  1. Well I have discovered one of Honey's hidden talents.

She is a skilled ratter! :)

Just took her to the park in the next street for a quick game of fetch before it started raining.

A few minutes of playing, she stops dead, her ears go up, then she bolts to something I can't see.

Next thing i know, a couple of shakes of her head and there's a dead rat! :)

I easily called her back & she had no interest in it after that.

I was shocked! (& grossed out, she had some guts on her :thanks: !)

I know she has a bit of drive, but so far thats only shown in her love of chasing & retrieving.

I had no idea my sweet little cuddler had it in her!!!! :)

A reminder that dogs will be dogs- I guess I won't have to worry about rats in our house now.

Does anyone know, are all breeds good at ratting? I would not have guessed a GR would be, prior to this.

As far as I know the Jack russel terrier is superior in that department, but who would have thought a golden retriever

  2. I am just curious as to a newspaper ad I seen in the paper over the weekend advertising rednose x staghound puppies.

I did a little research, and concluded that a red nose was another name for a pitbull? Is this correct?

How long have pitbulls been outlawed for???

  3. I feel like my dogs need to be around other dogs more. They do have three dogs they regularly hang out woth, but recently two of those moved away.

When we go for a walk most of the time we don't see a single other dog (apart maybe from offlead dogs that aren't friendly).

I don't feel that they need to be playing with other dogs, just hanging out a bit more with other dogs.

So I thought maybe I could advertise to see if anyone in my suburb would be interested in meeting up for a weekly walk.

But I can see that this could create its own problems, with people who maybe don't very friendly dogs, or don't control their dogs properly which could cause real trouble.

On the other hand maybe it would all work out well. Dogs would get the opportunity to be around other dogs; maybe it would encourage some owners to walk their dogs.

Actually I can imagine advertising and getting no responses at all.

Anyway i just wanted to see what other people think of this idea, whether you think its likely to be a disaster, or whether there are ways I can make it work?

    I think its worth a try :)

  4. We have a 7 month old Lappie who has had a number of health problems, and is now suspected of having IBD. I'm wondering if there's anyone else out there who has a dog with IBD? It would be great to chat to others in the same situation and trade tips/advice.

    Good morning,

<y dog has had IBD in the past but I have him successfully under control now and have not had a flare up in over a year.

I started with an elimination diet of chicken and rice, and gradually added a vegie every fortnight or so. He did well on this. I have also used Royal Canin sensitivity control.

These days he has a ciuple of chicken necks every day and black hawk holistic which agrees with him really well.

I think the key is to not change the diet at all and find what agrees with him and feed that only every day without varying it at all and changing things.

    Good luck :)

  5. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel fits the bill perfectly! Not active at all, does need a brush every week though but doesn't malt much and just a cuddly loving dog who wants to be with you 24/7.

Same with my French Bulldog, although some are more active, mine is not really active. She also doesn't shed and snuggles into my lap.

They both dont have a 'small dog' attitude, but I would say that has more to do with socialising your dog from when it is young.

Completely agreed. A cav is a must!!!

    No bias at all!!!

  6. Unfortunately our dog managed to get himself absolutely filthy today - it was almost impressive really... But anyway, we rushed him home and threw him straight into the shower (him and the bf actually lol) and 10mins later he was looking his beautiful self again. As soon as he was done though, he went absolutely ballistic and took off at full speed around the house. It was quite a sight to behold - typically we wash him away from home because he's really too large to fit in the shower so I haven't seen him do this in our home since he was about 5 months old.

Dan was asking me why he seems to go so crazy, and I just had no idea but I remember that all of my dogs have been the same. Does anyone know why they do it?

My dog does the same. I love seeing him rip through the house. Makes me laugh! Speaking of which, bath time due again....

  7. Same here, but I seem to have excessive tear stains, and was wondering if I could take it back to once a day, have emailed Robin Stanley to confirm this first though....

    I go to Robin too.

He is great! Its a long drive for me but worth every cent, and he posts it t me when I run out to save me making the trip down.

    Great service

  8. My last dog was on cortisone long term and never went near other dog's poo so I would not get too worried.

But yes, they will drink more and as a result - urinate more.

Also its not uncommon to see them sleep more and also pant more.

Yes He is sleeping a lot more for sure!

    Thanks for the advice

  9. From reading this thread...it seems that there are alot of JRT x's out there that like to hump. Maybe it is a breed thing.

 sounds like a JRT tendancy!

My cav used to do it to his toys as a pup, but he grew out of it!

  10. Black and tan for me...although Ive got a weakness for blenheim too...

    Molly and Sam are beautiful!!!!

Those are my two favourite colours as well

  11. Just keep in mind that although it increases appetite, they do not need more food! Always have plenty of water available.

Absolutely!!!! No extra food or treats, and definately always plenty of fresh water for the little fella

  12. Good morning,

I was wondering if anybody else has a dog that has been prescribed tacrolimus for dry eye?

If so How do you find it and how many times per day do you use it?

    Thanks

I use Tacrolimus for Benson who has sever dry eye. In his case, it has not really improved his numbers for the dry eye,and the count comes in very low, but in his case,it doesn't seem to bother him. He seems to cope with the low count. The only drawback is that it is frightfully expensive, but his eye, given his age, and according to the eye specialistist healthy.

Yeah Ill agree with the tear count as my dog had better tear readings with the optimmune but it did not agree with him.

Another positive thing is that it is much cheaper than the optimmune as well.

Do you use it once or twice a day?
