  1. oh god, everyone seems to be telling me to go to the vet. the problem is that is' 1.30am and i don't drive! will it be okay to wait until the morning???
  2. Hi all, This evening my dog vomited up the entire contents of her stomach (i fed her around four hours ago) and then proceeded to vomit frothy bile 7 more times in the space of an hour. He's now hiding in his den looking very miserable, he was previously shaking and had his ears tucked behind his head. Normally I would attribute this to just something he ate but the day before I had to get my dog's nails clipped which resulted in a lot of stress for him. He's a small breed who absolutely loathes the act, so I had to hold him tightly while he screamed and thrashed around. I'm just concerned that perhaps he hurt himself somehow, or I may have bruised him or something, or even if it's just delayed stress from the experience??? This happened yesterday afternoon and he was fine last night and even during the day today - took him to the park and he played with the other dogs, ran around perfectly. He ate his dinner last night and his breakfast this morning perfect fine, walks fine and doesn't seem to have any pain when I press his spine or legs. What do you think? Is there such a thing as delayed shock or vomiting due to delayed stress?
  3. Hi all, I've recently been researching pet insurance for my little boy and I've stumbled across Pet Insurance Australia. Their plans look pretty good - $27.55 to be covered 100% up to $15k on both accidental and injury. I haven't heard much about this company before so I'm just wondering if any of you have had first hand experience? The other company I was thinking of going with is Pet Plan but there's a requirement of annual shots which I am a little against. Thanks!
  4. I've recently decided to stop giving my little boy those nasty spot-on chemical flea treatments after reading about the posion and chemicals in them. I am still worming him and will need to give him a monthly heartworm tablet, however I was wondering if using Sentinal Spectrum will be safer as it seems to cover everything, including fleas. My boy doesn't have fleas, it's more of a preventative method more than anything else. What do you think? Is sentinal a safer option or is it the same sort of stuff as spot-ons? If that's the case I'll just get him a monthly Interceptor tablet for his heartworm and try and deal with fleas in a more organic way. Thanks!
  5. Hi everyone, I would love some advice on flea treatments. I have a small breed who's around 1.5 years old and since I got him I've had him on revolution because it was what the vet recommended me to use as a preventative measure against fleas. My dog hates the product and I've read alot of negative things regarding the chemicals and I'm really worried that I'm poisoning him without realising it. I'd like to use something more natural. I'm a bit confused about all the different remedies out there and would love some advice! What do you do for your dogs? I take my dog to the dog park daily but he's mostly an inside dog and I bathe him fortnightly as well as washing his bedding cover. Would it be sufficient if I gave him just a tiny bit of garlic every day, and then give him a quick lemon-in-water rinse when in the bath? One last question, I've already read that the yearly booster vaccinations we give our dogs do more harm then good for them - apparently studies done show that we're over-vaccinating our animals and shots every three years is enough. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!
