  1. Hi, I have always owned big dogs border collies, labs, dalmatians, kelpies now i'm thinking i would like a little dog. I'm thinking of a jack russell i'd want to show it and trial in obedience and agility. I'm concerned i wont cope with a jack i have always had active breeds but are these little guys more active than what i have had. I have spoken with 3 breeders all really nice but of course biased towards their breed. Are these guys the type of dog that will snuggle up for a cuddle as well as being active. My dlamatians were always active and loved a run at the park and a big walk each day so i'm accustomed to that but at home they would always lay inside for a cuddle. I'm just starting to look around so after some opinions. My other choice was a cavalier but i think they might be a little to quiet but also open to suggestions there as well i haven't spoken to any cavalier breeders yet they also have longer hair living on a property i thought that might get a bit hard to keep clean. I'm not in a hurry yet to get a new pup as i already have 3 dogs but 2 are old and sadly in reality wont be around in another year or so due to their age or 12 and 13 both are a bith arthritic and one has a lump that has suddenly appeared over the weekend off to the vets tommorrow morning to get it looked at thanks in advance
  2. My spotted terror ate about 2kgs+ of dynamic lifter and had no side effects no way i could put in on the lawn or she would eat it all. She had snuck into the garage and found her feast..... Not that i would reccommend it but i think its pretty harmless
  3. Here here just been to visit her we live miles from Sydney and she helps via distance where possible and is just fantastic with the dogs. Top service and a friendly perosn to boot!!!
  4. This is exactly what he is like and it is down his spine as well but really bad in his neck his tail is swollen as well but that is ok it can still wag :D i meant to say its calcification of the spine and like someone else said causes a bridge so when he is having a hard day its cause the spiny bit is catching on something. I really need to ring the vet and have a chat. its one of those things that at the time you think you get it and then a day or so later it sinks in and i can hardly remember a word she said. Does anyone believe its hereditry he was used a stud once by a breeder about 5 years ago so i wonder if i should tell her.
  5. Hi, has anyonbe elses dog had this my 11 year old has just been diagnosed with this after an xray. No treatment available its in his neck. hes having some physio and massage to help the muscle around the sore bit relax its working well but none of any of my friends dogs have had this wondering if its rare. Vet reckons its common
  6. Wow thats really interesting about the wild dogs i have learnt something today that really makes sense. Thanks dancinbcs. When my bitch has her phantom she collect anything she can to shove under her including sticks and rocks if i don't let her in the house to "nest " in her crate she will dig a big hole and sleep outside no matter what the weather is. I found it nice well i feel better if i let her inside with a couple of soft toys. Didn't make her worse just more comfortable in my eyes and its so funny one day they are her babies the all of a sudden they are her tug toys again!!! Her lasted for about 1 to 2 weeks but seems like an eternity. Now i know about the wolves it doesn't seem so strange having milk i always thought it was a big hormone imbalance
  7. We have gone 2 days now with no one else getting sick so fingers crossed the other 2 that got it we treated as soon as they were symptomatic so cleared up in a day the one that had it on friday i gave her a small handfull of norma kibble in the chicken and rice last night so far so good so i'd say shes ok now the key seemed to be early administration of the scourban and they didn't have it for more than one day then so glad we live out of town so the bug should die out here. I was supposed to help at training on saturday but sent my apologies didn't want to go near any other dogs as we must have walked it in here so didn't want to sread it if the cvirus is still around
  8. She got alot worse so went to the vet got buscopan tablets that slow down the bowel some scourban to stop the diahrea and some bacteria to add to her chicken and rice shes ok then next day other dog got it and now my other dogs got it so we are quarantining ourselves from other dogs and washing hand metrioculaosly. Looks like they have a virus going through them no idea where our dogs got it from haven't been to a show since May and we live out of town closest neighbours about 2ks away so we must have walked it in from the shops or something just lucky we don't have puppies or really young dog. The seem to get over it quicly once they have a tablet and scourban. The newest one to get it today had gone all through her run while we were at work so she will stay in the yard tonight shes actually acting pretty sore in her tummy where as the others didn't so no tea for her tonight shes already had her scourban and tablet and see how she goes hopefully she will be ok since its the weekend. So looks like all my dogs are going to get it not much point trying to quarantine the others although i have put the well ones in a different paddock tonight but probably too late to worry about it. Its not parvo no vomiting and no parvo smell plus they are all up to date with vaxs so must be like us humans get a gastro like bug scary
  9. I think i might try the topspot profender is that a vet line or can you get it at say Petbarn. Thanks for the suggestions failing that think i'll invest in a pill popper those teeth are really sharp and the mouth is so little so hard to keep your fingers out of harms way
  10. One of mine just had chronic diarhea after waiting and first fasting her then feeding rice still no improvement this dog wasn't flat or quiet just pooing very runny vet did a faecal float and yep shes got worms i have a rigorous worm routine but our new puppy came home with worms yes great and so looks like the older one caught it so everyone will be wormed tommorrow as vets given the said dog meds today to slow her bowel so she said worm everyone tommorrow YUCK!!!I'm freaking out. We worm religiously every 3 months so now we will be doing it every month for the next 6 months to break the cycle. Better result as i was thinking she had parvo!!! even though they are all vaccinated they are due in JUly so was getting worried.
  11. Hi, Ok this might be a dumb question but... are the worms that dogs get the same ones cats get. Just wondering as mine are almost due for worming everyone gets done on the same day so was looking at what to get for the cats I know this is a dog forum but what do people worm their cats with last time we had to get tiny 1 kg tablets and my cat is a tad overweight so had to have 7 (yes i know don't do the maths) it was a night mare so wondering if there was an easier way dogs teeth aint as sharp as cats plus my dogs mouths are bigger easier to get those tablets in. Not lloking forward to worming the cat again
  12. Hi, He is a 2 year old girl still active acting like nothing wrong touch wood no diarhea since last night so the fasting is helping i think i'll give her some rice tonight and see how it goes my husbands taken our pup to the physio and i told him to let her know that out other dogs been sick just in case anything is catching. No one else is sick but just in case. I just wonder if she ate something weird my cats have been kindly bringing home dead mice that they have caught. We don't use rat sack or poisons and no neightbours for 5ks
  13. Hi, Yesterday one of my dogs has developed diarehea she didn't want to eat tea last night and this morning she just ate the rice i gave her. Shes not flat at all hooting around as though nothing is wrong just stops and has quite explosive diarhea gave her some lectade last night and this morning. Should i take her to the vets or see how she goes. I'd be rushing there is she was acting sick but besides the diarhea shes acting fine and i'm sure would love to eat more but i thought rice today and i'll buy some chicken and cook it up tonight for her add a little bit of that to the rice tommorrow morning. I hope i'm not be neglectful but also don't want to go to the vets for them to say keep up the fluids ans give rice and chicken for a few days.
  14. Hi, Wow i'd love to take her swimming the closest place i could take her is 2.5 hours each way so we will have to just do the physio. Shes off there today so see how we go. Everyday shes getting stronger on it. It was scary the first time we took the elastic bandage off every little sideways movement she would squeal or if she bumped it she would squeal i rang the vet and she said thats normal shes just guarding it but now she is doing ok still not much muscle but its been out of action for almost 5 weeks so will take a while to come back. I'll let you know what the physio says.
  15. Just thought i'd post an update. She was xray healed nicely. she is now totally unbandaged. We have made an appointment to see the physiotherapist on monday vet thinks she wont need physio but if it was a human you would so rather be safe than sorry shes a bit stiff in her stifle and still not totally weight bearing and absolutly no muscle tone. Shes super excited not to have the elizabethan collar on now
