  1. Found out the other day that a long-lived family dog who I am rather fond of has been diagnosed with lymphoma :(

Wondering from people's experiences how much longer he may have, should I go rushing off to say my goodbyes...

Not entirely sure what will happen yet but I believe the decision not to go for chemo has been made, due to the age of the dog (we think around 14 - he was a pound pooch) and the stress it would cause him...

I know nothing at all about the big C, really, so any advice I can pass on would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks folks.

  2. Erny, I took it as the "people or animals" being beyond the boundary... but I could be wrong... I do hope it means as you say that if the dog is somehow getting past or through the fence the owner can be fined (and so they should be), but if it's simply the dog having a go at something that's on the other side ('beyond') the fence, a lot of people are going to be in trouble >_<

  3. I read it as they can take action if the dog is showing any manner of "aggression" towards anything on the other side of the fence, regardless of if any part of the dog is protruding over or through the fence.

So if I lived in Wyndham I would be fined for the malinut running up and down the fence woofing his little head off everytime someone walks past while he is outside >_<

  4. c25k week 3 day 3 done, yay... though I cheated a bit this run, as I went down the road from home and had to stop at traffic lights in the middle of my last run :( Plus it's all up-hill on the way back home so I was totally buggered :( I walked an extra 10mins or so and then ran the last little bit down-hill to home. Be interesting to see how I go with week 4... I think i might find a nice flat sports field to do laps of!

Good to see there are still people out and about during winter, too, well done guys! :)

  5. Must admit I'm surprised that the dog seemed to be so intent on "going" the offenders once apprehended. It was obvious the handler couldn't do anything but hold the dog. Don't they train an "offswitch" into them? I thought there was a 'Hold" command tht could be given so that the handler could render assistant or have his hands freed up if necessary. Perhaps that is a higher level of training that he hasn't attained yet?

I think Jeff Jones hit it on the head!

The handler appeared to be standing quite calmly to me, with more than adequate control over his dog, wasn't struggling to keep a grip on him. He (handler) would have had no idea if the two were armed, or as Jeff pointed out, there were others about also involved in the incident. With two people there it would have been perfectly adequate for the officer to give the second person instructions for helping their friend until ambos arrived, without being involved and vulnerable himself, and risk having his dog react to what it percieves as a threat if the handler is accidentally touched for example, and then end up with a completely un-necessary bite :/

  6. Kelly is a Malinois :)

Searched on 9's website, can't find it there... damn shows from other countries, LOL

I was rather worried about the second GSD they showed (Carly? can't remember proplerly now) when her handler had her off-lead!

I'm not sure if the cocker was pure, he didn't look quite pure to me, but then I'm not overly familiar with the breed... either way they were all loving their jobs and I definitely enjoyed watching :)

  7. *pants* c25k week 3 day 1 done, didn't think I was going to get through the last run but we made it! Every time I slow to a walk the malinut gives me a dirty look LOL he wants to keep jogging (an easy trot for him).

I decided to have an extra day or so break as my knees have been aching, and then I found out I'm going to be out of a job very soon through no fault of my own >_< so that put a big downer on things and the last thing I felt like doing was excercise :(

As for friends on walks we haven't really been walking much when not at work, and we've been doing our c25k runs doing laps of the work site, so don't encounter any one else along the way... The malinut isn't allowed play time with others yet though, he is just tooooo excited to play, so until he can learn to calm down and be gentle we just keep to ourselves when in public anyway...

  8. Does anyone know if the episode is online anywhere?

I'd like to know too, I can't find it on 7's website :/

My stupid useless antenna decided it wasn't going to play ball tonight and I couldn't get a signal on ch7 and ran out of time to faff about with the stupid thing before I had to leave for training, so I didn't manage to record it as I'd planned :(
