A girl I work with is looking at buying a British Bulldog but has been shocked at the $2800 price tag the breeder was after, is this a normal sort of price or is it a bit high? It was PB with main register papers.
I have no real idea what they usually go for and told her I would ask here.
Unfortunately that is the going price but can vary anywhere between $1500 - $4500.
Dependant on age you could get a mature dog for btwn $1500 - $2500 where as
puppies generally go for $3500 - $4500 & dependant on the breeder that might not
include papers. Tell your friend to save save save & research as much as possible.
Patiences is definately the key, something I know nothing about ;) ;)
She wouldn't wait and went for the cheaper, quicker option of an Aussie Bulldog
To be honest, we have discussed getting an Aussie instead of a British.
A british is what we want but we had heard the Aussies can have less issues. I haven't researched it yet as my partner wants a purebred British (he is English and said "why would I want anAussie when I can get a british). But we did discuss maybe getting an Aussie with say 86% british in the hope we would et the proper british look without quite so many health issues.
No need for any lectures though as we will not be going through with that option LOL
Hate to admit it but I have seen Aussies u would've sworn were Purebred british.
Unfortunately lana anyone who determines percentage in an ad (especially if they ain't purebred) & this is only my opinion is full of crap, how the hell can anyone determine that sort of percentage . You also have to remember that first an foremost an Aussie is a crossbred mutt the potential puppy you buy could have 2 or 3 different breeds in it with all these breeds each carrying there own health issues.
;) to for deciding against that option & I 100% agree with ur partner why buy a replica when you can have the real thing.

I feed my BB's semi lean beef & kibble twice a day.
I gave them lamb off cuts which didn't go down a treat first time they had them they ended up vomitting them straight back up,
every now & then they might get lamb shanks or lamb necks but only as a treat.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but why are those with breeds not listed entering? The facebook page is just being flooded with pics, many of dogs not on his list.
I get that everyone would love to have a chance, but he's specified the breeds/colours he wants..?
Maybe they received a different email, cause I noticed quite a few non purebred dogs entered

My hubby found a bowling ball (10pin) in the park behind our old house & bought it home for our boy, absolutely loved it + he couldn't tear it to shreds. We used to be able to hear this ball banging the fence all hours of the nite as he's rolling it around the yard .
It would keep him occupied for hours. We ended up getting a 2nd dog, bulldog they both got on like a house on fire. Can't recall them terrorising our yard as it was pretty shit anyway :D . Our staffy was a good boy he basicly got the low down on WHAT NOT TO DO at a young age so he set a good example for our bulldog.

Hi DOLers,
I need to get a bigger car for the boys (love my little corolla but its just too small).
I have ruled it down to either a manual; crewman or Hilux (2005 or newer). But cannot decide between the two.
Any help would be greatly appreciated in regards to size, fuel consumption, driving, and personal preference (and why).
I have two dobies, and plan to have a cage built in the back under the canopy.
Thank you in advance.
Kind Regards,
Jessca
Personally I would go the Hilux, my hubby has a Toyota Workmate '05 (manual) which he uses for work & for when we go to shows.
Good on fuel, drives heaps better now that we pimped his wheels he wishes that he had the auto
though as he gets sick of changing gears but other then that he loves it. We were looking at the SS ute (VE) as we have the
sedan, but he opted for the Toyota as he said they get more milage outta the motors & the motors last alot longer.
Good luck in your search

I can't stand it wen our dogs bark (which is only wen there hungry or wanna be let out or in) , so the thought of hearing someones elses would shit me more
I guess the anonymous letter thing would be the better option as you don't know what kind of crazies they are, but as far as parking there spare cars on your patch of grass hell no :D would not let that happen at my place. If I was you once they move there car I would goin park yours (if you have a 2nd) in the spot & leave it there till your bf gets home then play musical cars, :p
-
Because if the first question they ask is "How much?" they aren't getting a puppy.
Not from us either.
And another reason why people turn to petshops.
If we want to stop PF and petshops there needs to be some understanding that not everyone is educated on how to approach a breeder.
Everything you purchase has a price and it just comes naturally to ask how much.
Doesn't mean they are not worthy on that question alone.
I feel the exact same. Everything I purchase has a budget, but wen it comes to my breed of dog never seems to be stuck to .
As i am a breeder if enquiring about other puppies, mature dogs etc (new lines to add to our kennels) I need to know the exact prices (I neva ask though wait for breeder to iniate that part of the convo) these other breeders maybe selling there dogs for so I know whether we can afford it or keep looking.
I personally love to talk to whom ever about my breed of choice, but feel guilty wasting other peoples time wen all I want to know is whether I can afford there pup or not, then come to find I can't
I already know we can offer the "potential addition" the best home we could possibly give them. By no means are our dogs given caviar & they are not inside dogs, but they have a roof over there head with aircon for the very warm days have nice beds to sleep on, are fed twice a day with fresh water & bathed every 2nd wk (as with bulldogs 2 much bathing can cause skin irritation) & are loved by all our family :D :D :D
-
A serious question to breeders.
How come almost all the websites for breeders say absolutely nothing about the prices of their puppies? I would think that most breeders are sick of getting emails just wanting to know how much they charge. Can somebody please fill me in? On that note, can anyone also tell me the 'general' price for a British bulldog pup for pet purposes (not breeding or showing)
Thanks
Alot of breeders don't like to advertise price as they don't want any other breeders knowing what they sell there puppies for.
For a pet bulldog you could be looking at anywhere between $1500 - $3500, I came across a breeder wanting $3500 for a limited register (pet)
bulldog mid last year.

Artemis feeding guide is around 4 - 5 serves @250gm each serve per day for a 14kg puppy. I'm probably not reaching that level yet...
My goodness! I hope you NEVER reach that level of food
:D I was thinking the same thing, I have bulldogs who are roughly around the 25-30kg mark. i'm not feeding them Artemis or EP but they are getting dryfood & raw meat (with sardines & yoghurt) I feed them twice a day with all meals weighed to the gm. My 2 boys get 400gms of food each meal, my girl who is about 20kg mark gets 250gms of food a meal & they all are a pretty good size. I understand puppies need more to grow but I think 250gms of anything 4-5times a day is just way too much.

We were at a specialty show & my hubby decided to go in the properties for Gentleman Handler. My hubby doesn't show our boy I do, so wen they first entered the ring our boy decides to start bouncing round the ring like a kangaroo :D :D (judge was not impressed) my hubby then goes to stack him and doesn't do it rite coz the judge just rips him to shreds. He tells hubby to do an out & bak but hubby does a triangle, judge is yelling at him to come back but as hubby has tuned out coz he doesn't want the judge to rip into him again and doesn't hear. Once he's back from doing his triangle the judge tells him "I wanted an out & bak, now out & bak" by this time our boy is stuffed & won't move so the judge :D an goes strait to awarding the Gentleman Handler which we can gather wasn't my hubby

Just got back from a walk in the off-leash park. It's normally rather chaotic but I have never seen any aggro outside a few growls and warnings.
My boy is a 1yo lab, so quite big (not quite fully grown) and bouncy but well behaved generally. He bounces up to everyone (dogs) and crouches wagging tail like mad until they sniff him. The reaction can then be anything to more sniffs to immediate play fighting depending on other dogs' reactions. He has been 'warned' plenty of times by dogs big and small and backs off every time.
Couple walking their small white, maybe maltese (not tiny weeny, although small). Archie bounded up, and he does bound, so 30kgs is quite a sight to people who don't know him. The woman immediately picked up the swf (that was growling and barking at Archie), while I was constantly reassuring both wife and hubby that Archie would absolutely not hurt him at all, he's completely harmless. Archie also responds well to 'gentle' when he's playing with smaller dogs and once he reaches them, will definitely slow down / back off. Husband said very roughly "he is going for our dog", I replied "no I promise you he's not, he is totally friendly" .... and he made some other rude comment about how Archie was stressing everyone in the dog park despite there being plenty of dogs his size and bigger romping around. Arch tried to play with a few other little ones and was fine, owners reactions ranged from smiling to one who called their dog away and Archie moved on.
Should I really put him on leash in these circumstances, given owners are all so different ?
I was really tempted to say to this bloke "the only person that's stressing is you and you're passing that straight on to your dog, especially by lifting him up". But I can obviously understand his concern for his dog's wellbeing and uncertainty about a big bouncy boy.
I've grown up with & owned dogs since I was a little girl, but must admit if a another dog comes running at me (whether it be in a playful mood) while walking my dogs I freak out.
I used to walk our SBT (deceased) in a park out the back of our old place, I used to walk the perimeter & if I seen other dogs would either turn the other way & try to avoid as much as possible. This one day, I was walking our SBT & this guy was playing with his dog (mutt) in the middle of the oval, well this dog spotted us all the way over the otherside of the park come bounding at us full on & went my boy.
I freaked, was screaming at the guy who walked not ran over to us, swinging his dogs lead in his hands, saying he's a puppy he's only playing, all the while his dog is chomping my boys leg.
Pissed me off big time hubby ended up doing a drive by :D round the streets & came across the guy & his dog. Guys dog got put down & he had to pay our vet bills for our boy.
Although that was my one bad experience, I never have my dogs off leash wen walking regardless on whether it's in an off leash park, as dogs are so unpredictable & I don't want my bad experience to happen to others at the hands of one of my dogs.

Has anyone had a good experience recently with Puppy Preschools anywhere within the NSW Hills District- Castle Hill, Kellyville, Blacktown, even out Windsor way? Are there weekend classes, or mainly evenings?
I'm happy to travel to the right school.
Puppy is an 8 week old Whippet.
Thanks
I used to do show training with Luci Ellen in Austral, I think she does puppy preschool on Thursday mornings.
She is really good, if you don't mind the travelling I'd definately go to her.

Why do so many not want to sell/respond to people who have mobile numbers only and free email? How is using a mobile any dodgier than using a home phone? Both can very easily be disconnected or the number changed. We have no landline, it is just too expensive to justify when mobiles are so cheap now. We also only have a free email account as our mobile broadband doesn't include an email account. I have had the same mobile number since I got my first phone 9 years ago, and have had the same email address since getting the internet.
How people choose to structure their tele-communications plans does not reflect on their reliabilty or suitability as a dog owner.
I only put a mobile no# at the bottom of my ad's, there is an email address also but I state I prefer people to call & not email. For me I feel if someone calls me then they are more genuine then say a person who emails as they have gone outta there way to make the call & gather as much info as possible even though all info is stated in our ad's . Not to say that all phone calls end up in a sale but it's just something I prefer as I would always rather hear who I'm communicating with
-
I have just been looking on the puppies for sale section of DOL. There seem to be quite a few people with the phrase "no time wasters". What exactly does that mean? IMO it kind of implies that if you are not going to buy the puppy then don't bother calling.
I mean, surely if a person is interested or thinking about getting a pup, a breeder should be happy to discuss the breed, personality of the pups etc?
Am I a time waster if I am not 100% commttied to buying a puppy from that litter, or if I'm not 100% certain the breed is right for me?
I personally find it a bit rude, I found other breders who are more tactful saying things like "genuine enquires only" or "puppy farmers BYBers need not apply" etc.
Am I just being too sensitive?
I must say that I've been a person that has placed "NO TIME WASTERS" at the end of my puppy advert's. Which I find a bit hypocritical of myself coz I could probably guarantee more then once I've been a time waster to other breeders
As I have placed that under my adverts previously I don't find it rude or offensive but see it as making sure only the "Genuine Buyers (which I also put in the ad) the people that actually have the $$$ & can offer my puppy a good home need contact me. I place everything a potential purchaser needs to know in the ad' so there is no confusion wen they call me to enquire, although you still get the "TIME WASTERS or which ever we like to call them ringing & asking you questions that are already stated in the ad' & then before you know it the price haggling starts & boy that really gets my blood boiling
At this point I get really short as I have been on the phone for some time speaking to these people answering all there questions, nothing wat so eva to do with my breed as they already know everything (eyes rolling) having never owned a dog of my breed before & then they have the hide to think I'm a stall at the Flea Markets & can start bartering or haggling the price down.
"mate the price is wat it is (non negotiable) if you can't afford to pay the $$$$$ that I ask for then please don't waste my time, Thank you" unless we state in the initial ad that the price maybe negotiable then we expect offers but if it says (non negotiable) & people still try barter all I wanna do is hang up.
Then I get the third degree from the potential purchaser asking why do I charge this much, I can get it cheaper in VIC or QLD or on the Trading Post but because your close I want one of your puppies but I only wanna pay this much "like I said before mate I ain't bloody Bunnings Warehouse where if you find it cheaper somewhere else we'll beat the price" (actually had to say that to someone) hubby was coz he never seen me get like that before with a complete stranger.
Although not all puppy enquiries are like this as there are alot of Genuine people out there who have done there research & know exactly what they want & how much it's gonna cost them, I guess wen breeders place "NO TIME WASTERS" under there ad it's because there fed up & have had experiences like myself :
-
now thats one i havn't heard!
There's lots you'd love to hear.
Like the reason for cropping Dobie's ears is so it helps relieve the tension on their swelling brains
And a 'Staffy cross' means 'Southern Cross Staffy', which means it's an Australian Staffy. Not Staffordshire, mind you, the 'proper' name is Staffy.
Also, they're called 'pitbulls' because they were used in Spain to kill the bulls that were too wild in the bullfighting ring.
You don't use collars on puppies, you use "choke chains" and if it does something wrong you chase it and step on the end of the lead once it's running so it learns what it did wrong and that you're the boss.
And you can cure a bitch of aggression by letting it have a litter of puppies
And if you have that litter, once their eyes open, you take them off the mother and their siblings except for feeding time so the only things they see are humans, they will get attached to people, and that will stop them ever biting anyone. That's what all the good breeders do *nod*
All of these and more I've heard as "facts" from her. Thank god she's caught up in ruining her own life and hasn't yet bought a puppy
That was the best laugh I've had for ages, definately made my morning.
-
Can't remember just where I got this from but I think I heard once that it should take you no more than 6 seconds to stack your dog.
I was taught the same thing at show training, not that I could ever stack my dog that quik

:D after spending the weekend arguing ova building the box not building & then finally building it, we decided to take our girl into get an ultrasound just to put our minds at ease & the Vet seen nothing
We had a sneaking suspicion that she maybe having a phantom as she had one on her previous season & we didn't even mate her but were hoping like hell it wasn't & now our suspicions have been confirmed ;)
Oh well theres always next time, least we have a nicely built whelping box for wen we do eventually have puppies.
Once again thanks everyone for all your help, advice etc etc, really appreciated :D

Certain forums are not general access - breeders forum for example. Anyone can read, start a thread and comment on their own thread, but you need to be approved to do anything else. Off topic is another one but can't remember what the limits are
Thanks for that, didn't realise that was the case, now I know I'll stop tryna post a comment thinking it must have something to do with my computer
-
Just wanting to know why I can't comment on certain threads?
It doesn't happen all the time but a few times I've wanted to comment on different threads & have been told, "you do not have permission to comment" along those lines anyway.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? The threads ain't locked or anything like that.
Very interested to know why!!!!

After reading the supercoat thread I have decided to change the dry food I feed the dogs. I was just wanting to know if anyone had any recommendations.
Jet has been scratching lately and I do actually feel that it must be his supercoat. I have gone down other avenues and this is the conclusion I have come to. Jessie on the other hand is a picky eater and at 9 years old, she will probably do better on a 'senior' dry food.
They will usually get some chicken necks or something similar in there diet as well daily.
Can anyone help? Preferably not a brand that will put a hole in my pocket. I usually buy dry food from City Farmers. Jet has previously been on Advanced but I was not happy with that either.
Have just switched my doggies to UA. I had them on Coprice family dog, although 2 of my dogs were doing good on it my big boy just didn't look the same as before.
Although stupid me never factored into account that going from a Premium kibble to a budget concious (spellchek) one was gonna be a huge change to there bodies.
Anyway so I thought I'd give UA ago & see what all the hype is about, Hubby was a bit put off by the shape of UA & was like WTF my doggies seem to like it although there were a few upset tummies, probably from the change to the kibble again .
A bit early to give my diagnosis of the brand, but if there eating it & it's not coming back up or out the bottom to frequently then it's a good start.
UPDATE, have taken dogs off U/A due to extreme vomitting. Had them on it for 3-4days & all vomitted within 1-2hrs after eating.
It was not there sole diet & i did make the change gradually but it just didn't sit right with any of them. Neva mind at least we tried it & now know it's not for us.
Am gonna go back to the Coprice working dog as it has more fat in it then the family dog & they all did like the Coprice, was just me who wanted to follow the hype & give U/A ago

:D :D I honestly don't know how this guy is still walking
I thought we had heard the last of his antics, obviously this new prefix has work wonders.
I feel for anyone who gets caught up with his crap as we have heard the same stories, dogs not
showing up, money not being refunded etc etc.
