  1. My understanding is that politicians only receive a 10 minute briefing before they go into a parliament sitting. If a sitting is over 4 days and there is a minimum of five bills per day under consideration, not to mention all of the other items on the agendas, unless they had a specific interest in a bill, 10 minutes isn't enough to garner anything but a superficial understanding of a subject. We are living in a growing echo chamber reality, people will only tolerate others that toe the same line that they believe, and facts are no where to be seen.
  2. I've dealt with the neighbours not home barking, I've dealt with the never ever shut up, night and day barking whether the neighbours are home or not. Now I have the dog that doesn't bark while the neighbours are not home but won't shut the hell up when they get home. Where it stands and barks is directly pointed from the front of their house across the road and straight into my bedroom, where I study in the afternoons. Our house is higher than theirs. Oh something that might be important. They have two dogs, I honestly don't know breeds, the one that barks looks like a white shaggy type westie x something a little larger, and the other one looks like a medium size bull breed. I think the only time I've ever heard it bark is when we've walked past, it barks maybe once or twice, and of course I'd completely expect it to, the other one goes off it's tree. This goes on from around 4-5pm and doesn't end until, well who knows, sometime after about 8pm most nights. I have no idea if it's close to 8pm or closer to 10pm because by that time I've got the shits so much I have to give up anything else I'm trying to concentrate on and watch videos. Now I love dogs, I'm that person that makes 'I want to pat eyes' at every single dog I go past, obviously I don't unless I've asked the person BUT one thing I can't stand, to the point that it gives me a migraine, is a dog incessantly barking. Seriously I have the start of a migraine coming, all of the windows are closed, I can't have them open, yay to summer not, and it's 6:30pm and right now I can't hear it barking, it could have been fed, it's been barking from 4ishpm. The never ever shut up dog problem was solved with first talking to them at 1am mind you when I couldn't stand it any longer, and when they did nothing me printing out quite a few information booklets and flyers that I was pointed to in here. It was great, sure yes it barks every now and then but honestly I thought they might have gotten rid of it, which was not what I wanted at all. I'm really not sure how to approach this one, I haven't spoken to them yet, whenever I think I'll go I get really bad vibes, so don't end up going.
  3. I would print out some information from the council website and other places, seal it up in an envelope and put it in their mailbox. Unless you specifically want something in relation to the fence. If you aren't in the position to fix the fence, maybe put another section a few feet away from it so your dogs can't get to the fence either.
  4. Forget the kids, this is worth seeing at an adult only session
  5. What I find interesting is the amount of people, watching these sorts of conversations on facebook, that are totally against dogs and cats being eaten in Asian countries, and photos and videos that come out of those countries are 'condemn those people, kill them instead' those same people are all for Muslims using halal slaughter, and any photos and videos that come from slaughter houses showing that are all 'set up, and faked' talk about hypocritical!
  6. On the covers of some of the others they definitely have left them, boxers, bloodhounds, jack russell, maybe it was the person submitting the photos not Brown Trout themselves?
  7. I can't believe this thread is still going, there are a lot of people with their knickers in a twist over something on the internet, oh wait, it's on the internet so it must be true right?
  8. Just do it, more than likely if they went to the landlords they would say no anyway, it's not permanent in any way, and it's always good to have an enclosed area for the dogs. Completely agree with Juice as well, no one stop you putting a cubbie house in the backyard, well as long as it's on the ground anyway, majority of kids are way way way worse than majority of dogs.
  9. Hazy definitely hasn't popped up again and yep completely see what you mean about there being shitfights. The FB link to the CC one, yes I saw that too, people are idiots, there is lots of that on the 'purebred but not registered' pages. Not sure how they think two purebreds but of different breeds meets that criteria.
  10. I'll see if I can find it, it keeps coming up on FB, as a link to an article, not as someone's comment. Can't find it at present (keep looking), you know what it could be though, I did find a 'fence it off for small dogs' part. Maybe someone has got their wires crossed and written it in a way that makes it appear that it's for small dogs instead of people wanting a part for small dogs.
  11. SM here is another one that popped up in the side panel on FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/CCDogOwners/?ref=br_rs Hazy I just saw an article about the Tuggerah one, they are definitely advertising it as 'small dogs' just wait until an accident happens with a big dog, I can see someone going to court over it. Newcastle is just as bad, there isn't anything around and it doesn't look like the council want to do anything about it either, there is a FB group about getting a fenced park but nothing much happens. BC there are a few around Newcastle but I wouldn't be caught dead in the harbour one, way too many diseases get passed around there.
  12. Hazy I thought the Tuggerah one was just for small dogs? I remember the one we have on the Northern Beaches, it's on the top of a cliff too! SM that sucks that no none kept them going, I think it's because the chick moved up to Newcastle, they used to be all on the Central Coast before that.
  13. SG the meetup group is the one on the FB link I put up :D
  14. SM there is this group https://www.facebook.com/dogloverssocialgroup?fref=ts They do walks and play dates and beach dates and cafe with your dog dates :D I'd say I'd come but I don't have a dog yet
  15. Yes, my Tenterfield Terrier hated staffies, I love staffies so it's not as if she was picking up anything from me. There was no interaction that went wrong or anything else that I know of and she was with me for 16 years from a 7 week old pup. I have heard of other people with dogs that just seem to hate other breeds, same situation as mine, nothing had ever happened. Sometimes it just happens. I would just make sure that I didn't put her in the situation, at training I would make sure I was at the other side of the group to where the staffies were (that caused it's own problem especially when the staffy owner would follow me and get offended when I told them why I had to move...again...) that she felt threatened as she was always the one that got upset first and it's not a good thing having a smaller dog snapping at a larger one, she would have been the loser.
  16. My vet would whole heartedly disagree with you - we had this discussion, among others, regarding what's an appropriate level of risk vs the advantages of socialising last year when we got our latest pup. The beach was high on her list of places not to take puppies not fully covered by vaccination when I wanted to get my pup out and about. Her advice was that there are plenty of places to socialise puppies where the advantages don't present an unacceptable level of risk to puppy's health. The tide doesn't come all the way up the sand cleaning the whole beach in every beach. I'm not having a go at you; just addressing your POV in comparison to what my vet recommended. We have a local beach here that is the 'dog beach', it's very very well known for all the diseases that dogs can pick up, parvo, kennel cough, anything and everything can be traced back to that beach when there is an outbreak. Wow. Judgemental much? Yup. I've send this stuff before near where I live. Judgemental? I can live with that. I stand by my comment. There is a term called feeble-mindedness, this is when even with education people are still stupid, you can't fix stupid no matter how hard you try!
  17. Unless they have the GPS somehow put into the top of the collar, you know the part that has no interference between it and the sky, it's going to be a bit shit. :D just saying.
  18. Thanks for that Lisa, also having access through Uni helps in getting the complete documents for them as well. So passed the ones on I had so far, and they still insist that they are right (desexing at 6 weeks is perfectly ok to do), they probably didn't even read any of the papers.
  19. I've been searching but can't seem to get the posts that people have put in links for the scientific research on this. Can someone please add the links for me or point me in the right direction.
  20. Has no one read all the new research that is being done on what and how dogs are when it comes to human interactions? They have the same reactions as children do, they set off the same reactions in humans as children to, it is no longer 'dogs are not family members', they are, in many more ways than anyone believed. Do your human children comfort you when you are sad? That is no different to a dog recognising and doing the same thing.
  21. oooo a mini german shepherd  maybe I can use that as a point to convincing someone else though, I didn't even know this was a breed.
  22. Does anyone know the rate of purebreds in the pound compared to cross breeds? If the amount of purebreds is a tiny percentage of cross breeds, the whole reason for desexing early doesn't hold up and breeders should be looking after the welfare of their puppies not putting them in jeopardy of long term health problems which the new owners have to pay for. Would be interesting to see a case go to court against a breeder for the above situation.
  23. And many people like and respect this forum, though it is not was it used to be. The reason many of us are here is because we like the forum. If you hate it, don't let the door hit you on the way out. hahahahahahaha better the devil you know I say. Look at yourselves, you give 10 points to anyone new that comes onto DOL and asks initial questions, but as soon as those questions go beyond 'what breed is right for me?' you crucify them. You tell people to do all the research they can but then you crucify anyone who says 'why don't breeders keep their websites up to date?'. Most of you appear to think you are gods and that everyone should bow down to you, let alone question why you do anything you do. There are many fantastic breeders on here but they are the ones talking to people behind the scenes, the ones that truly want to help people and not crucify them until they throw their hands up and go to a puppy farmer, and yes I have proof of this and they actually recommended the puppy farmer to me!!!
