  1. I haven't played with her for 2 days I have cold and I don't know if it's contagious to dogs. She has her second needle next week. She had her first one at 6 weeks and the vet said to bring her back in 4 weeks. She'll be 10 weeks old. Is that right because I thought it was at 12 weeks and luvsdogs pup Tilba was 11 1/2 weeks. Is it safe to take her at 10 weeks?
  2. I shouldn't be walking her? We've been walking to the park almost daily. It's only 3kms there and back. Not many people walk their dogs around our suburb because it's hilly. I didn't know it can hurt her joints. I'll stop walking her until she's 4-5 months old as you suggest. What kind of places is it safe to take her? We usually visit my uncles so she can play with his pup. Is that enough until she's had all her needles?
  3. I did as everyone suggested and waited until she was 8 weeks old to go out in public. We went to Shorncliffe at low tide. She can Swim! I'm so excited. She wasn't bothered by the other dogs. I let her off the leach in the water. She didn't run off. She stayed with us. We went for a walk between the pier and the beach. There was people riding bikes and skating. They scared her a bit. We don't see many people when we go for our 3km walks near home. She met a lot of kids. At least 6 or 7 kids aged 3 to 8 sat down with her and patted her for half an hour. We had a picnic lunch and Riley ate Advance puppy. It was great day. Here's a couple of pics. She weights 5kg and is 9 weeks old this week.
  4. I wondered the same thing........... maf.. I know you saw "the father"... however, more than one dog can mate a bitch when she's in season.. and the pups in a litter can have different fathers! I didn't know this. The male dog was pure black. There was no other colours on him. The female looked like the traditional golden tan german shepherd. If he's lied about her been purebred I'll just have to live with it. Like others have pointed out, I bought her from a backyard breeder without papers. She is my responsibility and I will look after her regardless. I'm not going to buy another dog. She is a family pet not show dog. I am having her desexed as soon as she's old enough. I want to do the right thing and be a responsible owner. I guess some people here think that's not possible but I don't mind what people think. If in 15-20 years from now I do buy another dog, I will have learned from this and I'll buy one from a known breeder. I honestly did not know she was only 5 weeks old. I've only seen german shepherd adult dogs not pups. I did not know what size she should be. She is growing. You can feel her tummy when you pick her up instead of her bones. She has a lot of energy and is a loving dog. I'm thankful people here have helped me and my pup. I expect I'll need advice in the future. I hope people don't mind if I stick and around these forums and ask for advice. Thank you, Michelle.
  5. She had her first vaccination last Tuesday. I'll hold off going to public places until she's 8 weeks. If she gets worse, I'll find an after hours vet. I just checked on her. She's breathing normal again. Here's some pictures from last week. She has a new collar now, one that fits. You can see from the 3rd picture how much smaller she is compared to her brother. Riley (left), Boss (Right).
  6. She's sick. Her breathing sounds like she has a stuffy nose. She's not eating much. She ate one meal at lunch and about half her dinner. She has drank over 1/2 a litre of goats milk today. I would have taken her the vet but I had to take my mother to the hospital emergency department (which took all day). If she's ill tomorrow she's going to the vet. She has gained 0.4kg since Tuesday. She now weighs 2.3kg instead of 1.9kg. I've had few people tell me she's grown quiet a bit since last week! She likes the pet mince from Lenard's. I plan on taking her to the Ipswich Dog Obedience Club. She has to be 4 months old. Is there any good puppy classes she can attend without waiting until June in the Ipswich/Brisbane area? I have a couple of training books but they've not helping. She plays tugs-a-war with my shoes laces, bites electrical leads and she tries to bite my toes and ankles every morning when she's hungry. I've tried yelping to say 'you're hurting me' and leaving the room but she still bites. She has stopped whinging at night. Both pups went for a walk at the Sunday farmers market last weekend. They met a lot of people. I was going to take them to the beach this weekend but I'll wait until her cold is better. I want her to be active and sociable. The pups spend a lot of time together. I've told my uncle everything you guys have said here and he is taking your advice. He owned a German Shepherd a long time ago and he wants the best for his little guy.
  7. I gave her a chicken wing. She's been biting it for the past 5 minutes. She hasn't eaten anything from it but she's having fun trying. It's stops her from trying to bite my feet! She didn't eat much last night. I gave her the Advance soaked in goats milk. She tasted it and left it. I don't think she was hungry. She hasn't had the runs yet. It still looks normal this morning. I'll make sure I ask for 'pet' chicken mince.
  8. I'll buy some chicken mince from Lenard's tomorrow. I looked for it but I didn't ask if they have it out back. I'll be brave and give her a chicken wing tomorrow morning. I'm scared she'll choke on it. I bought the Advance rehydratable puppy food. I'll feed her some now and see if she eats it. She and my uncle's pup play with each other almost daily. I take her to his house when I'm not home. They jump over each other, play chase and share food. It's cute. I'll take some photo's.
  9. I bought various types of mince, some lamb steaks and lean diced lamb. I avoided the cutlets. She's not ready for bones. I'll give her chicken wings and cutlets when she's a little older. She has her own yogurt, cheese and goats milk. She loves the goats milk. She couldn't drink it fast enough. She ate meat for lunch. She gobbled it down. My uncles pup is here today and he really enjoyed the new foods. I've stopped feeding her tin food and the roll. I've made up meals into snap lock bags and I'm using our spare fridge/freezer to keep them fresh. My pup is small for her age. She's not bony. Our vet said the male pup (my uncles) is a little skinny. She does have some teeth. They are mostly the back ones and she has tiny teeth coming through on her gum's. She doesn't eat much kibble. I'll buy some Advance and add water or goats milk to it. Do I heat up the milk/water? I'm keen to help her grow up healthy.
  10. We didn't get papers. They are purebred. The vet doesn't sell dog food. I asked what is best food to give her and he recommended Advance. He said it's better quality food and there's less waste. Is Supercoat puppy much better than Bonnie? I have 40kg of Boonie. Is there a specific type of yogurt or cheese I should buy? Do I feed it as a snack or a meal? Probably a silly question but what is goats milk? I'll try giving her some raw chicken mince. She is still getting her teeth through so the softer foods are easier for her to chew. She loves the dog roll so she'll probably love fresh meat. Should I serve it raw? Do I mix anything into it? Her coat is very soft and feels good. She's very energetic. She loves playing with her brother when my uncle visits with his pup.
  11. My uncle and I each bought a German Shepherd pup last week. We viewed both parents and their litter of 9 pups. The pup I choose was a bit smaller than the other pups but I liked her temperament. We were told they were 6 weeks old. We took them to the vet today. They are both underweight. The male pup weighs 2.9kg and my female pup weighs only 1.96kg. He checked them for worms. The test came back clear. They were wormed and given their first needle. The vet said they are barely 6 weeks old and believes they were 5 weeks old when we bought them. I've been feeding my pup Bonnie puppy (kibble), Optimum puppy (tin), and fresh pet roll. I feed her 3 times a day. She has a healthy appetite. Before I bought her she was fed Pal puppy and Weet Bix. She weighed 0.9kg the day I brought her home. The vet said she needs premium foods and suggested Advanced. Advance is available in Advance Puppy Growth and Advance Puppy Rehydratable. Which is best? What do you recommend I feed her to help her gain weight and grow?
