  1. Oops I keep forgetting to say, her name is Boots. Our daughters choice of name since she's a Dora the Explorer fan.
  2. Back.... It was a reaction to the fleas, apparently its a rare condition but for some reason her immune system didn't kick in properly and got confused and started attacking her body instead. She has a fever so we have to give her a cool bath, she's had antibiotics and steroids and we've got some advantage for the fleas. She should start feeling better tomorrow and be back to her normal self within the week. Thanks all for the responses and suggestions and the offers of help. I'll come back and post some photo's when she's feeling better!
  3. Thanks again everyone, and thank you for the kind offers. I discussed it with my partner yesterday and he wasn't too keen on the idea of letting strangers help us out, it caused a bit of an argument which is why I didn't come back yesterday. I really do appreciate the offers I should say I did call AEC they said it was hard to tell if it was an emergency, and I wasn't sure how I would get there (i hadn't seen the post about offering a lift at that time though) Anyway, he's taken her over to the vet and is there right now. We had an appointment at 1pm but got them to see us earlier. I kept her with me last night and she was wimpering most of the night, and is slightly worse than she was yesterday. I'll let you know how it went as soon as he gets back. My thoughts are that is an allergic reaction of some kind as the rash has spread to inside her ears as well. I don't know if the lameness is related but it is worse today, she can hardly walk at all.
  4. The AEC Frankston is open now and until 9am tomorrow morning. But they require money upfront, which I don't have until tomorrow morning. She's no worse than what she was yesterday, its just the other eye is starting to look puffy and weepy. I've worked out the finances and will pay the full vet bill tomorrow, if there was a vet open today that would let me pay tomorrow I'd take her right now. Jass, if you are happy and willing to take your little pup down to Frankston AEC now, (if you cannot find anywhere else open) and you are willing to pay the sorts of fees that they may charge (keeping in mind that we have no idea exactly what is wrong with the pup at this stage), I will call my credit card details through to them for you and pay upfront, if you can pay me back tomorrow. I have spent thousamds there, so I am a known clint of theirs. Please let me know if you want to take up my offer and we can exchange details via PM. I'll call them and see if they think its an emergency, thank you for the offer. I'll let you know.
  5. Thanks, I'll ask about starting an account at our vet tomorrow, with the two cats needed their vaccs this year it will be handy. Some decent flea control will have to wait until we've controlled the current problem. I've called every vet in the area that I can physically get to, all closed

  7. Thanks good advice, I'll grab some tea shortly. I've been using a head lice comb on her. And I'll dilute her milk.
  8. Exelpet spot on control, used it once last week its meant to last for 4 weeks but did absolutely nothing. Could that be causing an allergic reaction? I'm aware of the costs of having a dog, but unfortunately I hadn't planned for unexpected costs that have arisen in the last week (for example several shifts were taken off my partner in preference of other employees, leaving us short for the fortnight). Does my current financial situation reflect on how good or bad a pet owner I am?
  9. No I don't know what Wandering Jew looks like. We've had other unexpected costs come up, and because of the holidays our pay dates have been messed up. I did spend money on flea control that hasn't worked. No one expects their pet to get sick, and unfortunately it has happened at a bad time for us.
  10. Its an exelpet wash but its not a flea treatment, I'm hesitant to use it again though as this may be causing the reaction. The fleas don't seem to be as bad today as she's barely been outside, which leads me to believe they're coming from outside. I'll wash and change her bedding today too. Will do Aziah, its a 2 second walk, since we live so close you'd think they'd be a bit more flexible with payment arrangements :fingerscrossed: Thanks everyone for your replies.
  11. No same diet. I don't like giving her milk either but it seems to be the only thing she wants to drink, I'll get some puppy milk tomorrow. She has little welts like bites on her belly as well. Could very well be ants. But the rash around the nose and mouth is also scabby and she keeps rubbing it. I'll do everything I can for her.
  12. She is confined on her little doggy beg and has been for the last few days. I've bought the exelpet flea stuff for her but it does nothing, I'll dose her again after I bath her later. We can't figure out if she had fleas when we got her or if we have an infestation, she had them on her within half an hour of getting here. We can't see any inside on the carpet so we think they are coming from the ground outside, we have two cats as well that are mostly outdoors, they have them as well but no where near as bad as the puppy. I'm going to get some frontline plus next week for them all. We're in the Frankston area, but every vet in public transport distance is closed. At the moment it looks like we'll have to wait until first thing in the morning. We'll try the vet across the road first and see if they'll let us pay it off, then the surrounding vets, and if none of them will help I'll take her into the Lort Smith. The shaking doesn't seem to be as bad now, I think its nervousness, and a bit of hiccups. Our youngest daughter is being kept well away from her, we think she's the cause of the limping. She's usually really good but lately has been a little horror (our daughter that is).
  13. I've tried every vet in the area and they are all closed until tomorrow! The emergency center requires a 50% deposit so thats not an option either until tomorrow...
  14. Sorry...the limping and everthing started about 3 days ago and has gotten worse. At first it was one eyes that was swollen and puffy and today the other one has started getting swollen. We've changed her plastic bowls to metal ones, we thought maybe it is an allergic reaction to something. I keep trying the Lort Smith but just can't get through, and I can't find any other vets in the area that I can get to...still looking.
  15. We don't know our neighbours and literally have no one that can help with money or a lift my partners family are all in New Zealand and I don't talk to mine. I'm trying to call the Lort Smith, but they're engaged. I've been giving her baths every day. Everything is closed today because of the public holiday. I can get enough money together for a train ticket, I'll keep trying to Lort Smith. I just hope they don't want any cash up front, because I have nothing til tomorrow. Darn xmas and bank holidays!!
