  1. Howdy, I live in southern side of Adelaide and looking to change vet. New vet must endorse and administer 3 yearly vaccination for c3 as well as nasal vaccine for kennel cough. A bonus would be they also endorse a RAW/BARF DIET. I'm sick of vets making me feel guilty about feeding RAW. within 20 Min of sheidow park a must. I know I'm not asking for much! Any recommendations appreciated. Cheers
  2. Have any of the Aussie dobe kennels produced dogs that are being used as service dogs in any capacity (police, SAR, security), Monika? Just curious. I know that Vonhellas, Vonliston also own/operate security companies and pretty sure they utilise some of their dogs for patrol purposes. Not 100% though. These kennels as well as Von Forrell and Vonchienloup all import full security/working lines from Europe with the goal to improve working ability in Australia. Serious lines such as Briskas, Mooreiche, Weyermuhle, Vom Ferrenberg just to name a few. They don't just look for SCH/IPO titles either. I remember Tony of Von Liston telling me some time ago that security lines are different to IPO lines in working ability?? If these old working lines are being imported and bred from, i can't see why the breed can't be successful on the field and in service work.
  3. I guess the key factor is the meat v bone content of the mince. You don't want to feed just meat. Vital nutrients are in the bone. Lenards pet mince is simply chicken carcasses minced. Have used their mince for 2 years now with no issues.
  4. Yeah and she is asking $2500 for a desexed training pet from current working litter. A bit pricey in my opinion compared with $1500-2000 from other breeders. Not to say she isn't a good breeder.
  5. Thanks for the input Jeff, I was an ADSC member in 2010 and actively trained my young Dobe before she was tragically taken by unexpected onset of HGE. But i will ask around at EDSC also.
  6. Wondered how long it would take for comments to pop up comparing Dobes to Mals and Shepherds! ;) I don't have service work requirements, just want a reliable protector should a situation arise, a sound family companion and dabble in dog sport (Sch). And i prefer the Euro working line look versus pure show lines. And yes, i want a Dobe to perform all of this. So if there are any positive stories out there, please share your experience. Surely there are some working Dobe breeders deserving of good publicity.
  7. Hi all Dobie lovers, Thought i'd start a thread to begin gathering info on the working line dobe breeders in Australia. I will be using this feedback to help make my decision on who i buy from in the future. Hopefully many other forum users benefit from it also. Appologies in advance if this topic has been thrashed in times gone by. What i'd like to hear is what breeders people have heard about or had dealings with, what their dogs are like (health, size, temperament etc), does the breeder have a good/bad reputation, and any other info a prospective puppy buyer wants to know. I'm pretty well familiar with the current breeders out there but don't know about all of them. Here are most of them but feel free to mention others. Von Liston Von Forrell Von Roth Schutzdobe Von Hellas Vonchienloup Aeon Delaneys Valley Gem Vondeckelman Seareach Belafir I'm hoping many of you get on board with helpfull input, pics etc. Cheers Doberwatch
  8. i have found that Lenards pricing varies greatly from each store as they are a franchise. So far (for those around Hallet Cove, Flagstaff Hill etc) the store at The Hub is by far the cheapest for chicken frames and you just need to call a day or so in advance for bulk quantities. Second bet is the Hallet Cove store in Foodland or Marion.
  9. Nekhbet, You are obviously thinking of another breeder, the kennel i dealt with is solely a Dobe breeder. Anyway, as much as i'd love to name and bag this breeder and warn other potential buyers, i've chosen not to for the time being. It's pretty hard to get info through another forum or people in person without naming the kennel. My thoughts of this breeder are far from nice and i don't want to offend anyone who may know him or have had a good experience in the past.
  10. thanks for the feedback, much appreciated, i'm not on speaking terms with the breeder due to other issues i had from day 1, these matters still in hands of Dogs Vic. I'm a member of Adelaide Sportdog Club and was training my girl there. She had a low immune system from a young pup, and according to my vet and also the skin specialist who treated her Demodetic mites, low immune systems are a major factor in a dog not being able to control the mite numbers. I just wonder if her immmune system never really recovered fully. Given i'm not speaking to the breeder, are there other ways i can source health history within her pedigree?
  11. Hi there, I recently lost my beloved Doberman bitch at only 18mths old. It was a sudden onset on what the vet thought to be Viral Hemmographic Gastroenteritis. She seemed to be healthy less than 24hrs prior. She had a surpressed immune system at a very young age which i believe contributed to a Demodetic mite problem which required a lenghty course of Ivermectin. I'm left wondering if her immune system never really returned to "normal" and therfore had some influence on her fighting this virus? From what i have heard from several vets, the Dobe is one breed known for immune system problems. I will at some stage in the future endevour to buy another Dobe, hopefully healthy from the outset. What i would like to know is if there are various contributing factors that influence the strength/weakness of a dogs immune system? Genetics//food/environment etc? Are there any Dobe breeders paying particular attention to this problem? I paid good money for my bitch from a reputable working line breeder, and for her life to end so suddenly and at a young age has just left my heart torn. It was so unexpected. I want to gather as much info as possible before deciding on the next breeder. I will not return to same breeder. Look forward to feedback.
  12. Any idea on what types of bones Pet Cafe has and approximate prices? its been a while since been there, but everything from rawhide bones in various sizes/forms, to lamb flabs, roo bones, etc. Quite extensive range inc accessories so best to pay them a visit or call. Cheers
  13. ADELAIDE SA BARF (see barfsa.com.au) for stockists of BARF patties Raw meats and bones - Pet Cafe, Port Rd Woodville (enter through BP servo) - Rural Pet Meats, shop 10-11, 47-69 South Rd, O'Halloran Hill 8322 5365 - Lenards (various outlets) call outlets for stock and pricing because it varies greatly. I have used stores at Hilton and more recently Hallett Cove Foodland. Fresh Chicken carcasses are 99c/Kg at these stores. Some stores also do fresh carcass mince quite cheap. Cheers
