  1. I am in Adelaide's northern suburbs ... if you live over this way PM me and I can give you the names of a couple of dog obedience clubs that have puppy obedience classes just like claireybell's ... this type of puppy class is the norm from what I have seen ...
  2. I don't like dog parks - too much can go wrong when too many inexperienced owners and out of control dogs get together. They are brilliant when they are empty ...
  3. Thanks for that ... there are some extra ideas there I can add to my mix ...
  4. Something that may be worth a try is setting her up to fail so you can teach her her behavior is unacceptable. What I mean is be watching for the behavior and strongly reprimand her by making a loud sound or something that startles her so she knows you mean business and learns the behavior is unacceptable quick smart. Teach her to associate something unpleasant with the behavior. Then call the boys up in front of her and ignore her. Just a thought ... you may have to do it consistently for a while ... I found it worked with my young shepherd when she started blocking and pouncing on my older one every time he went through doorways ... she rarely tries it now ... but I sometimes see her thinking about it ...
  5. Thanks for sharing Tangerine Dream that is truly an awesome display of teamwork, training, trust, control and obedience ... And JulesP ... it brought me to tears ... the incredible beauty of the two of them working together ... incredible feat of training, obedience and teamwork ...
  6. Merlin, me and Tala send you lots of healing wishes to you, your family and little Holly ... you are doing really well and Holly is lucky to have a mum like you ...
  7. I did plan on buying a large breed formula when I went to buy my 2nd bag a few weeks ago (1st bag was given to us by Kei's breeder). When I rang up the breeder to find out where she gets it from I asked about this and she said that she prefers the Medium Breed.. something to do with the protein levels I think? I also asked at the place where I bought it (vet) and they said the same thing. No probs with gas so far.. the odd bit here and there but not excessive. We had a lot of soft stools to start with but they seem to be getting better now with the mix of dry/raw only get the occasional one when I add something new. Hope to do the same as you and go to complete raw at around 12 months but would still like to have the dry as treats and a back-up meal Against all advice except an exceptional few I raised my 14 mth shepherd puppy on the all raw diet ... no kibble has ever passed her lips ... she had her yearly shots recently and a complete health check and my vet commented on how healthy both my dogs are (my boy switched to all raw a couple of years ago). I kept changing vets until I found one who would support and add suggestions to what I was trying to achieve ... I walked out of one vet after he told me off for feeding my dogs raw meaty bones (mostly roo necks and tails) and that I should give them nylon rawhide instead ... I couldn't believe what I was hearing ...
  8. In South Australia Ani-Mall 76a Hogarth Road Elizabeth South 8252 3830 Great prices, great meaty roo bones, great variety and it is only the beef that has any preservatives. I can often even get fresh rabbit here.. They also carry a wide range of dietary supplements ... my two dogs get great natural doggie treats from the owner every time we visit and load up the car. It costs me about $40 to $50 a 2 to 3 weeks for my 2 shepherds and I feed all raw ...
  9. Absolutely not ... the first thing I did with my 3 year old shepherd was set the crate up outside for a couple of weeks with the door open and would leave a treat or a toy in there. When he got used to that I brought it inside so he got used to going in and out of it and i left the door open and then I started sending him to his crate and rewarding him. Then I started closing the door and there was absolute carry on but as soon as he stopped I gave a treat and let him out - I then progressively left him in there for longer periods of time with the door closed and really had no problems with him ... Both my dogs put themselves in their crates all the time as I always have one setup ... hope this helps ...
  10. luv your sense of humour Nekhbet ... I don't know how often I nearly do this with my young one .... ;)
  11. Mine is Penn-Plax, I can stake it to the ground and I got it half price for around $160 but it is the biggest size they make ... as it was shop soiled ... I was sick of carting the heavy metal crates around for my shepherds and this is just perfect at trials and training ... the cheap brands are not worth buying for a big dog ...
