  1. Well the sight hounds do not come when called so it get attention I flip my finger in a come here motion with a slight clap! Omg the motion gets attention and the slight sound helps snap the attention. It works to get the worst one out of the back of his kennel without having to grab a piece of dog and dragg it merciless forward. Not sure how it will work in a the longer term, but it will help when stalking in close quarters.
  2. My house yesterday, but not today. My grey thought snow ok. The dals run around mouths open ala goofey style. No one wanted to pee! The refused to eave the couch, period.
  3. We have plenty of experience re new dogs we have had upto 6 at one time. Sophie came as a rescue with 0 socialisation skills period she is the drama. I can handle her.. But didn't want to leave them alone first day to fight it out. Just in case, I was being cautious. If I take all 3 dogs I own that many hours 3-4hours one way, I would have a dog fight in the car for sure. Something I wanted to avoid.
  4. That's crap! Our neighbours dog used to short cut thru my place to her fathers place on the other side, on the way thru he attacked my dog on the chain... Tore him to shreds a dog that was whimsy and passive. It's a bugga, but they will be cared for and given extra loving by u I'm sure.
  5. Well we declined the dog, now it looks like I'm flooded in, so it wasn't meant to be. Oh bummer Can they not send it later? It was just if wanted to collect on weekend I have to drive nearly 3/4 of the way to Sydney, today or goulburn Monday I work at 3.. It's a 3+hour trip one way. I can pay carrier.... But that's a week day, I wanted dog to have some time to get used to one another before I have to leave them alone. The jrt.... Can pick a row.... Just growling.... But bigger dogs will tak him on, in his eyes he's 20feet tall and bullet proof.

  7. Yeah, they can do goulburn Monday which I have to work... And might be a big day, and leave strange dogs at home might not be good. Or Sutton forrest onthe weekend. Or I pay road freight. Just looking to see what dol came up with, as Sophie was derived to Canberra... By a lovely dol lady who will always be Seen by me as freaking awesome.
  8. Yeap! Cooma I would give u my first born... Althought you might throw back a 16yo with attitude! The dog is for him... Ssssshhhhhh! Rescue grey!
  9. I was wanting to know if anyone might be coming Sydney Canberra this weekend..? Or better stil, to snowy mountains. For one grey hound? All the posts in transport section are years old, so while it most likely should be in there... I feel it won't be seen by anyone. Thanks.
  10. If the crate is big can you add a dividing wall? Thus making each half smaller, thus meaning you don't have to find room for second crate?
  11. No where did I say don't ask, but what I found and in the beginning I spent 2 hours a day email places, recuses breeders adverts. It was time consuming, and the judgement made based on very narrow criteria which is often the case astounded me. You can just say no to a perspective buyer, but to say you based your judgment on in one case a particular fence to me is strange and judgemental. For another to say I don't understand dals or dogs when I have told them I have had strings of jrts and working type dog how much harder can a dal be.... Don't all dog respond to training? It's more about waffly judgements based on x = y real life is all about shades... It's not one size fits all. It can also be about helping people gain knowledge.... While you might have 200 buyers lined up,is it not better to change thru example and exposure someone's ideas about dog ownership, thus maybe saving one from being dumped? Not every city or town person has had much to do with dogs, it's not like farm kids, to us dogs were around we all just learnt how to deal with them in all respects. Most city folks are likely to have limited acces due to councils ruling on numbers of dogs in the burbs. It's about trying to change things by example. If people experience with you is too hard then yes, they will tend to take easier options like the oodles on fb.
  12. I dont see that this is the real issue. Of course most people will make up their own minds about dog ownership. I doubt that my opinion as to a person's suitability (or not) will change their attitude about their own ability to raise and train a dog. What IS a fact is that the breeder has the ultimate say regarding to whom they choose to sell their puppies. Where people choose to look for their puppies is their right ..... they just need to portray the right attitude to be convincing that they can offer all that is needed for a dog that they are interesting in obtaining..... whatever the source..... be it breeder, pet shop, trading post, roadside stall, car boot in a parking lot etc etc. But if breeders want to get there dogs out there and the pure bred message, then They really need to judge each puppy buyers case as an Indiviual. Not with blaket statements. By just blanketing every one who has a full time job or no colour bond fencing as I was once told... You rule out some good dog owners based in your limited experiences. Therefore it means people will source a dog from the trading post, or the boots of cars and pay up front to scammers. Why not be more open minded and help people from where they are at? Why not share with those with no doggie experience? Me I'm lucky I grew up round farms and have seen more puppies born than most breeders and have even had to deal with those who didn't work out. No I couldn't shoot me, but I've had to take them to be done.
  13. This attitudes why I won't be actively seeking a breeder, for my next pup, it's the reason why I won't be also taking a dog from any official recuse. Sophie was a good as dumped on her saviour and sent to us a very broken dog. Which we have now fixed while working heaps. In fact we have people who tell us how Lucky we got such a nice dog and how lovely she is. Leo was purchased by his vetted buyer from a breeder who ticked all her boxes. I bought him from the trading post. He was sort of broken, and still is... I will be asking breeders who have seen me and followed Sophie just to be kind enough to pick me without the crappy jumping thru hoops. If we are still deemed crap owners.... Then I will purchase from other sources, as I have the skills to work with those dogs. No drama... But a breeder behind a screen will not tell me I won't have a dog or 6!
  14. See I didn't know its unusual for dogs not to live till late teens, all ours have expect for those killed early in tragic accidents.
  15. I often pick up road kill. The dogs like roo meat and the cost is just right. I used to cook rice and mince for the dogs. Atm woollies has 10kg on special for $10.00,
  16. My dal has eaten more white chocolate and raspberry muffins than I have recently! So much so now days I say I just store muffins in the dog!
  17. LOL That reminds me of my Grandad - when he got old , and couldn't do much , he had a little mini-moke to drive. he used to put 4 or 5 dogs in.. drive a mile or so away from the house ..tell the dogs to get out , and trundle back home . The dogs loved their runs - and there was no danger of traffic . It did not teach them to chase cars, either ;) Mine love to run home! And follow the quad round the paddocks.... In fact when you start the damn thing they all go mental barking at it because its not moving! they do the same to the horse when he's in the cart too! Horse gets a bit peed off tho.
  18. Horizontal snow here atm.... Bloody blizzard! Wish the wind would duck off!
  19. Leo who refuses to go out in the rain... Runs round In it mouth open like a looney tounge out catching snow flakes! He. It a huge fan.... But has been known to have a frantic play for about 15 min, then it's all over. In sure they will be fine and will have a great time.
  20. Just a bit clumsy :D He runs like a gazelle though Nope, mines no runner... 1km and he's looking for the couch
  21. That was Photo was Leo but the whole paws came out as well. You will note he could not run either, he used to tip over... Lots at 11mo old. He just unco... Totally. The other dal she glides elegant.
  22. The best kind recycled puke! Mmmm tasty.....
  23. My dal Leo couldn't hardly run when he came here is not suprising he could not swim! He used to try and walk at the v Back end which included frantic drowning at the front. We went on a trip and I wasn't buying the damn dog a life jacket when we only go near water about every 3rd year. I bought a walking harness so I could hold the middle up... Cheap harness from supermarket was $20.00 so even In salt water I didn't care about it being wrecked. It helped and now he swims normal.... He just needed lessons... to dog what most do naturally
