  1. Not sticking up for anyone here

But with SoCares are they set up a bit differently? So if your group becomes and associate member they are then allowed to use

the 16d? Not saying that all associates are good but I believe that is how it operates. So is allowed.

As for everyone else. I am sure the list is extensive about who allows whom to use their clause.

I had a conversation once with a animal holding facility in regards to groups using their 16d and handing dogs over to an unauthorised group. The reply I got was they don't care where the group with the 16d sends the animals. It is none of their business. I find that quite poor

  2. how old was the dog you had to deal with.

    Was it having seizures

    did you euthanize straight away

This is for a shunt not CL.

She was about 11 months old when she was diagnosed.

Yes she had seizures. She sort of lay on her side and twitched. It wasn't super violent. When she got up she was walking very strangely. She also did strange things like rub her head along walls and stand still like in a trance and flick her tongue in and out.

No I didn't euthanize. Her seizures have been controlled with a combination of medicine and food.

Tests to rule out a shunt will be back today.

I also have contact with Sydney uni vet hospital and the professor who wrote the paper on CL

We obviously don't want pup to be in pain or stress if it is CL. He is about 5mths old and besides a few "weird" things he is happy boy, but obviously something that will get worse over time if it is CL

  3. Has anyone in rescue or even a breeder dealt with ceroid lipofuscinosis in a dog?

Mainly a puppy who has just started seizing and shows signs of it

ruling out a liver shunt today but vet is pretty certain it isn't a shunt and

pup shows a lot of characteristics listed for ceroid lipofuscinosis

Vet also consulting with an animal seizure specialist today

I believe in particular this. He is a young ACD

  4. Any adoption from any rescue should come with a copy of the desex certificate. Unless the dog

was already registered as a desexed dog (which of course we all know u need a desex cert to do that)

Regardless of what has happened. It needs to be dealt with.

As stated there are different options and roads to take, but I guess that is between the buyer and the rescue.

Unless another group is willing to help out in this situation.

Did he adopt from a site that stated the dog was desexed?

I guess without all the information in regards to how the dog came into care to how it was advertised and

rehomed it is hard to find the reason behind why it is rehomed without confirmation of desexing.

There is no law saying a dog/cat has to be desexed if rehomed via a rescue. For most though it is something

they feel strongly about ethically. So we assume everyone does it.

  5. Someone has said (a comment on one of the photos) the AWL went out there and she had cleaned everything up before they got there. Don't know why it was spread all over FB before the relevant authorities were alerted.

ETA: Just going by what someone posted on one of the photos, no idea if it's true or not, which is the problem when you get second/third hand info. Still don't think it's wise to spread photos all over social media before the authorities are informed and have a chance to get out there.

Caz sadly there are some gronks on FB who think they know things but don't. AWL were alerted and I was in direct contact with both the inspectors but

as RSPCA had already attended the property a couple of days earlier they aren't able to also attend. So at no stage did AWL attend and the clean up happened after RSPCA had been there.

I had asked the original poster and several ppl to remove the pictures of FB as you are correct if the person involved was alerted to the posts before authorities had been they have every chance to clean up the mess and therefore a waste of an Inspector visit. Also because even if pictures show something to be horrid we don't know why it is like it is. Even if we don't like what we see we can't turn vigilante. What happens with the situation is for the authorities to deal with

There are no laws sadly in regards to the size of a cage you keep a fox in. When adopting from fox rescue they do have their own specifications but there is nothing in writing. RSPCA and Fox rescue have communicated in regards to the fox but I am not sure if anything will come of it.

  6. ohhhh If only it was last week When I was looking I did call you a few times and left a message I thought you were avoiding me

MMMMMMM My kitty is low in regards to vet work maybe I could offer to foster care them? I have no fosters here till march .Sid was desexed yesterday and his vaccinations are upto date .

Iknow Im a drive away but the offer is there .Ive got a thing for little dogs at the moment .Anyway you know me my yard my family my pets my obsessive photo taking and hubbys video work we are always happy to have newbies :D

You can have them. All yours.

I deleted about 14 voicemail msg's last week.

  7. I am also concerned about the rise in rescue "cowboys" over the past couple of years. Shmoo put out an excellent fostering manual a while back - how good would it be if someone experienced in rescue put together a rescue manual which helped newbies realise the dangers of rescuing everything, control of parvo and other diseases when taking dogs from a pound, temp. testing, how to vet a foster carer (and not let the first person who puts their hand up foster without investigation.) There are many more issues to cover as well.

When I first came to DOL, I used to offer money for dogs in the "urgent rescues" section as my way of helping. Along the way I met some very ethical and good rescue people, but now I wouldn't be game to give money away to unknowns. The problems of money going to who knows where is a big problem unfortunately and I think Pound Rounds and some others have a big case to answer in that. So hard for the good rescues these days.

This is a good post. I am not a fan of "cowboys" either. I think these days people decide they can just start a rescue with 0 experience.

I don't doubt alot of the passion to rescue animals, but if you have worked under an ethical group who has i's dotted and t's crossed and

all paperwork from ABN, 16d, CFN in working order. Committee's etc, then I think you learn the right way to go about things. Sadly if you just

decide to start up a group with none of the above, you open yourself up to alot of criticism from those who have tried and tested alot of things.

  8. My brother in law has a staffy cross which went suddenly blind at age 4/5, she has SARDS (i think).

It took a few months for her to adjust, house was completely safe proofed and nothing is ever moved. She has now learnt the layout of the house and where things are. She navigates well and is even playing "fetch" again (sort of).

Was the dog born blind or developed blindness?

Yet to be assessed by the vet as it is being surrendered to a group.

Our underestanding is blind from birth, but yet to be established.

  9. 2) We are very excited about the roll out of nationwide program we lovingly call Inmates for Inmates (ex-poundie Assistance Dog Program) supported by training in Correctional Facilities. Began as an experimental program, this program is another first of its kind. The connection between inmates and abandoned pets was unprecedented and this has led, not only to an expansion of the program, but also a formal study on the benefits of poundies for rehabilitation of inmates – and all the while the rehabilitation and training of the pooch!

I would be interested to know which facilities they intend on sinking their teeth into.

there are already programs up and running and why would a govt correctional facility not

use RSPCA or AWL to advance the programs they currently already have in use?

  10. RSPCA dose do yard check or they used too n RSPCA dosnt home dogs known to be aggressive i dont see how they say they have the same approach. I am not a great fan of RSPCA at times but they are far better than pound rounds any day.

Yes they did one when we adopted our german shepherd and AWL have volunteers there constantly walking dogs etc and

    they have behaviourists.

  11. Hopefully GAP Vic can help these people. Even though not their problem

It is about making sure people dont lose faith in rescue organisation's which sadly is happening

not only with PR but with cowboy fly by the seat of your pants I think I know better rescue

    groups popping up everywhere

What happened to people joining ethical established groups and learning the "right" way to do things

before going out and starting another ethical group

They all just seem to want to make a big name for themselves and collect accolades and money

  12. Since this has been brought up Ill add my bit here :) I only just by chance come across the name today and another called loved ones rescue but then I came across so many other things that had me wondering.

All of a sudden there seems to be a rise in new rescue groups GREAT if above board and really helping --but then Ive come across a large number of other ads all saying we take unwanted litters of puppies ,then another saying they will take excess puppies all breeds sizes then another saying they BUY all unwanted puppies.someone also stating they were animal lovers with experience some wanted all unwanted puppies mmmmmmmmm why would someone honestly want a load of puppies ? Im a animal lover too but we all know you can"t own them all

This has me concerned its so hard at times dealing with what we have and to rehome at the upmost best possible but with ads like these I have to wonder

Roz, loved ones is the vet nurses from Woodstock Vets.

  13. Fairford Rd Vet Clinic is also the Canterbury pound... they may have some cats or dogs you could chip for them...

If you supply your own chips, some places are more amenable to helping you out.

Belmore Vet clinic on Kingsgrove Rd are also a pound.

    T.

you can't buy microchips until you have your implanters number and if people have them

I have no idea where they obtain them from

  14. Hi Everyone

Myself along with another rescue friend have done our microchippng course.

We have to have all our paperwork about to TAFE by 16th August to be marked and sent to the DLG

in order for us to get our implanters license.

The course wasnt cheap and it is quite hard to get the minimal amount of numbers in our allocated

    time.

I require 3 more either cats or dogs and they have to be done under vet supervision

    My friend requires 13more.

Is there anyone with any cat or dog litters or any adult dogs or cats that are due to be microchipped and

happy to let us do them? Also you vet would have to agree to this also.

The only way to get experience is for us to chip - we are both Western Sydney based but would be happy

to drive within an hour or so of home to get them done

  15. If he was a "toy" dog would this discussion even be happening?

Is he a big dog - yes

Is he a strong dog - i would imagine so

but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve the same access to "treatment"

by a trained and professional behaviourist if a rescue is willing to give him

a chance as we would give a chihuahua, malt, Italian greyhound, cattle dog or Amstaff

He may have issues and he may not come good, but he may just surprise everyone and

end up a bloody awesome family pet.

I would just like to think that if someone does give him a chance that they are equipped

with the right people to work with him.

  16. Not sure it is a good idea. Feel free to ring the person I know on the animal companion committee, she has known council for

longer then anyone who has attended the meetings. If she says it may piss them off, then for me that would be enough

to put a stop to it happening. Why even jeapordise a possible victory?

I don't know the person with the t shirt idea - that's just what I've been told. It was a FB thing, so don't know if it's gone ahead or not.

If u tell me on FB where it was I will go in and say something.

  17. I've heard along the grapevine (so who knows if truth or not) that people intend wearing some kind of t-shirt to the meeting?

Not sure if is a dig at the mayor shirt etc

The last I heard, it would be more of a 'plug for desexing' kind of t shirt - not a 'bag the mayor' kind of t shirt.
