  1. I do not envy you the path ahead,we have just very recently been in the same position,I can absolutely Guarantee you.THERE IS NO easy way to prepare for this,we had almost two years of keeping our friend comfortable and him having a degree of quality of life, before he let us know it was time. Like you,we thought we would be prepared, sadly NO,yes we knew we had done the right thing, but it does not help, the reality still hits you like a sledge hammer, but know when the time is right you will make the right decision for Tess.
  2. Many thanks to everyone for your kind words, a little about us,we do and have had Saint for nigh on 26 years,we started with one companion dog(big story behind that) and ended up with another, then another, started showing about twenty years ago, then started breeding the very occasional litter when needing another show dog. Although we love all our friends, they say you only ever have that extra special dog once,we have been extremely lucky,we have with Keypa had two, some years ago we had a dog Named Bandit,he too was just that little bit extra special, both the appitomy of what this breed is all about, true ambassador's both bringing joy tomany people,as we did with Bandit hospital and nursing home visits and a great deal of promotional work with both(one particular story I can relate about Bandit which I can not relate without getting extremely emotional) we grieve the loss of all our friends, but Keypa's passing as in the case of Bandit's passing in 2000 has been very hard on both of us. Again I thank you for your kind words, just in adding, Keypa was diagnosed with congestive heart failure almost two years ago,so his passing was not unexpected,we did know one day we would have to say goodbye,we had him on medication,Vetmedin and we do have some left,he was on 5mg capsules,we do have some left,so if anyone knows of anyone who has a friend on these tablets,we are willing to post them anywhere within Australia,if this would help anyone help one of their friends,we are only to happy to forward them on,depending on what dosage the dog is on there could be anywhere between 1 week to 1 months supply(if they are only on 5mg a day) No matter whether your friend is healthy or you are nursing them along in life and making them comfortable, cherish every moment you have with them. Rick and Sue P.S if anyone requires the meds mentioned, please contact us at [email protected],please put on the subject line Vetmedin so I don't inadvertently delete your message as spam
  3. Desaix Finders Keepers "Keypa" 26th July 2004-1st March 2014 Sadly today we had to say farewell, you will be sorely missed but never forgotten, we met you soon after you were born and visited regularly, while we anxiously awaited the day we could bring you home, you brought us so much joy and happiness,as too, to all those you met,you may not have obtained your championship title(at no fault of yours)but you where always our champion. You where a true ambassador for your breed, you helped Sue through two major surgeries, not only as her companion, but also her helper and protector,Sue has felt your leaving the most. Your spot beside her chair can never be filled, your position in our home obstacle course will take some getting used to as too the leg grabbing as we passed your way, your huge soft head resting on our chests as we sat in our chairs and you had your cuddles, you are no longer old a frail, again you are young and free,to run with past friends and family. It was a True Honor that you chose to share your life and love with us. Rick and Sue You will be in our Hearts and Memories forever
  4. Just came across this thread,I too have very recently had to say goodbye to my best mate,he was on Vetmedin 5mg capsules,I have some left, depending on the amount your dog requires there could be,between a week or a months worth left,I am willing to send them to anyone who needs them(within Australia)if this helps someone keep their friend for a little longer I will be only to pleased to forward them on. Cherish Every moment. Rick
  5. I think you have answered your own questions,if the dog's your breeder friend is breeding is not the style and type you are after, you have to obtain your dog's from somewhere else,as long as they fit within the standard of your chosen breed, everyone and every judge interprets the standards differently,so your never going to please everyone, like any show arena, the dog arena is no better than the others, full of bitchiness and in fighting, interpret the standard of your chosen breed and pick the breeder YOU think is breeding the better dog's and those animals which fit within the standard the best,if your breeder friend can not accept this, maybe their not the mentor you need. I myself am the biggest critic of my own breeding. though I do not agree with everyone else's views I can accept that this is their opinions and they are entitled to them,if we where all exactly the same and of the same views, plus bred exactly the same dog's,style.type and temperament there would be absolutely no need for dog shows.go with your own gut.
  6. In this particular case then, sounds like the trailer being advertised, should in fact not been advertised as suitable for a dog trailer,as for carting the dog's in the car(yes I have been know to do it when only carting one or two),but this too, unless you have all the right harness restraints for the dog's,this can and is also extremely dangerous, not only to the animals but also the occupants of the car, there is an amcap testing video out there, which demostrated the dangers of carting animals, cargo and loose children and goods in a vehicle and boy the results make you think about carrying your dog;s in a car, even in a wagon with a supposedly approved cargo barrier, you would be horrified when you see what a approved cargo barrier can do to a dog in the event of an accident.
  7. Just happened across this thread, those who go out and spend thousands on a purpose built dog trailer are mislead to a false sense of security,I have seen many purpose built dog trailers which are in fact death traps for your dogs,To----- trailers come to mind,I've seen two of these involved in accidents, believe me they fare much worse than a few home made trailers I see, they are built for one purpose by a company,to make profit for the manufacturers. Yes I do have a dog trailer and no it did not come from a well known dog trailer manufacturer, but survivorbility of my dog's in this one would out rate any purpose built trailer from a suppodely recognized trailer manufacturer of dog trailers,I have a friend who recently went to the expense of getting new 4 berth trailer from a Victorian company,I certainly wouldn't put my dog's in it nd the time they had to wait for it to be built and tome the quality for the amount they paid is a joke. Absolutely nothing wrong with a home made trailer or an older one,as long as the base is sound and person doing the repairs and or modifications Knows what their doing, just as safe as a purpose built trailer by a company who deals in specialized trailers for dog's,those who think other wise are either naive or simply thick.
  8. little black bush flies are the greatest problem here,we use Bushmans, most days it only has to be applied once,on a really bad day sometimes twice. I better tell the marchies up this way they don't like yellow, I wear extremely bright yellow singles,so I can be seen but they still bite me. Rick
