  1. Hi all,

Does anyone know what the average or normal progesterone count is for a bitch when she is Not In Season? If a bitch has a higher than average progesterone count when she is not in season does that mean that she is a 'doggy' bitch?

  2. Unfortunately dogs often don't show us other symptoms when there is a problem. Have you done hydration tests? checked gums? felt stomach?

I don't tend to feel his gums on the grounds that I don't want to lose my hand. He's drinking, he's otherwise happy. Stomach seems fine.

I was going to suggest pain as well.

Glad to hear he is feeling a tad better.

Just on the above. Does your own dog not even let you look in his mouth, or have I read this wrong?

I hope Sheridan will allow me to respond to this question as someone who has known Grumpy for a couple of years now. Grumpy is not called Grumpy for nothing! He does NOT enjoy being handled at all, by anyone. At over 14 years of age he does not deserve any attempts at behaviour modification now. Sheridan is devoted to him and to making his twilight years as comfortable and stress free as possible. The challenges involved in providing bathing, grooming, transport and veterinary treatment are signigicant. As long he is well and content in his himself then Sheridan will make whatever adaptations are necessary to maintain him in comfort, even though that means "Don't Touch Me".

  3. From what you have said here, it sounds like sparring is just an excuse to show off an DA dog and blame it on the breed characteristics. is this really the type of temperament that should be being bred (when most will end up in pet homes), no wonder dogs of today are more 'flat' then days of yore.

    What utter rubbish.

    +1

  4. No registered breeder is docking tails and no vets will do it if asked. Breeders are splinting tails to keep them straight and various other things which are rarely completely successful. If they are young dogs you have seen then they must be imported (unlikely) or docked illegally by BYBs.

  5. It is because of two reasons:

    1) the breed has a strong prey drive to catch and kill small furry creatures like rabbits, guinea pigs, SWFs - this was the original function of the breed

    2) greys who've never known anything other than living in a racing kennel have to learn a lot to transition to a family home i.e. house training etc.

  6. It's probably too far away (1.5 hours drive) from Canberra but I can speak very highly of the quality care given at Drovers Rest Boarding Kennels and Cattery at Cooma. The business is run by Maggie and Andrew Harvey and whilst Maggie is the business head, Andrew is just a big-goofy-dog-mad man. The facility they have built and extended over the years is first class including insulation and sub floor heating (important in Cooma ;) The exercise runs are grassed and spacious, there's plenty of room to separate reactive dogs and many dogs get individual on-lead walks around the property. Bathing, worming, medicines and special diets are no problem to these folk.

I am in no way associated with the business except as a happy customer.

If ever you're planning a trip to the snow, Drovers Rest is close by.

    Good luck with your search.

  7. I have a false floor, cargo barrier and cage doors manufactured by them. I don't know anyone who has a bad word to say about Colin and his work. He is always booked 6-12 weeks in advance and is very popular.

You can probably find a few other companies in Melbourne but Colin finishes his off to a very high standard and he's fussy about it too. I think the fact that he owns dogs makes a big difference. He took a bit longer with my install to alter a 5cm gap in the top of my cargo barrier (was a new nissan one) because he was worried about dogs getting caught in it.

The photos of mine are in a previous thread.

    Hi,

Would it be possible to help me find that thread please. I've just got a Mitsubishi Challenger and really need some custom built dog-spaces in the back. Thanks in advance.
