  1. I am considering taking my bitch to a show when her puppies are 4 weeks old and weaned by 3 1/2 weeks old.

I don't have any experience in this particular situation and seeking Yes/No answers to questions please:

Will her boobs have dried off enough for her to be comfortable?

Would a show day away from home/puppies be too stressful for her?

Could there be a possibility of disease like parvo being encountered?

Any advice taken on board for a learning experience - with thanks.

  2. Try a Thundershirt? Quote: Lulu also is less likely to jump on visitors, and our walks are a bit less eventful with the Thundershirt. One neighbor even took time to compliment her during a daily walk, saying Lulu seems so much different in her new sweater. Thundershirts also look pretty sporty, similar to vests worn by racing greyhounds. After several rounds in the washing machine, those Velcro strips have not lost their grip.

  3. As a dog rescuer, I hear about issues in this situation very regularly so this is a topic that actually raises my blood pressure somewhat.

What the general population don't realise is that many dogs get beaten, euthanased or dropped to the pound for euthanasia BECAUSE they have killed a chicken.

I've rescued dogs just in the nick of time - beautiful dogs that were expected to live in a garden with free range chickens but killed them and were about to die themselves.

I've spoken to dropkick owners including the man who'd rescued a "lovely dog that I love" 5 years before and suddenly decided it was time to get some free range chickens. Hmmm, surprisingly the dog suddenly killed a couple and he had punished it severely before putting the dog back in the same scenario - guess what? Followed it's instinct again. It was time for the dog to move on he said.

I said what I had to say, in a nice way - that he had very unrealistic expectations that his dog should live with chickens and that it's the chickens that should go. The dog went. Some people don't understand the meaning of love, it's all about what suits at the time.

  4. Perhaps removing the water bowl after her evening meal or after last night toileting may help. Then a fresh bowl of water after first toileting in the morning. If she's restless and lapping water to help pass the night her little tank will be extra full.

  5. A friend who is a garden guru told me to buy a watering can and throw 1 cup of apple cider vinegar in it and fill the rest up with water. Then water where they pee. Helps the grass and no smell.

Of course I look like a crazy woman racing around in my nightgown at 11pm with a watering can but hey, my aim is to amuse the neighbours.
