  1. Can anyone recommend a good obedience class near me. I have looked at the websites for Messy PawZ, Berwick K-9iQ, Pro K9 and would like to know others opinions. I'm planning on calling each place tomorrow but was wondering what success or otherwise others have had. Thanks
  2. Thanks every one for your replies. Berwick it is :)
  3. I have found 3 obedience clubs in my local area (Berwick VIC) and was wondering if anyone has experience (good and bad) with any of them. I had decided to go to Berwick as it was very affordable compaired to the others but I was not that happy with it the last time I went. the 3 in my area are: 1. Berwick Obedience Club 2. Training Offered at Vets- Woof Per Nah 3. Berwick K-9 IQ Thanks in advance for any help.
  4. thank you all for your replys, very much appreciated. Having more accidents at the moment as she stuggles outside in the heat (flops in the shade and wont move), just have to keep going and hope the hot weather goes away so our pup can go to the toilet outside
  5. Just wondering how long it could take to toilet train our 8 1/2 week cocker spaniel puppy? We take her out after each meal and every time she wakes up and so far we only miss 1 or 2 wees a day. I am not bothered how long it takes, but would like an idea on what to expect. thanks
  6. I had a job interview at an employment agency this morning and one of their employees brings her kelpie to work every day. It got me thinking how many other people take their dogs to work with them?
  7. I was at Knox shoppinc centre yesterday and the pet shop there has a similar sign. I was having a cuddle of a ragdoll kitten (to test to see if I had any allergic reations) and asked about the purebred kittens papers. They dont give them out as they cannot give out the breeders details plus you get to pay double the price for the privallige
  8. Our vet gave us a 10% discount when we took 2 pets in for imunization. I dont know if that happens if you take 2 pets in for enything else.
  9. We have just purchased a holded rodeo duel cab. My OH thinks its for us building our house but actually I want it for when I get my dogs
  10. I understand your pain. I had to PTS my Golden at the start of the year and it was horrible. I remember driving somewhere a few months later and seeing a man walking his Golden and I burst into tears in the car . At the time I new it was not possible to get another dog because we were about to move onto our block whilst we build. Our block is fenced on 3 sides and the front fence is just temporary builders fencing. There is no trees or garden for shade and once we get into the swing of things, no time for training. My brain know this is not the time to buy a pup but my heart just does not care! Thankfully my head wins each time I get close to looking for a pup. Just keep reminding yourself that you are doing the right thing, bringing a pup home right now is far too dangerous and the wait will be worth it in the end!
  11. Keep your dogs indoor bedding washed, try vases of fresh flowers that smell nice or lots of scented candles (which is what Sunnyflower said, I just got distracted and took too long to post )
  12. and they dont get "really friendly" with your guests ;)
  13. Thanks everyone for your advice. My head says kitten but my heart says puppy or else!. I'm going to do something I dont normally do and agree with my head and get the kitten first.
  14. Thanks for all your replies. My head tells me I should get the kitten first but my heart says if I dont get a puppy soon I will burst. Not too sure if my head or heart will win but now atleast I have some more things to think about.
  15. Thanks for that. So far its Puppy first 2, Kitten first 1 Not too sure what Lilly would adjust to first. We call her our "second hand cat" as she was free to goo home in the trading post. The family she was with had to move and couldnt keep all their 6 Burmese so she (and 2 others) were given away to good homes. The family also had a boxer or two so she has lived with both cats and dogs. Yes mylappie they are a beautiful breed, I'm hooked now
  16. I would like to get a Burmese kitten, but also want a Golden Retriever puppy. I just dont know which one I should get first. Do I get the kitten first and let them grow abit then get the pup. Or do I get the pup first and wait till they settle and adjust to cats (we already have a 5yr old Burmese), then get the kitten? Or is it just a matter of what I want first? What experience have others had with puppies and kittens?
  17. I can sympathise indigirl, I had 2 Goldens that loved to help out with the gardening . Thankfully they only dug at the lawn when we moved house. I think the lawn bugs were tastier at the new house. I metioned this to a woman I met on the street and she suggested putting updisde down mouse traps where they dig. When the mouse traps are disturbed they spring up and the idea is they give the dog a scare and disract the dog. I never tried it as I wasnt comfortable with the idea (was worried the mouse trap might snap onto my dog). Has anyone heard of doing this or tried it? ps hope you are better soon
  18. Can you pay your deposit via bank transfer? That way you can look at pups from both breeders and then decide wich breeder had the dog for you (or would that be considered rude to the first breeder?). congrats on going to get a golden. they are beautiful dogs.
  19. My boxer lived to be 13 or 14. He was brought up on Pal then Chum (wet and dry) plus table scraps. He died peacefully in his sleep. My parents had a GSP that lived to over 15. He was recued so we never knew how old he was but my parents had him for 15ish years. He grew up on Chum (wet and dry) plus table scraps. I'm pretty sure mum would add rice sometimes to make things last longer. His only health problem was a non cancerous tumor growing under his tail. My mum's cats live to over 17 and they were fed on the cheapest thing they would eat plus a bit of liver or similar. I have decided that the reason our pets have lived so long is not special food but my mum
  20. Hmmm, where do I start....... We used to go to our friends holiday house each year. Down the end of the street was a beuatiful rough collie, and I wanted to get one just like him. Wanted to own a St Bernard as they looked sooo cute, but then decided against it after I heard about the movie Cujo My aunt had the sweetest rotty when I was little and I wanted one just like her. When I was older I remember people telling me me that they were vicious dogs and all I could think of was my aunts big sook. My aunt also had an OES and I wanted one of them too. Loved the comic strip Marmaduke so I decided the dog for me was a dane Also always wanted a dalmation. I have never owned any of these breeds but I working on wearing my OH down to get a rough collie in rescue and my next birthday present will be a dal puppy
  21. I saw the show and thought it was good. Would have liked to have seen an option to buying from pet shop ie going to registered breeder, and more details on where the pups come from. Good luck Maisie!
  22. WOW! what an incredible journey!
