  1. I am going camping this weekend for two night. We are going up north which is about a 4 hour drive from home to a camping site on the beach where dogs are permitted. I was definitly planning to take my boy but now I am having second thoughts because according to the weather reports it is going to rain all weekend. We will be taking his crate, a long lead, pigs ears, toys. However he has my parent's to look after him if he doesn't come. What would you do?

I don't want him to disturb other campers which I am not 100% whether he would if he was bored or not as we have never taken him camping with us before. Has anyone taken there dogs camping while it was raining?

  2. We are taking Jet camping with us in a weeks time which I am super excited about. He has to be either crated or on lead at all times though. I have tried previously to buy on of those long line leads or 'recall' leads which are a few metres long but can never find one longer then 120cm or something. Does anyone know where I could find one of these on short notice. I would prefer not online unless ofcourse I could get express postage.

ETA: I am South of Brisbane, Logan Area.

  3. I don't see what the problem is of having dog who live outside. As long as they get the attention from there owners that they need still what is the problem?

    Where does my dog live?

Mostly outside. He is in his crate inside when it is cold otherwise he is outside to sleep. He is happy with this and still gets plenty of attention.

How often do I walk my dog?

Once every few days or sometimes it can be more. As long as he has has mental and physical play/stimulation he does not need a walk at all. I like taking him for walks as often as I can though.

Do I walk my dog Rain, Hail or Shine?

No, I refuse to go outside in bad weather, plus I would prefer him not to get wet since he has a long coat.

  4. underwood park is also near daisy hill forest if we wanted to take our dogs for a walk bush as well, is always an option

ohh I would love to do that

Ok so by the looks its going to be the first sunday of every month after lunch...2 or 3pm?

We can set the next one for Nov 7th

Now to decide if we are starting on northside or southside...as far as Im aware the last meet was on Southside correct?

Ahh that dates out for me. I am camping at Double Island that weekend so unsure when I will be heading back. I will try my best to make the next one!

  5. Yep, i had a 5 month old GSD come charging over to me last week, young girl had no control over it at all, i had to stop for her to catch it, and it started to hump my cattle boy much to his annoyance.

I was very friendly, asked her about him, then gently said she might want to be careful who she lets him run up to, as not many people would feel happy about a gsd charging upto them.

I try to be nice to people, always gets a better response

i was young and niaeve too once, and thought just because my dog was friendly it was ok, i now know differently.

This is the right way to go about it

I was just unknowledgable once (I know a lot of people who are) and I do agree with DR that some people here don't realise that there ARE people out there that don't know much but will try there best. I am talking about people who have a go at people less knowledge over some basic and small.

  6. I am Jet's heart person. I am the only person he will come and cuddle constantly.

Actually now that I think about Jessie (my families dog) loves me to pieces and I would be her heart person too.

She barks and is the most excited when I come through the door, doesn't act like that to anyone else!

    I love my babies :)

  7. So a dog that will chase down a child and kill it should be allowed to live because it isnt its fault that it is that way???? Any dog in my whole extended family would be pts if it so much as attempted to bite a child even if the child accidently stood on its tail and the dog snapped at the kid, a dog is aware of who it is biting/going to bite unless it was cornered and being threatend it should move away from a child, complain vocally but not bite, i do not believe the way a dog is has everything to do with the owner, some dogs are genetically predispositioned to bad temps, some dogs should be pts for the safety of others.

to the OP i agree that a behavourist is needed, but if this dog has had a go at a child in the past it is something you will ALWAYS have to watch out for, is that something you are capable or even willing to do for the rest of this dogs life?

    Are you kidding???

I agree the dog should not start viciously attacking the child or even draw blood, but you would PTS if it even snapped near a child who had injured it?

The OPs dog has not "chased down a child and killed it" so i don't even know why that was mentioned here...

I am pretty shocked at that too. If you stood on a dogs tail or hurt it ofcourse its going to react. Maybe not in the biting way but some dogs will. I would never consider putting a dog down due to something like that.

My dog was fear agressive. However not towards people but still the behaviourist worked wonders and I now have a well behaved dog and the past agressive ways are hardly seen if ever. I think the best thing is a behaviourist. I hope someone can recommend someone in WA for the OP

  8. Jet is a pet shop puppy. I don't regret it but now I know better.

He has everything I want in a dog & honestly I hope my next dog will have his same qualities.

He is perfectly healthy. I don't believe that when dogs come from a BYB or Puppy farm that means the dogs will be crawling with diseases all there lives, but you do get more certainty buying from a registered breeder which I will be doing for our next dog.

  9. As long as the dog is muzzled an under control it isn't a problem. Aggressive dogs are just as entitled to be exercised as any other dog.

It is just up to the owners to control them properly, and up to other people not to allow their dog to approach strange dogs until they have the ok from the dog's owner.

Every dog is capable of aggressive behaviour in the right circumstances. It is important that people don't allow their own dog to provoke aggression in others.

I feel the same. Jet is 'fear agressive' the most he has ever done is growl at other dogs. However I still go to dog parks and keep him away from other dogs unless I know them. When I see another dog approaching which I feel is to energetic or the size of the dog might worry Jet. I will leave. I won't trust other people to contain there dogs because I am unsure if they will.

So in answer to the thread. I think it really depends on the dogs level of agression & the owners doing of controlling it.

  10. Looks like a staph infection. Licking and scratching can bacteria under the skin where it flourishes.

Paint some betadine on it and see if it helps. Honey had something similar after a contact allergy and it worked a treat.

If it hasn't improved in a day or two, you'll need to get some ABs from the vet.

Thanks DeeLee. I will give that a go. Unsure what sort of allergy it would be. She has never had something like this.

Oh sorry, I didnt mean she has had an allergy :champagne: - its the resulting irritated skin from any localised licking and scratching that leads to infection.

It may have started with an insect bite that she bothered, could be anything really.

With Honey, it developed from her scratching at her rash.

 Thank you. Learning all this stuff still. First time the dogs have had that sort of thing.
