  1. Oh I love this bit! Making out that YOU are in the wrong and feel free to use their T&C.. I don't think your going to get this resolved, I'd be changing your wording and be done with it. When I started my website, I obtained permission from all the companies I bought from to use their wording and images, not only from a copyrite point of view but just general curtiousy. It must be very frustrating for you to be compared to someone like that but unless your going to spend a lot of money I'd be changing my website so it doesn't look like you have any association with them..
  2. Urgh the dreaded digging! I have 3 Greyhounds and 2 of them dig and one is 10 years old the other is 5 so don't think yours will grow out of it Mine seem to dig most when it's hot and they want a cool place to sleep but they also dig after their mad zoomies around the yard, they get a lot of exercise and have heaps of toys so it's not a boredom thing. We've tried and still try to put poo in the holes and cover them up, doesn't work though or they move their digging some place else so we end up with a yard full of dirt where the grass should be, the only thing we have found that works is to lay chicken wire or the plastic kind over the dirt and peg it really well in place so it doesn't hurt their paws, we use it on holes in the lawn too and the lawn ends up growing over it and can't see the mesh anymore.
  3. Although I do recommend Studio Noah because their shots are fantastic but very expensive and we got them half price, when I was setting up my website I asked them if I could use two of the photo's that I had purchased on my site, despite 3 emails and 3 phone calls noone got back to me, I was quite happy for them to say no but I was hoping to get some sort of a response, plus I was going to purchase a gift voucher from them for a grand opening prize draw so they missed out! That's very disappointing about the book especially when it cost that much, they should have fixed it for goodwill if nothing else!
  4. I can vouch for Studio Noah but yes they are pretty expensive... hey Jazzy, my sister got those Advance photos done too for her OES... did Advance ever contact you or use the shots of your greys? No we never heard back from them, I've checked their website but they haven't appeared yet, they did use a photo in their dental campaign but that was of Kerry at GAP's grey. They have allowed GAP to use some of the photo's for the calendar. Did your sis get any of the photo's? We got 50% off and they were about $90/each.
  5. We had a photo shoot done of our Greys by Studio Noah (East Perth but they come to you or anywhere really) it was on behalf of Advance Pet Food and the shots are absolutely stunning, I can't rate them highly enough but they are expensive, and we didn't have to pay for the shoot (thank god!), they took 52 photos of our dogs, we ended up buying 5 but could have bought them all they were that good - www.studionoah.com.au Probably the largest pet store in Canning Vale is Better Pets and Garden on Nicholson Road, Canning Vale (if your heading down South street, turn left into Nicholson Road and it is quite a way down at the other end of Nicholson Road near the Canning Vale Police Station, Dogs are welcome to go inside. There is a City Farmers in Canning Vale but a bit hard to explain where it is and they are doing roadworks outside and lots of detours plus it's not as good at BP&G.
  6. I hope your happy with him, he's excellent and certainly knows his stuff.. all the Greyhound people love him! Did you ever find the collar that you were after? Julie
  7. Hi there, Greyhounds as Pets use Garth Jennings (Amrex Behaviour) who is excellent, we've had foster sessions with him before, he operates out of Perth & Brisbane - his email is [email protected], his link is http://www.pupi.com.au/amrex-behaviour.asp. He does all dogs not just Greyhounds. Julie
  8. He has his own website?? hasn't been updated for a while, love how they are taking donations - aren't we already donating thru our taxes.. poor neighbours - you gotta feel for them, I bet the council is really p*ssed now. I heard that when he's in court he's got a roster system of people who are going to stay up there until he get's back, he's so paranoid COG are going to cut it down when he leaves it. Have to laugh, one of the adverts on his website is for a handgun safe! wft?
  9. I worked there for 10 years but haven't eaten there for a while, for seafood head to the fishing boat harbour - Cicerello's has good selection of seafood. Forget Asian it's all Italian there, anywhere on cappacino strip (High Street) is good, very casual, good value, GREAT coffee! Have fun!
  10. So City of Gosnells are good for something, then? Yes apparently they are very good at getting rid of trees Only if noone's sitting in it :D too funny! Unfortunately the tree man is fine and now has proof his tree is strong and won't drop it's branches - despite an earlier bullshit claim by him that he was struck by lightening. Nothing's going to bring him down now! Actually the tree's on the road were on Bannister Road, Canning Vale so that's City of Canning so no City of Gosnells are still shit! lol
  11. Geez, everyone has been affected one way or another. I was at my mum's with the kids celebrating my nephew's birthday, my OH was at Cannington greyhounds about to trial dogs (thank god they hadn't gotten them out of the trailer) and took 2 hrs to get to Thornlie which usually only takes 15 mins, our streets were flooded and he had to abandon the car and wade thru knee deep water to get home to our 3 greys who were all outside and absolutely hate storms, can only imagine what they went thru, they were soaked thru and very very quiet. I was expecting them to have jumped the fence or gotten out some how, thank god our fence didn't fall down like next doors did as we back onto a park then onto a very busy road. My mum's place in Parkwood which is in a valley had rain streaming thru all the windows and was flooding thru the back door, kids were all crying thinking they were going to die, my car parked on the verge was pelted by hail and not a scratch on it! Her power only came on this arvo and then went off again at 6, no phone at all during this time. Driving home afterwards was very scary with two young kids in the car, no street or traffic lights, having to go so slow because of fallen trees across the roads, cars abandoned. Good work by the councils though, I went out early next morning and tree's had been removed from the road etc..
  12. Hey Belgian Blue, I sell them on my website www.dogkingdom.com.au - they are medium size fit 13 to 18", I buy them for Greyhounds but there's a size chart on there. Julie
  13. Yes there's a vet training hospital at Swan tafe in Bentley, they have GAP signs up everywhere outside.. It's one of the places that GAP send's the foster dogs to be their vet work done i.e. microchipping, steralisation, teeth cleaning and c5 vac
  14. GAP WA have a couple of greys at various training vets, i.e. Vet at Swan Tafe in Bentley they stay for a term and then they get fostered/adopted out and a new lot go in.. In WA there is basically GAP and Greyhound Angels down Mandurah way, they are pretty much the only one's who deal with adoptions of Greys, they very rarely turn up at shelters here..
  15. Your so welcome! Once you've had a Grey you'll never look back - but I am very very biased!! GAP organise monthly walks where all the dogs (& owners) get together in various locations around Perth and basically just go for a walk, you'll get to meet other owners and chat about the dogs, we had the first one in Mandurah last month and it was a great day out. They also hold Greyhound playgroups every Sunday depending on where you live where again the Greys can get together and go for a run in an enclosed environment, they have a great time but there is a heat policy where its not held if the temp is due to be 33 or over, so this summer there hasn't been too many of them! sick of this heat! You'll get a lot of support from GAP if you ever need it and forums like this are fantastic if you ever want to know anything beware though, they sleep ALL the time! Julie
  16. Hi there, I'm in Perth also and I have 2 Greys which both live and sleep outside under the patio, I always put coats (fleece lined) on them at night and if it's really cold during the day and I also cover them over with a blanket or a sheet. They do feel the cold & heat more than other dogs, they have no fat on them so basically if your hot or cold outside then your dog will be too. My boys beds are full of old doona's and sheets to keep them warm! I guess you'll be going thru GAP? They are fantastic to deal with and will make sure your Grey is cat and other dog tested, I will be selling winter coats for Greys thru www.dogkingdom.com.au closer to winter, I also sell all of the Greyhounds as Pets merchandise. Good luck with it. Julie
  17. That's what I thought, why else would they have wings? I've just bought some Greyhound t-shirts from Cafepress, they have such an awesome range but beware they are American sizes so make sure you go at least 1 size up from what you normally are, I'm usually a medium but had to buy a XL and it fits perfect.
  18. We have this in WA and have done so for some time, any registered Grey has this form as part of their registration and weight card. I've copied and pasted the relevant questions from the 2 page form, there is also a form the Vet must fill in if the Grey has been or has to be euthanased Retired as Pet - Owner to Keep........................................................ .................... (Attach Registration Certificate) (Owner’s name/s) Retired as Pet – Trainer to Keep........................................................ .................. (Attach Registration Certificate) (Trainer’s name) Retired as Pet – Third Party to Keep – (Please advise below of the Third Party’s Name, Address and Contact Details) (Attach Registration Certificate) Euthanased by a Veterinary Surgeon (Attach Vet Certificate and Registration Certificate) Deceased – Due to an injury / illness / accident or similar. (Please provide a written explanation in the space below and attach the Registration Certificate) Admitted to the WAGRA “Greyhounds As Pets” Programme (Attach Registration Certificate) Retired to Stud – For breeding purposes as a Brood Bitch / Stud Dog and is residing at ................................................. Retired to Stud – Owner retaining for breeding purposes as a Brood Bitch / Stud Dog and is residing at (Please circle whichever applicable) Greyhound Racing Rule 106(3) states: At the time that a greyhound retires as a racing or breeding greyhound, and if directed by the Controlling Body, the registered owner of the greyhound shall be responsible for that greyhound and shall advise the Controlling Body if the greyhound is to be retired as a pet, or in an approved adoption program, or has been euthanased by a Veterinary Surgeon. There are a number of rules which I haven't included and I guess the inception of these forms was to stop Grey's being dumped or euthanased for no good reason. At least there is some degree of control from the authorities.
  19. Oh I'm soooo with you! Isn't it great.. roll on Autumn I say, even though the dogs are at the back door pretending to pant and whining to come in..
  20. Did anyone see in the local Gosnell's paper about the off lead dog that attacked a horse at Kwinana beach plus the young girl that was riding it.. There was 2 dogs but only 1 attacked, the stupid dog owner just rounded them up and took off, didn't bother to make sure the horse or girl was ok - both had to have stitches. Why do dog owners think the laws never apply to them, what an ar*ehole.. Sorry to go back to this thread but I knew we were talking about it some time back...
  21. Hi I am from Esperance myself, but there are some who are from Bunbury or near by who will pop in soon I am sure. I used to live in Esperance, in Castletown.. although that was a very very long time ago 1981 I think, we emigrated from England and went straight to Esperance, I think my dad was about to hang himself when he saw the place - being so isolated, he never got over it! but we kids absolutely love it, I still have great memories of riding our bikes down to the beach and it would be perfect like glass and gorgeous blue. A beautiful part of the world. I've always wanted to go back but I also remember the 8 hour boring drive to get there - will have to save up and fly.
  22. Tell you the truth I don't know much about show greyhounds, I've only ever seen one and that was at the Royal Show but I know that only greyhounds bred for racing (they have special breeding papers for racing) can be registered to race and once they have finished they have to be deregistered, a form for the industry has to be filled out if a racing greyhound has to be euthanised or put in the greyhounds as pets program, the racing industry is very strict which is great. I guess though 99% of the Greyhounds are bred for racing so I'm assuming they would be the same lines but just not registered for racing. They don't have to be registered for racing until they have gone thru the 'breaking in' stage (around 18mths) which is just their training in how to jump from the boxes, chasing the lure, running around the track etc, alot of the 'pups' don't actually make it thru being not quick enough, can't be bothered or see the point in chasing a stupid squeeky rabbit or they just want to play instead of racing around the track, I don't see why any of these dogs couldn't become a show dog.
  23. Maybe try posting at the other Uni's? There's always people at ECU looking for a place. Or offer to host an International student? Good idea Thornliegirl .. ECU is in Joondalup but public transport is pretty good heading that way. How would you go about hosting an international student? Is there a special company that deals with it? Mirawee, I have my details with Curtin Uni When do students start going back to Uni??? Anyone heading to the Scarbs dog beach Sunday morning? Hi BB, Did a quick google search and found this forum for students looking for accommodation http://www.studyconnect.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30 Good luck
  24. Hi kinad, welcome to the thread. I'm not from Bunbury but looovee that part of WA. What breed do you have? I'm a Greyhound nut myself
  25. ABSOLUTELY!!! The best dogs we have ever had the pleasure of being owned by.. lol Victoria and Qld have been successful in changing the law but only for those retired that have gone thru the Greyhound as Pets (GAP) program and passed, they have to wear a green collar so rangers etc know they have passed but sadly WA are still petitioning the government for it to be put on the parliament agenda, the GAP girls have done some fantastic work over the years with the local councils and state government but there are always more important items for the government to deal with first, they got sooo close before the elections and because of the change of government they basically had to start again. The law doesn't recognise retired greyhounds v's racing greyhounds, they are all treated just the same. The police commissioner adopted one not so long ago which is great for the campaign as he's pushing for the law to be changed too. They are the most gentle dogs, 99% of them wouldn't hurt a fly and the other 1% wouldn't pass GAP anyway if they are in anyway aggressive plus it would be way too much effort for them to get off the couch! lol
