  1. Fletcher and I had tonnes of fun at Benalla! Getting compleeeeetely drenched on Friday, muggy muggy muggy on Saturday and completely cooking today, Australia can certainly throw out some interesting weather.

Congrats Angelsun on taking out THREE Minor Puppy in Groups!

We brought home some fringies, wooo! RUBIG / Aust Bred in Group today

  2. Wow I can't believe so many people are able to get up at 6am etc... The extra time sounds so lovely in theory, but in practice I just cannot get my hand off the snooze button... I always get out of bed an hour before I have to be somewhere.. whether that's 6am or 10am :cheer:

My dogs have no routine whatsoever, both my OH and I work shift work. Every spare moment when we're not at work is spent with the dogs (pretty much) as they are inside with us. (when working night shift, Fletcher also comes to work with me!) when they're having their walks at whatever time of day they happen to be having it, or while we're sitting watching tv, they are there with us. Days off are spent at dog shows, dog obedience, or therapy dog outings... read: I do everything with my dogs.

For the times when they are left alone for a large length of time they are perfectly fine, i guess because they are used to the 'randomness' of our routine. We check in regularly with neighbours re barking and they never hear a thing.

  3. What's wrong with Bindiis!! Hehehe.

I think professional grooming scissors would be best for accuracy, but clippers are clippers as far as I know! I don't clip my boy, I just comb out bindis after a walk. Just don't clip the whole coat

  4. Okay that makes a lot of sense actually!

I agree that submissive isn't necassarilly fearful - as dominant doesn't necasserilly mean agression- does it!

Shy and timid are very similar and perhaps in it's original language there was a word that described the difference better. But I absoloutely get what you are saying about the words in the standard not existing purely on their own. I have also never looked at submissive as the happy-go-lucky, perhaps 'goofy' way of the Lappie but can see now how that is a suitable description for that characteristic.

Thanks Armahani and happy birthday! :)

  5. I've come across that before and wondered what the difference between 'submissive to some people' or bitches being shy to not being timid.

How can a dog/bitch be submissive or shy without that also being timid? I thought all of those were really the same thing - particularly shy and timid - that it is a lack of self confidence and both, I believe, would be displayed in a dog in the same way.

So do you think it's ok for a Lappie to look wary and perhaps duck away from you as you pat it due to the lines in this guide that suggests it's ok to be submissive or shy, or do you see it as a fault due to the line which states they should never be timid?

  6. **thinking of you**

As it has been said already many dogs have survived with this kind of treatment. In fact, I have seen many dogs get very very sick, bleeding from their toe nails etc and still recover with this treatment (and blood transfusions to start with) The fact that you have discovered that they have eaten it and have them on Vit K already is a really positive thing. I'm not going to pray for a miracle because they SHOULD survive, it shouldn't be a miracle, it should be what happens, stay positive, get through this little babies ... and I will pray for that!!

  7. I voted no to both.

To be honest, I'd be a bit offended if someone did that to 'help' my dog get it's title. My dog got his title recently, there is a close-to unbeatable dog in my breed at the moment and we had to beat him to get it but it makes it all the more special!

However, when friends and I go away to shows - interstate or country shows, when we suspect we may be the only Samoyeds there or only a few, we will make sure that our dogs are in different classes so that we don't knock each other out of the challenge/group. I don't think that is uncommon though?

  8. I have finally entered Alera in some shows. Still about a month until she starts so I hope we are ready by then.

:) Which is the first show? Very exciting stuff!!! Look forward to seeing you and your little ladies :swear:

I'm sort of a newbie, been going to shows for about 20 years now and handling for or watching mum and dad, but have just got a dog of my own to show.

Tell you what, it's pretty nerve racking when it's your own dog on the end of the lead and not someone elses :swear:

Shaar, I completely agree! Now i didn't grow up in showing or anything, but when I'm occasionally handed the lead for someone else I am so much more relaxed and while when you're awarded with something nice you are pleased to have helped out a friend, it is no where near the feeling of when it is your own.... nor are the nerves!

At the Melbourne Royal last Thursday Fletcher was awarded 1st Intermediate Dog and Reserve Dog Challenge - super excited as there were over 70 entries! He's all bathed and excited again now because tomorrow it's Puppy Sweepstakes day! (which we qualified for back in January when he was a puppy :swear: )

Here he is being a good boy (particularly compared to how he reacted last year on the fake grass!)

And afterward with his ribbons and things :swear:

And.. just cos... Fletcher and Hugo showing their colours!

  9. SAMOYED

    05 Intermediate Dog

1 Miss B Dunn: SNERZOK JEDI FLETCHER

    51S Reserve Challenge Dog

1 Miss B Dunn: SNERZOK JEDI FLETCHER

    Brag Alert!

 So proud of my boy today! He made up for last year, he was a Puppy and thought the fake turf was HILARIOUS... he bounced and dug at it and didn't put one foot in the right place.. It was also probably only our 4th or 5th show, so being the Royal I think i was probably a bit nervous too. This year he pulled himself together and was totally focused and showed like a star... with an entry of 76 Samoyeds, and at only 20 months of age, I was super impressed with his results!

Edit: Haha, just saw Lagacee's similar post above! Congratulations!!

  10. I'm pretty sure it actually depends on the brand of the drug being used, some say three all up, others say just the two - that they work early enough to not need that extra injection (magical science stuff)

Some vets use brands that only need two but do three so as not to lose the money. Some also give no option but C5 despite the fact that KC is not deadly and over vaccination is well known to cause diseases and risk.

Me? Because we do lots of doggy activities I am responsible and vaccinate against KC for that reason. So it's 8 weeks C3, 12 weeks C5, 16 weeks KC only. Yearly booster of C5 until it becomes 3 yearly and I can do it legally through my clinic and still be able to attend obedience etc.

  11. Great photos Bindii.

My lot are all making full use of the couch to sleep.

When we came home Echo wanted to keep on messing around in the backyard but I made her come inside. She is happy to sleep now.

You thought she would go and go and go!! Fletcher came straight home and hid under the bed for some napping. Hugo is making funny smells.....
