  1. I suppose it is too early to tell as they are only 2 1/2 weeks old.
  2. What makes you think they are show quality?
  3. This comment is for swayd You do get personal dont you.Saying- You obviously did not learn enough if you can't decide between main and limited. I also think limited i was just asking what others thought as it is my breeder that is giving me hard time
  4. Find yourself a new mentor. Not everything in a litter is of exceptional quality. You obviously did not learn enough if you can't decide between main and limited.
  5. Yes that is what I think exactly.I have asked all the new owners why they want the puppy and they all said as pets not interested in breeding or showing. These puppies would be show quality but if the owners are not interested why pay money for nothing.
  6. Because they aren't going to be bred? That is what limited is for. The dogs can still be show quality, but if they aren't going to be shown and/or bred, there is no reason for them to be on mains. If, at a later stage, the dog turns out to be the best specimen ever etc and you/they want to breed it (with a prefix etc) then you can change it to mains later on.
  7. You have all said exactly what i am thinking of doing. My breeder feels very strongly that i should do the main. She feels the reason why a puppy would put it on the limited was in case there was something wrong. I suppose i was lucky that she did do the main as i did breed, but i have gone from knowing nothing about breeding to learning as much as i could for 2 years.
  8. I am having so much trouble making this decision, have to decide now if i an going to put Jodie's pedigreed puppies on the main or limited register with Dogs Victoria. The main is only for breeding and showing. The limited is still a full pedigree All of Jodie's puppies are sold now and all of the new owners have wanted the puppy for a pet only. It is about $10 more for the main. Please tell me what to do and why.
  9. I think there is different standard between breeders who show to breeders who do obedience. What do you think? I reason i am asking you is because the Labrador people who do showing are giving me a hard time on my girls weight. My breeder is saying that my girl is too thin and that if i breed with her i will trouble with breeding because of her weight. The last weight i have for her is 28.8kg.She was 32.9 and i was told my vets ,vet nurses, dog school people that she lose weight so I took off 4 kg and now everybody is telling me she look fantastic including DR Chris Brown from Bondi Vet channel 10 and couple of .Vet nurses too I entered in a show and the Judge likes them heavy too I have tried to find out what the breed average in Labradors weight with no success The Labrador club does not know I have asked Dogs Victoria and told to ask the Labrador club. In America the breed average is 55-70 pounds so in kg she is in the middle of that range. I have tried to get England 's breed average bet they did not reply
  10. My lab weighed 32.9 kg I was told to get some weight off by everyone so i did she now weighs 28.4Now every one thinks she look great except for Labrador people that think she is too thin I also plan to breed with her next year What do you think?

  13. I have checking out Premium foods as I want to Change my Labrador's diet. Please let me know which one you like best out of California Natural made by Natura- sold in Pets Paradise. they say they have no grains or by products. They have this one in Light. Turkey Turkey is the clean combination of flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts or whole carcasses of turkey or a combination of thereof - exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, and entrails. Turkey is an excellent source of highly digestible protein. Natura uses high-quality turkey in many of our formulations. Chicken Chicken is the clean combination of flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts or whole carcasses of chicken - exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, and entrails. Chicken is an excellent source of protein. Chicken Meal Chicken meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from a combination of clean flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts of whole carcasses of chicken -- exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, or entrails. Natura uses high-quality chicken meal in many of our foods as an excellent source of protein. Turkey Meal Turkey meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from a combination of clean flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone derived from the parts of whole carcasses of turkey--exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, or entrails. Turkey meal is an excellent source of protein in commercial pet foods. This ingredient is very digestible and very palatable. Natura uses this ingredient in combination with fresh chicken, fresh turkey and chicken meal in some of our dog food formulas. Peas Green peas are a variable annual leguminous Eurasian vine that is cultivated for its rounded smooth or wrinkled edible seeds. Green peas are a fresh vegetable source of protein and contain a good source of vitamin A. Natura uses high-quality peas in some of our treats. Pea Fiber Pea fiber is derived from cleaned and processed pea hulls. Pea fiber is a good source of both insoluble and soluble fiber that helps support normal bowel health. Natural Flavors Natural flavors are flavor ingredients that do not contain synthetic or artificial components. In the Natura products that include "natural flavor" in the formula, the exact composition is proprietary. However, it is always made from high quality all natural ingredients, consistent with Natura's nutritional philosophy. Pumpkin Pumpkin is a rich source of alpha-carotene and beta-carotene, fiber, vitamins C and E, potassium, magnesium, and pantothenic acid. Tomatoes Tomatoes are the edible berry of the tomato plant of the nightshade family. Herring Oil (naturally preserved with mixed Tocopherols) Herring oil is the oil extracted from whole herring. Herring oil provides a rich source of Omega 3 fatty acids. Because the herring that Natura uses is of such high quality, the herring oil helps produce healthy skin and lustrous coats. Apples A member of the rose family, the apple has a compartmented core and is thus classified as a pome fruit. Apples are an excellent source of dietary fiber. About 81% of the fiber is soluble; most of it is of a type called pectin. Apples provide both soluble and insoluble fiber, some vitamin C and beta carotene, and potassium and boron. Natura uses this nutritious fruit in its whole form to obtain all of its wholesome nutrients. Carrots Carrots are the roots of the carrot plant, and a member of the parsley family. Innova dog and cat foods contain whole fresh carrots. Potassium Chloride A chemical compound, KCl, a colorless or white, cubic, crystalline compound that closely resembles common salt (sodium chloride). It is soluble in water, alcohol, and alkalies. Potassium plays various roles in metabolism and body functions. It assists in the regulation of the acid-base balance and water balance in the blood and the body tissue. It assists in protein synthesis from amino acids and in carbohydrate metabolism. Cottage Cheese Cottage cheese is the result of separating milk or cream into curds and whey. The curds are drained and pressed to form the soft, white, spoonable cheese. Cottage cheese is an excellent source of calcium, phosphorus, protein and vitamins. Natura uses high-quality cottage cheese, straight from its retail container. The cottage cheese has only trace amounts of lactose and because of its limited inclusion in the formula, the ultimate amount of lactose in the finished product is insignificant and would not be in sufficient supply to cause an intolerance problem. Dried Chicory Root Dried Chicory Root is the dried, non-roasted root Cichorium intybus L., used as a source of inulin, as soluble, fermentable fiber. It shall contain no less than 50% inulin and no more than 13% moisture. Chicory Root is a thick-rooted blue-flowered European perennial composite herb widely grown for its roots and as a salad plant. Commonly known as a soluble fiber, the inulin derived from the Chicory Root is a fructooligosaccharide added to help maintain digestive tract health and function. Eggs Eggs are the whole of the reproductive body produced by hens. Eggs are an excellent source of protein, with naturally occurring complex combinations of amino acids. Natura uses only whole eggs in our products. Alfalfa Sprouts Alfalfa sprouts are a member of the legume family. Alfalfa sprouts are an excellent source of key nutrients, including vitamin C, iron, magnesium and manganese. Natura uses fresh, high-quality alfalfa sprouts to add these important nutrients to our foods. Minerals Minerals are inorganic substances essential for a host of vital processes within the body. AAFCO regulates minimum standard quantities of minerals in levels that pets need to survive. All pet food manufacturers supplement their products with minerals. Beyond meeting these minimum requirements, all Natura products contain a complete vitamin and mineral supplement program that helps pets to thrive, not just survive. The minerals Natura uses are chelated, providing three to ten times greater assimilation than common minerals. Included in our foods are some of the following vitamins and minerals: Ascorbic Acid, Beta Carotene, Biotin, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Iodate, Choline Chloride, Cobalt Carbonate, Cobalt Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Dicalcium Pantothenate, dl-Methionine, Folic Acid, Iron Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Niacin, Potassium Chloride, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin C Supplement (Sodium Ascorbate), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement (Alpha Tocopherol), Zinc Proteinate Natura adds these important vitamins and minerals, in proper balance to its foods to ensure that your pet gets all the necessary nutrients for life and good health every day. L-Carnitine Carnitine, or L-carnitine, is a vitamin-like compound made in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine. It is found in animal-based, not plant-based, sources of protein. L-carnitine has been used to help with fat metabolism. Vitamins Vitamins are organic compounds that function as parts of enzyme systems essential for the transmission of energy and the regulation of metabolisms of the body. AAFCO regulates minimum standard quantities of vitamins in levels that pets need to survive. All pet food manufacturers supplement their products with vitamins. Beyond meeting these minimum requirements, all Natura products contain a complete vitamin and mineral supplement program that helps pets to thrive, not just survive. Natura challenged this tradition, and developed unique manufacturing processes to create the first-ever grain free, low carbohydrate dry pet food. Removing grains and dropping carbs leads to many benefits for our beloved four-legged friends. The protein in EVO is derived from premium quality meats that are highly digestible, highly palatable and provide maximum nutrient absorption. Fresh meats provide vital nutrients like amino acids (such as lysine and taurine), essential minerals, and other key building blocks that encourage strong bones and muscles. EVO Weight Management Dry Dog Food is grain free. By removing ALL grain from the diet, EVO minimizes starch or carbohydrate intake while maximizing the concentration of protein. In fact, EVO provides high-quality protein at a level that is among the highest available anywhere. In addition, EVO also contains a source of viable, naturally occurring microorganisms and has both linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid), and omega-3 fatty acids. Taurine Taurine is an essential amino acid required by cats. Meat and poultry are naturally high in taurine, so Natura foods contain high levels of this important nutrient. Taurine is also added to our cat foods to ensure cats get enough of this essential amino acid. Cats vs Dogs: While dogs can synthesize taurine in their systems, cats cannot and must have additional amounts added to their diet for proper health. Recent university research has suggested, however, that like cats, some breeds of dogs may benefit from Taurine in the diet. While California Natural has always contained ample Taurine from natural sources such as lamb meal, we have decided to supplement Taurine to ensure that all puppies receive full nutritional benefit from our products. 16. For many months my black Labrador Jodie aged (17 mths) was in a wonderful routine. I would feed her evening meal at 6 -7 pm say goodnight close the curtains and door and that was it she would sleep the whole night through. Just in the last 3 days she has woken up after 4 hours at 10 pm Can anyone tell why the sudden change? This routine has been in place for 17months except when she was in season and she stayed inside for 3 weeks. It has been nearly 6 months since her season.
  17. thanks for your comments and who said i could not afford to feed my dog properly and the pups this is why i am asking so i can feed my dog the best> i think i might use what i have got and then make some changes staying away from supermarket meat although i must say that i had a GOLDEN Labrador WHEN I WAS A CHILD AND ALL SHE HAS WAS A SMALL TIN OF TUCKER Box per day and she lived to 163/4 years of age 16 months ago i lost my beautiful collie he was 1 month short of 14 and she also had supermarket food
  18. Dear Joanne Yes i am planning to become a registered breeder. My Jodie is now 16 months old.She has had her hips and elbow scored and she is under the breed average. I belong to the Labrador club and Dogs VIctoria I will not breed her before the age of 2 year old. She has had one season so far I am trying to learn everything about breeding. There is so much to learn.I talk to every one i met and u went to the royal Melbourne show last year just to talk to breeders. She goes to 2 dog schools for obedience. There have been quite a lot of people who have been very negative on breeding especially the USA forum even last Saturday i was told very abruptly DO NOT BREED YOUR DOG from the man in charge of one of the dog schools It wouldn't just be me he would tell every one not to breed. Everyone who has bread before has had to start somewhere also had started somewhere Any positive ideas are welcome
  19. I think that is a bit of an unfair generalisation on vets - I am sure they can overlook breed when they are assessing the body weight of dogs. A well bred labrador is a heavily set dog with a barrel shaped ribcage (well sprung ribs - helps with buoyancy). This is not the same thing as being overweight. There are a lot of labradors out there who are overweight due to their owners indulging their love of food. If you are unsure about your lab then ask your vet. It is not possible to tell by hearing what her weight is. Her diet includes an incredibly high amount of grains and there's no way I'd see Pedigree dry food as a healthy option for a dog. It is so high in grains it makes them poo excessively. Dogs are not meant to eat large amounts of wheat/rice/corn that they fill those foods up with. In fact they aren't meant to eat any at all. If you want to get your dogs weight down then a raw diet is an easy way to do that. Dear Black Labrador Sounds like my black Labrador might me slightly overweight so i want to get her to loose some kilos before it too bad. She is 16months old and has not been spayed as i am planning to breed So I want to make some changes. What food and quantities would you suggest? I did try her on Advance large breed dog dry food only about 9 months ago and i always thought she was very hungry They had a special day to buy from Pet stock so i bought a big bag to try it out I have heard of kangaroo meat and carrot Hope to hear from you Diane Yep - you're right - it's good to get on top of it ASAP. If you look up "BARF" diets online there is heaps of information. It is the generally accepted term for "Bones And Raw Food" diet. You wouldn't have to do a full raw diet but certainly it sounds like she needs to cut down on all the processed stuff. Kangaroo Meat and carrot might be seen as a low fat diet for overweight dogs but it's not a balanced diet. Dogs digest meat best when it's still together with the bone, rather than meat on its own. The quantities are very individual to the dog and you need to keep assessing her every week to make sure she's in good condition. I feed almost exclusively raw to my labs and I have a pointer who gets three times the amount of bones that they get but he is so underweight that his hipbones just poke through (which I hate). So I feed him up on puppy kibble and other high fat processed foods. If I fed him the same amount that I feed the labs he would die from starvation. He costs me a bloody fortune that dog. Good luck with your breeding endeavours - sounds like you are still in contact with the breeder which is good. Do you have a kennel name picked out yet? No not yet.She only 16 months old i plan to do that after she turns 2. she has had the hips and elbow testing is is under the breed average for that.WE are with Dogs Victoria and the Labrador Club.Do you have a Labrador?
  20. I dont know how to put pictures on the forum i will have to find out how to do it. Hopefully i will learn soon Diane(Jodielass)
