  1. yeh, looking forward to attending some lessons in a few weeks... and on the citronella, each place i've read says the same thing...it won't harm the dog, but it is SUPPOSE to stop her from pooing or weeing there... no true
  2. yeh absolutely.... as often as i can thing is, now with getting her 'reward' she wee's on command, but doesn't do poo's at all... need that happening.
  3. i don't mind the fool bit it's just the whole non-stop barking, craziness, threat to personal safety thing i don't like pooing is still a problem... went through her 8mx10m area and cleaned it with citronella, but she continues to poo wherever she wants.... without regard for previous location etc.. . just want her to start doing it outside...but you can't force that, right?
  4. BIG PROBLEM.... if she's awoken by anything inside our house she GOES NUTZZ!! She bites the security door, barks, runs around like crazy... just goes non-stop till someone goes out there. She gets in such a state that she looks like she's going to hurt herself against the security door etc. Irony this happened 5 minutes after I said how good she was in the above...
  5. as always...back for more advice. Romy is eating and learning well.. even goes outside to do wee-wee's without any guidance now[lets hope this doesn't jinx it] 1. how do i get her to lay down? do i put her in the position i want her and then i offer her a treat? 2. water.... i've spoken to a few people who said limit and or take away the water after 6-7pm.. isn't that cruel??? just trying to stop her weeing constantly in the evening[not that it matters outside i guess, but just preventing mistakes inside] 3. warming up her blanket for the winter. the area i leave her in seems to get rather cold [as a human], so i heated up her blanket on top of her bed twice... bad move, good move? just want her to be warm... but unsure how to approach it. From what i've been told so far, dogs adapt and i shouldn't need to do that?
  6. ohhh wow, just finished reading all the replies. thank you very much, will take it onboard, especially the too much exercise comment and will observe her more closely.
  7. well... 1) the dog is really chewing hard on the security fence [and tearing apart the flywirer] when it's excited and WANTS IN.... It does NOT obey any command, even with food presented. Any thoughts? 2) And after acting very naughtily, I sent her outside in her back area and she straight away left a nasty surprise for me.... Too many people have been saying rub her nose in it.. but i can't see the benefit????
  8. thank you... i agree, and completely understand where you're coming from... but it would hurt me to see her in that 'cage'... but, if it comes to it, i will have to take the plunge
  9. my goodness... she went crazy out the back... poo'ed 4 times in our little spare room that she is inside, pee'ed in there and pee'ed in the house once last night as well... she's real young and i don't have the heart to use the crate method but really struggling with the naughtiness note - she does pee outside, then i give her a reward snack on command... the poo'ing and the holding in, i think i will have to wait to happen. only problem i have is, i don't trust leaving her inside the house without following her all throughout it ;)
  10. thank you.. ;) playm8, i am going to have to steal your left photo and make romy do exactly the same thing on the grass... just an awesome photo!
  11. playm8/ruby - sorry about the lack of pics.. will get them onto the laptop and upload them tonight. the toilet training is an interesting one as i doubt i would have the heart to do the crate training. sooo.... food is the only way to get their love, i shall continue to win her through food then and her name is ROMY... yes, that ROMY.... love the movie and the name. thank you very much for the posts everyone!!
  12. a few days of progress... and two days of going many steps backwards. how do you teach a dog to stay? ....rest no problem... but this is a toughie
  13. A couple of questions if i may please; When should you first clip the dogs nails? Just standard clippers? Wanna make sure I do it safely. From what I've read, puppys sleep 16-18 hours a day. We try and exercise/entertain her for 4-6 hours a day and relax with her for the rest. She seems very tired and drifts off to sleep a LOT close to us on her own rug. Is this ok? Want to make sure she's not just bored and/or depressed. What's the process to get her to sit. Now sit and other commands are ok, but how do I sit away from her and reward her for sitting in one spot?
  14. thank you very much guys!! i love the dog.. she's fantasic and is picking up stuff quickly ie sit is already quite good the toilet thing is still an issue... i can't look away from her for a while without thinking she is going to poo/wee have read those threads...wonderful forum edit- will post pics soon
  15. To add more information : She is at the chewing/biting phase. Do I allow that to happen or will it allow the dog to become too dominant? She is still weeing too much inside the house... perhap use the biscuits as a regard when she does wee/poo outside? Sorry if this is in the wrong section... this seemed the most appropriate.
  16. Hello, Am very fortunate to have a new addition to the family. An 8 week old Beagle. I absolutely love her, but this is my first time in my adult life with a pup. I had a poodle when I was very young, but I have very little memory of that.[besides the whole having to move and leaving him behind ] I bought a bed for her to sleep in as she will in her own outside room [bout 8 metres by 5 metres] I have about 6-7 toys already for her to play with. I have bought a variety of food for her to enjoy at breakfast and dinner, plus some to help her teeth and some to offer as incentive for 'learning'. Myself and my partner work at slight different times so we hope to get up reasonably early with her and see her early through to late in the evening[on some days during the day as well when either of us is off] Surprisingly.. based on all the reading. She has learned quickly, she is not crying/barking much at all at night or in the morning [in the evening, trying to tire her out as much as possible before sleep time] I require advice in regards to development, expectations and toilet training and anything else that will make the dogs life better in the longterm. Thank you in advance.
