  1. Sounds like the right sort of thing for my household - we have a cat and a dog who are terrified of each other. It's all anxiety as they're both scaredy cats (dogs).
  2. Awesome idea! Now I can make one from stuff lying around the house instead of spending $$. Saving up for a larger house with a bigger backyard. I was suckered into buying the puppy toilet trainer pheromone thing but my dog does not even react to it. Sigghhhh... She had been, to give her credit, weeing in the indoor garden area instead of on my carpet. Just that my plants are dying and there's a bit of a stink... had to remove all the ornamental pebbles and disinfect everything. Poured a gallon of URINE-OFF and BAC-TO-NATUR followed by citronella pellets. So she got confused and started peeing on the rug and in the toilet, but on the floor next to the toilet bowl.... Siggh... I was literally spraying my whole house with bAC-TO-NATUR to get rid of the urine smell so she won't go in the same place. cost me $60 for two bottles. D'oh! Will start on the pet toilet project pronto.
  3. Thanks, okay I try something else. That sounds stupid - I thought the pet loo was meant for people with NO LAWNS. i.e apartment dwellers. They sound a little too trigger-happy in the nonsense department. Were they temps? I borrowed someone's pet loo to try it out today - the cats used it as a bed to lay on. The dog ignored it and looked like I was punishing her when I put her on it. O well.
  4. Here's my dog going psycho at the dog park. Frozen motion, longer exposure than necessary. Image a bit blur Will try again later.
  5. Just wondering whether it is worth shelling out 300 buckaroos for a bit of synthetic grass and a plastic container. Does it work?
  6. Mm, yeah thought that was the case. I wasn't looking for a discount - just felt a bit like the vet didn't bother explaining anything medical to me, it was a bit like '$$$$' this and '$$$$' that... felt a bit wallet-dry after leaving her place. Was wondering whether this was the norm and whether I am expecting too much from a vet. LOL. This particular vet *is* apparently the best in this field so maybe is getting a little jaded. But I think I'll stick with the old vet. Sorry, a bit frazzled today. Apologise for crumpy post. Am bringing her for spaying as well.
  7. Hi, I am considering taking my new-ish dog to a new dental vet to get her teeth cleaned under anaesthesia. She has had recurrent infections in the left upper jaw (back) spreading to her cheek - I brought her to the local vet and we managed to keep this under control via antibiotics. When she started going off her food again, I took her to a dental vet (lots of credentials, affliated with a major teaching hospital, in the media a lot, fancy vet clinic but very commercialised - selling lots of commercial products and your usual Science Diet) for a 2nd opinion and this vet said she needed her teeth checked under anaesthesia - $350. If she needed her tooth taken out it would be more (didn't give me a quote... but indicated major $$$). I was a little perturbed because the vet didn't seem to have any rapport with my dog whatsoever and treated her like a piece of meat. Note there was no infection this time, I was just being paranoid - and the vet charged me a full consult for just taking a 5 second look in her mouth. The original vet I went to said that she didn't need her teeth cleaned unless it got really bad, and he was trying to save me money. But he did miss the tooth problem when he initially checked her teeth. Opinions? I really don't like the fancy vet... just a hunch. But what are your experiences with vets? Are they just stand-offish because they are more experienced? And the less experienced ones tend to charge less and talk more to their patients??? confused.
  8. Hi I came across this website and it seems okay for the premium - http://www.vetsown.com.au/faq1.asp A lot of the other insurance companies don't cover 'routine vet care'. What do you guys think?
  9. Congratulations! BEAUTIFUL PUPPIES... you must be one proud grandparent! A C-section sounds painful for dogs... how long does it take for her to recover? Is it like a human C-section where she's not allowed to life heavy weights for 8 weeks? i MEAN, run around in the dog park for 8 weeks? Does it affect her future breeding potential? I know you can get ruptured uterus after multiple C-sections because of the surgical scar in the womb...
  10. Ouch! Silly me, I FORGOT that human flaxseed and dog flaxseed are the same (flaxseed!). I bought special dog flaxseed for big bucks. LOL. And its not even liver flavoured. But yay, will add that to my baby's food. She has been having some dandruff in the dry weather and the oatmeal shampoo was a bit too harsh for her. (supposed to be gentle, not!)
  11. Any breeders here use flaxseed to improve coat and skin texture?
