  1. I would say no as well. What if problems developed in the relationships within the house between the dogs/cats.What would happen? It is hard enough to find a sitter as it is [even though I am happy to pay a reasonable amount] and to have the added risk of issues possibly developing would make it more of a worry for me that problems may occur and I am not there to resolve them.I like to go on holidays and be able to think that at least the pets are being well cared for in my absence. I would be paying a house sitter to give attention to my pets, and for her to add her own dog into the equation would mean that the sitters first priority would be most likely be to her own dog, and I would want it to be to my pets.
  2. I checked up about these and two specilaists told me they were of no use in cataracts. One stated they were quakery. The other said they were for another condidition that did not involve surgery anyway. But not for cataracts, although they are marketed that way. Common sense tells me that if they were really efective, they would be used more, especially if an operation was not possible. I had the cataract surgery done on my dog, and was told the earlier the surgery is done the better outcome. My dog's cataracts were very hard to remove and hindered her recovery, causing inflammation in the eye because of that. I do know someone who uses the drops though, and swears they work, but did admit she has to use them many times a day, and knows that a lot of people using them have no success. They are expensive to buy too.Her vet supplies them to her. Some people mistake any cloudiness in the eyes for cataracts.
  3. It sounds hopeful, but sadly not successful on all dogs in the trial. The dog of a friend of mine died, the treatment never worked on him. Good that the treatment will be available in vet clinics later this year. This moved quickly.Sometimes all these trials take years to get onto the market.
  4. Seems rather silly to me. I have sent my email to my local rep. I love Cafe Bones and that off leash park, and often sit at a table for a drink and a chat with friends, and allow my dogs off leash. Let's hope sanity prevails.
  5. Thankyou for your reply and information. Did that teatment actually improve your dog's sight? It has been said to me that the drops I have been told about will actually improve the eye sight which is being lost to cataracts.
  6. Do any Dolers have any experience with eye drops for cataracts in dogs? Positive or negative. I am interested in, and would be appreciative of ,any information. I know there is surgery but I am thinking of the application of these drops in an older dog where an operation may not be possible or recommended.
  7. Thankyou for sharing this story with us. It is wonderful hear about . I must admit I cannot open up a lot of the threads on here with graphic stories and photos. I know these awful things happen in the real world, but find these sorts of stories stay in my mind and haunt me. I am not just burying my head in the sand,it is a bit of mental and emotional preservation. I can't do anything about them and would just be tormenting myself reading the dreadful things man and dog sometimes do to each other.
  8. Looks like a dog at Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, they have named Gabba, a male on the FOUND DOGS page, no microchip, not desexed. Let's hope he is a lucky one that either goes home or is rehomed.
  9. What about the unwanted chicks that are thrown into a crusher...ALIVE. RSPCA NSW are aware and are supposedly going to discuss it with other states. The law permits them to be either gassed or crushed. These are chick produced by the producers, that are over the number of chicks they can house adequately. So are unwanted. It has been suggested that some breeders of chickens then mix the crushed chicks together with chickens that die from other causes together with grain and feed that mix back to their other chickens. People are eating chickens that have been fed this mix. Thank goodness I am a vegetarian.
  10. There are a wide range of camera and audio euqipment available, and not that expensive. You will need to have it all out of their reach, and once they become aware of it, may attempt to damage it. As long as it isnt directed into their yard, where they could complain about privacy and is along your fence line you shouldnt have any issues. You do realy need audio as well ,as evidence. I would worry about a bait being thrown over the fence.People like this often dont stop at anything to get their own back. You need only watch current affair type programmes.
  11. I have similar concerns and thoughts. I think it is wrong to "brand" a breed in this way.
  12. $35 an hour??? That is excellent money for relatively unskilled work. The basic wage is well below that, around $20 isn't it??
  13. Do they still sell those?I havent seen them for years and forgot about them. Thankyou for reminding me.I will try and get one or else use the surface spray.
  14. CJ'S Kennels at Bobs Farm, near Nelson Bay. VERY reasonably priced, and very caring.Set on acreage in rural setting. The dogs get two walks a day.Everything included in the daily/weekly fee, no extra costs. You can take your own food if you wish. All I know who have used them, speak highly of them and make return visits
  15. Worst year in my area for illegal "fireworks. The council had a display which should have kept everyone happy, but the yobbos have to get the thrill of lighting their own. They went on all night.
