Thanks Persephone, Sorry, but have no idea what to call it. Are keeping a close look at him until the vet opens next week, and we are cleaning his eyes regularly and hopefully it would help.

What could cause eye dirt?? I heard dog food can be one of the causes, but I am just not sure. We have a 2 yrs old westie, few days ago we have bought new dry dog food for him, which is the Artemis - Fresh Mix Small Breed Adult. Which has chicken, turkey and salmon as I can really tell. So our little boy started with this new food, he is totally fine for the first few days, it has been almost a week actually. Until this morning we found that he has dried eye dirt all over his right eye. It has never been that much before. Cleaned them.. and this afternoon some fresh ones came out again, and it is greenish white, it doesn't look too good. I am not sure if it is the food. Does anyone has any idea? He used to have Artemis before and then changed to Canidae which he didn't really like it much (he chose not to eat sometimes when he was on Canidae) so we changed it back to Artemis which he likes it a lot. But now the eye dirt is just freaking us out. Some advice would be much appreciated.. thanks...

Yea, from now on.. no way I will give him bones in those size again. Just told my wife this morning the nightmare me and our little boy had.. she got scared and throw all the remaining lamb bones away..

What a night... thank you very much for the advices people, my little boy is now sleeping on his bed peacefully (FINALLY!)... he is all good now... sorry for those got scared by that and thank you for those genuine advice.. I would be more cautious next time, and especially after reading info about bloat... I didn't realize it was that scary... me and my little boy were very lucky tonight.. Sorry to scare you, but I was worse, I really had no idea what to do just then. The worst is that I do not have much knowledge about dogs as he is my first little dog I ever have... I was even sweating seeing that happen.

I won't dare to give him those bone again after seeing this happen to him. The bone he vomited out was just like a size of a small lemon... even human can't swallow something that size not to mention he is just a westie.. I am still shock by that, but he seems okay now... and he is now trying to sleep... guess he is tired after this... but I will tell my wife not to give him those bone ever again...

phew... thanks guys for the quick reply... I was comforting him still just then and he actually manage to vomited the bone out... and that sound of vomiting was so loud that I never heard from a dog before.. I assume he would be fine now? and he actually vomited some apple that we gave him daily as well.. and lots of them actually were in his tummy "unchewed"... gosh.. I guess I really have to do something with this little boy... >.<

Just then before my wife went to bed she gave our dog a piece of the lamb bone (chew treat) which is something he has like once a week or so. And after awhile I found that the bone is gone, which I doubt that if he actually chewed them all cause usually he didn't really finish the whole thing he would just leave 70% of the bone bit and treat it as a toy. Then he starting breathing rapidly.. and can't sit still, looks like he is in pain or something looking at me.. I have no idea what's happening.. I tried comforting him so I petted him a bit then I found that his tummy gone big! It's like swelling, and now I am afraid that he actually swallowed the whole bone and he is having a stomach pain! What can I do to help him????

He is 14 months old and he weight almost 10kg. The last time we been to a vet he didn't mention anything about under weight, its just that we see him being very skinny and we can almost see his ribs after grooming. I didn't dare to give him chicken wings at all because he tends to swallow whatever he can eat as long as he can swallow it directly. He choked once when we gave him a dry pig ear. we are afraid that he is going to hurt his throat by giving him chicken wings. The meat we gave him they are all lean, my wife cut out all the fats. Assuming that its no good for him to consume too many fats. Not too sure if that's correct.

Hi everyone, Me and my wife need a little advice from the experienced!! We found out our little boy is a little under weight recently, we are trying to find out how can we help him to put on some weight. But unfortunately this little boy has some issues which we are not able to just simply add more food for him in each meal. He is currently having two meals a day, morning and night. Amount about one full scoop of dry food (similar to a washing powder scoop), also sometimes we give him steam chicken or pork (meat only) with rice and carrots in it. (He is a 1 and a half year old westie) Besides his meals, we give him veggies like carrots, apples, vegies like twice a day. Also some treats occasionally of cos :D Once we found out that he is a little under weight, we tried giving him more of the dry food in each meal. But ending up he starts eating his own poop in the morning. We also tried giving him raw diet, thought it might give him more vitamins and stuff. But he ended up having diarrhea for two days. And we felt extremely bad for doing that. We are now thinking of adding some supplements like powder or some sort to his dry food. Any suggestion for that at all?

Why cook the chicken? Go to Lennards and get minced chicken carcasses and feed that raw. Feed chicken necks and wings - raw. I would not give a lamb chop to a dog personally. Some dogs may also find lamb too rich - feed soft bones while they are young such as the chicken, maybe some lamb flap or beef brisket. Were the lamb chops cooked? You should not give cooked bones to a dog as they can splinter and damage/ irritate intestines etc It is not a case of raw being the way to go - it is a case of ensuring that your dog has some bone in its diet - usually in addition to dry food. Feeding a complete raw diet to a growing puppy takes quite a bit of research as you need to ensure that you feeding a balanced diet with all the right nutrients, vitamins, minerals and also with the correct protein/ fat ratio. Personally, I would feed a dry food until at least 12 months and then consider raw. oh my god.. I have no idea i shouldn't feed cooked bones to my dog.. I felt so lucky that he is alright and it didn't hurt his intestines. But yea.. thanks for the advice.. I might just take it slowly and start to do some research on raw diet. so a raw diet is the way to go yea? does raw diet including bones? cos wks ago i gave him lamb chops with bones, he ended up vomitting and diarrhea for two days, i was afraid to give him that ever since. i am thinking of adding cooked chicken breast into his dry food. Would that be helpful? Any suggestion?

Yes he is... so I should bring him to the vet to empty it? How often should I do that?

My 5mths old puppy recently developed this habit to drag himself on the carpet... scratching his anus area.. and sometimes I put him on my lap on the sofa and somehow I found that he smells really bad at that particular area... I heard that they have this kind of thing need to excrete somehow.. and you can actually help them make it happen, but I really have no idea how to do it, and are there any ways to help him letting it out by himself??? Please help my poor puppy... I'm very worried that if I don't do anything about it then it would became something serious...

My puppy has the same problem just happening earlier than you are. My boy is 5 almost 6 months old, he has been doing great all the while until 2 weeks ago.. he started pooing at one of the spot where he is not suppose to be doing it.. i tried scolding him afterwards (he usually do it while im away)... and lock him in the room.. but i realized he might not know what is the punishment so i didn't actually locked him up for long... i tried spreading something on the spot where he poo called "liquid ate" or something.. recommended by one of the pet shop near my place, but it doesn't work like she said.. (DAMN!) so now i just fence of that part of my place so he got no access to that spot... and reward him whenever i found him poo in the right place where i want him to do it... like you guys said.. back to basic.. any other suggestion at all??

Feed it to them all "raw" yea? Sorry I have never feed dogs with raw meal, I really have no idea how and what to feed him when it comes to raw...

I feed him dry food (Artemis), and I am planning to get him some bones to chew on as well but hasn't started yet because like you guys said, he is teething and I don't know whether should I give him now or after the teething is done. What sort of bones I should get him though?

My dog recently has developed this bad breath, I clean his teeth like once or twice a week. It helps a little but the stinky breath will be back soon enough. I understand the fact that their breath can be smelly, but its getting a little over and I am afraid it will become worse and worse because he is only 5 months old. It isn't the smelly part I can't stand, all I worry is whether he is developing a dental problem. Is there anything I should give him to chew on or eat to help this problem

I have been feeding my 14 weeks old westie dry food since I got him back home. He was doing great, poos are brown and solid, I assume they are healthy. Recently I found that he started eating his own poo. I told my friend and she told me that maybe he is not digesting his food well, I should start changing his diet to a better one. I have gotten the Artemis puppy meal, and now I am wondering how to I change his diet, because I have heard that changing his diet totally would cause diarrhoea. Should I mix the new one I bought with the old one, and slowly put in less of the old one?? and up til when should I totally switch to the new one? I have also read about feeding him raw food so that he can digest better. So he might stop eating his own poo. I need some advice with the raw food, I really don't know what should I feed him with on the raw diet. I saw some DOLers suggested food like chicken neck, back etc... does that mean with bones? or boneless? I have never feed my dogs with raw food before.

Sorry I am a little confused. Are you feeding your pup Orijen or Nutrience? I personally would stop using Orijen. I am feeding him Nutrience...

I'm feeding my pup Nutrience, he didn't eat much of it before but I guess he is getting used to it now and he eats more and more nowadays. Poo seems to be fine so far, but he has been scratching and biting his own legs. I didn't know that the scratching and biting could be caused by the food as well until I read this thread. Do you guys think I should consider changing his diet? He didn't eat much of the Nutrience before and made me wanna change to orijen, now that I don't even dare to think about it. It's giving me headache now I'm not sure whether I should change his diet or should I just stick with it. Pls give me some advice

I would love to know about this too, I was actually looking at Orijen before, but have seen the news about the cat food which had stopped me from getting it. Been trying very hard to look for the artemis, I live in Melbourne tho...
