hate the waiting game
  3. What vet in Melbourne do you use and what do you pay? If you don't mind me asking. Have 4 quotes ranging from $97- $125 incl short consult. Also what dat after mating/AI do you take your bitch in. She had surgical AI 3 weeks ago today. I was thinking Tuesday next week which would make it at day 25. Is that too soon or should I wait for day 28? Thx Trina
  4. Don't get a Rottweiler if ; You give up easily, they will walk all over you, they are stubborn and need an effective leader You want a dog who will be happy to sit in the backyard all day, they are a dog who needs to be part of the family environment You want a guard dog, it's YOUR job to protect them.... Get an alarm if you want to protect your home
  5. Don't get a Rottweiler if you want to sit on a chair by yourself......they are lapdogs
  6. Me too, also wondering what happened to the dog....
  7. That was so heartbreaking  the unconditional love of a dog. One of the most touching videos I've ever seen but gawd now I'm in tears
  8. Well said Anne and that goes for quite a few breeds.
  9. So sorry for your dog, hope it will be ok. Am not excusing the aggressive dogs behaviour, but this situation wouldn't have happened if your dog had been restrained. I would definitely report the dog, however, as it was partly your fault by allowing your dog to 'charge' (that's probably how the other dog saw it) the other dog, I think you should pay for your own vet bills. please do not go about saying the dog was a pittull, as you said yourself you don't know for certain the breed of the dog, please just call it a cross bred dog. PittBull, Rottweiler etc get blamed because people assume that's what they are because of how the look and it's hurting our breeds. Thank you
  10. No I agree, you shouldn't have to child proof it. Dog proofing is usually enough to keep a small child out. Well given that I have a very gregarious and athletic Stafford that I manage to keep quite comfortably and safely at home, one would think that my yard is essentially dog proof. I'm certainly not in a position to make any great changes to my yard as it is now (fully fenced front and rear - separated with secure gates so even if front gate is left open the dogs are still completely contained, regulation height fences and gates, padlocks where possible, chains and metal bars where not possible). If my neighbours cannot keep their child in their yard, then that's their problem UNTIL that child comes into my yard and then I get pretty sh*tty! And that's the crux of this whole thread. The neighbours need to take some responsibility in childproofing their back yard, supervising their child adequately and if they can't do that, they need to teach the child that it shouldn't go into a backyard with strange dogs without permission and they could perhaps feed it fresh fruit once in a while so it doesn't have to resort to hunting and gathering for itself....... Yes the neighbours need to watch their child and educate him about entering someones property without permission, regardless of whether they have a dog. Our neighbours child where we used o live would just walk into peoples houses without knocking imagine walking into he wrong persons house.....
  11. About 2001 my hubby used to work from home. He had his apprentice there washing his cars getting them ready for the next day at work. Hubby and I were somewhere else (possibly bank?). When we got home I saw his 3 year old daughter there in my backyard with my 2 Rottweilers. I went absolutely ballistic at the apprentice! My dogs were fine with kids but that's beside the point. His daughter was in the backyard and he was in the front yard (driveway under carport) with a fence separating them. For a start, his child should not have been there and seconly she should not have been in the yard with my dogs (who she didn't know). I was so angry at him, not only could his child have been mauled (licked to death more like it), but he could have potentially put my dogs in harms way by them biting her and having to be destroyed. I was so angry I was shaking! he didn't get it. Hubby told him in no uncertain terms that no one is to go into our backyard without ether of us being there. It still angers me hen I think about it
  12. What kind of idiot tries to kiss a strange dog!!! I mean seriously, who in their right mind does that?
  13. Sorry I maybe dumb but i would presume that breeding with a bitch with grade 3 patelas would not make carrying a litter any easier for her. The added strain of carrying a litter could not possibly be in HER best interests Still with all of your rationale that you've posted I really just don't get it. If you want colours so badly why not import a sound bitch? Yes you mention the lines, but where did her grade 3 patelas from, must hav been somewhere in her lines. Unfortunately the ANKC could care less about breeding with poor examples of the breed and as long as the state kennel club get revenue from litter registrations this kind of breeding will continue
  14. Just out of curiosity..... Does your breed club not have a health scheme that you need to adhere to? . For example, my state breed club has a maximum combined HD score of 20, breeding with anything over 20 constitutes a serious breech. We are doing our best to reduce the hip scores and therefore potentially lessening hip displaysia in the Rottweiler. This can only improve the breed. I cannot understand how breeding with 3:3 patellas is doing anything to better the breed, regardless of the colours t will bring you. Why not wait and import a structurally and temperamentally sound bitch to use the health and well being of the dog and its potential offspring is the most important consideration when breeding. I could not willingly place any puppy into someone else's care to raise knowing very well that this hereditary condition could cause a pup pain. I'm sorry but I just don't get your rationale Eta I don't mean to sound condescending or judgemental, I just don't undderstand
  15. Def NOT the Altegra one, it's awesome but OMG it's so heavy!! Z trail s great, compact, light and easy to erect by yourself. I only ave my Altegra but am wanting on oz trail
  16. JETT - aka girlfriend, Jettson, George (from cartoon jettsons), jettels, jettlebum, bitch face, skanky bitch, ruffy and ruffguts BANDIT - Bubba, Bam Bam, Bamie, Bubbaliscious, delishious balishus, NOVA - Novie, Scosh (as in nova scotia), puppieeeeeeee, And they come to all their names
  17. I have used VAN on and off for over a year with my 3 Rottweilers. When Jett had her puppies I introduced VAN to the diets of the puppies and my dogs. Very simple to use, but because I can be forgetful I make mine up in large batches and freeze - ie: 14 cups of VAN, 14 cups of water (soaked in laundry in a few bowls for 24hrs). The next day I add 20kg of beef, the per-soaked VAN and I add 1 tub of natural yoghurt and a few cans of sardines and some pasta and mix it through thoroughly. I freeze these in zip lock bags (1kg per bag) and feed 1kg divided up between my 3 dogs together with 1 cup of Artemis as I am too scared to go completely raw. I was also adding vitamized veggies, olive oil and gg yoke (+shells) and now i find out I didn't have to add the veggies  . They were also getting 1 or 2 chicken frames each. This was costing me a small fortune. I am still scared of feeding complete raw so if I do the above minus the pasta and veggies (still using yoghurt and sardines) and feed with 1 cup each of Artemis will that be ok?
  18. So you want to potentially breed this pup.....did you know that over a 6 year period 1 female dog + 1 male dog + their offspring can produce 67,000 puppies!! But that's okay, you just want to continue 'the line' a line that breeder has put her blood sweat and tears into it, but that's okay, this is for you. You just want a puppy. What about the other puppies that eventuate out of a mating, maybe the people want to do the same as you and so on and so forth, that's how 67,000 puppies are born. Yes we all started out somewhere but you just have to be aware of what breeding involves. Are you willing to take on an 8 year old dog you bred because she's too old, we re moving, we have a child, she's sick, etc etc? Did you know that in the US 25% of dogs in shelters are purebred, that over half of the healthy animals in shelters are euthanised because there are just not enough homes? Breeding is so much more than wanting a puppy from my "extra pecial beautiful dogs" I think the breeders offer was reasonable, she reduced the price and even offered to give you cash back IF she chooses to use him in her breeding program, chances are she wouldn't unless he was a spectacular example of the breed and passed all health clearances required to breed with a Staffordshire Bull Terrior. Just some food for thought :)
  19. A Rottie member in QLD oes herding with her Rottweilers, we aso have a FB page called Herding and the Rottweiler. Feel free to join that page and ask Marianne where she goes Have fun, it's awesome seeing your dogs "get it" :D
  20. Good idea Kadbury. Pawprints, hope your friend will be okay and the the owners of the attacking dog are caught. Mace, the dog could possibly have been on a retractable lead, do you expect people to walk on the otherside of the road, really
